HTC Desire :: Tidy Up Gallery Photos?

Oct 8, 2010

Is there anyway of making the Gallery look a little more tidy? Every photo I have, be it received, downloaded, bluetoothed, or taken. It seems to create several different folders. I can't seem to find a way of merging these folders to make it look neater & some folders cannot be deleted? Are there any apps to help me, or is it one of those annoying Android things?

Android :: With Windows 7 - After Installing And Removing App Etc - How Tidy Is Android

Sep 6, 2010

Having had a Wildfire for several weeks and loving it. Just a question, after installing and removing games, apps etc, a thought came to me.

How tidy is Android? I mean with Windows 7, after installing and removing app etc you are left with rubbish on the system. What does Android do? Does uninstalling an app remove all the bits of the program? Do I have to invest in a program to tidy up? Does such a program exist?

Android :: Market Fail To List All Permissions Granted To Applications

Oct 7, 2010

When installing applications from android market some permissions are not listed to the user, but are granted to the application upon installation, including the notorious "Phone calls" permission. When installing locally through "Package installer" the full set of permissions is listed. That behavior may be observed with many applications one of which is 'net.jimblackler.newswidget' (no offense Jim - I hope it's true there's no bad publicity).

This bug was reported as issue #9365 [0] back in Jun 27, 2010 but has gone so far unnoticed, perhaps because android market is not part of AOSP, which is why I post here. I consider this a serious problem as it is misleading for users and reflects badly on application developers and the whole android echo system. Hopefully this will get the needed attention and treatment, especially after all the recent noise around applications security and privacy breaches.

Motorola Droid 2 :: Running Applications List And Battery Life

Nov 15, 2010

Just got a Droid 2 and I'm tinkering around. I saw the "Running Apps" list and its pretty useful if I say so myself. However is it necessary to go in there and stop apps that I'm not using all the time to save battery life? Do apps still run after their closed, because Facebook was running after use. And when stopping apps my phone tells me that "this can have undesired consequences on the app" which scared me a bit. I haven't even done my first charge yet, but my battery went down about 40% in about 2 and a half hours.

2) What is a good place to see a list of function apps for the Droid, and why is the latest build still 1.6 when other phones already have 2.2? (sorry if that question has been asked before.

Android :: Android Launching An Application Chooser With Appropriate List Of Applications

Aug 16, 2010

Although I have seen several threads and tutorials on this topic, I guess I still have some confusion on how an application can be chosen from a list of applications to display a file.

I have a Activity which has a list view in it. This list view is bound with file paths (so a file browser of sorts). When we click on a specific file type, I need a list of applications that can open that file.

So far this is what I have in the OnItemClick for the list item:

CODE:............

When I run this on my phone, the error is:
No Activity found to handle Intent { act=android.intent.action.VIEW cat=[android.intent.category.DEFAULT] dat=file:///

When I do the same in a file browser application (downloaded from the marketplace), I get two options (QuickOffice and Word to Go), both of which I have installed on my phone.

Could someone guide me as to what else is needed here? Things I have tried besides the above:

Add the following entries to the manifest:

CODE:................
