I want to use Samsung Corby to develop a location-based app. I want to know the things that this phone model can offer and the possible issues that I might encounter with it. It's a cheap phone and is available in our country, that's why I chose it.

I am currently running Evil Eris 3.0 and over clocked with setcpu and it seems to run pretty good. Recently, I have seen messages about Froyo and now an updated Evil Eris 4.0. Can anyone give me a quick run down on the advantages / disadvantages of each ROM? My primary needs are to have the device respond to phone calls quickly and to be able to tether to my laptop when WIFI is not available. However, I do like all the other cool features like sense.

I am on T-Mobile UK and don't want to wait till the end of November to update as I want HD video recording before my baby is born.
I'm currently debating whether I should wait for my carrier (Telus) to provide the Froyo update OTA, or use a downloaded ROM. I'm more or less clear on the advantages/DISadvantages of using a downloaded RUU. I'm less clear on the advantages of waiting for Telus to offer it. I recently got the HTC Desire, and the Telus update could be as late as November. I would really like to install Froyo NOW, because once I start using the phone more and entering contacts and agendas and all of that, I don't want to have to redo all the work I did configuring the phone. Waiting for Telus OTA UPDATE:
* I get the update NOW, and I can get on with my life.
* No risk bricking the phone (biggest thing holding me back!)
* No need to waste an entire SD card, just to keep a backup of the Goldcard image in case of later updates
* I LOSE my 1-year warranty with Telus on the phone if its been hacked (UNLESS I can save version 2.1 and flash it back to that??)
This is my first post so greeting to you all. I bought my Hero a couple of weeks ago and heard about rooting, and was just wondering whether it is worth doing. I've seen some videos and shots of rooted Android devices and some of the customization looks pretty damn awesome, but I was wondering what, in a nutshell, the upsides and downsides of rooting are (e.g will it void my warranty?).

View 6 Replies View RelatedIt turns out that if you are synching Outlook with a server, not all servers can handle Adroid phones. I don't know if an app like Touchdown would fix this, so if you need to synch with a server, check this out. Because I wanted to go with AT&T anyway for tethering reasons (a fairly unique situation), I went with an Iphone and have been quite happy with it, though the jury is still out on the touch keypad. An advantage of the Iphone is that the world has adapted to it. My Ford Escape synch system will not recognize all phones, but does recognize the Iphone, given how popular it is. This also may be an issue for some people, not for others.

I'm currently playing around with 2D graphics in android and have been using a plain old SurfaceView to draw Drawables and Bitmaps to the screen. This has been working alright, but there's a little stutter in the sprite movement, and I'm wondering the feasibility to do a real time (but not terrible fast) game with this.
I know GLSurfaceView exists which uses OpenGL, but I'm curious as to the extent to which this makes a difference. Is a plain SurfaceView hardware accelerated, or do I need to use OpenGL? What type of speed difference could I expect from switching to OpenGL, and how much altering of code would it require to switch (the game logic is all in a separate object that provides an ordered array of drawables to the SurfaceView)?

On that device there were clear reasons to flash ROM's and since the community was ginormous, there was lots of information about the stability of various ROM's. So I'm new to the DroidX and wondering if there are any stable ROM's out that might be worth loading up (for fun and for performance boosts - not necessarily speed). I use my phone as a primary phone for work and home, so it has to be stable.

View 28 Replies View RelatedNow that it looks like the 2.2 SBF is online, how many people who are running leaks are going to upgrade to the 2.2 OTA that supposedly include an updated bootloader/kernel/radio? For those who did already, do you see any differences at all? Moto made some claims that the new one was better (i.e. that switching between wifi and 3g would be more seamless), but have people noticed differences? I guess I held out on upgrading to OTA because of the no SBF and the whole episode of the unlocked bootloader, but now should I consider upgrading? Would I lose any advantages of staying on the old boot loader?

But with android there are different phones, different sizes, So How can i possibly know that my app works, and looks fine on all these devices
2- I don't already own an android but i completed my first application using the simulator. Which android phone do u suggest for testing? I am an AT&T user and i use an iphone. Can i simply insert my sim-card in the new android to be able to test my app on the device?
