I am currently running Evil Eris 3.0 and over clocked with setcpu and it seems to run pretty good. Recently, I have seen messages about Froyo and now an updated Evil Eris 4.0. Can anyone give me a quick run down on the advantages / disadvantages of each ROM? My primary needs are to have the device respond to phone calls quickly and to be able to tether to my laptop when WIFI is not available. However, I do like all the other cool features like sense.

I am on T-Mobile UK and don't want to wait till the end of November to update as I want HD video recording before my baby is born.
I'm currently debating whether I should wait for my carrier (Telus) to provide the Froyo update OTA, or use a downloaded ROM. I'm more or less clear on the advantages/DISadvantages of using a downloaded RUU. I'm less clear on the advantages of waiting for Telus to offer it. I recently got the HTC Desire, and the Telus update could be as late as November. I would really like to install Froyo NOW, because once I start using the phone more and entering contacts and agendas and all of that, I don't want to have to redo all the work I did configuring the phone. Waiting for Telus OTA UPDATE:
* I get the update NOW, and I can get on with my life.
* No risk bricking the phone (biggest thing holding me back!)
* No need to waste an entire SD card, just to keep a backup of the Goldcard image in case of later updates
* I LOSE my 1-year warranty with Telus on the phone if its been hacked (UNLESS I can save version 2.1 and flash it back to that??)
This is my first post so greeting to you all. I bought my Hero a couple of weeks ago and heard about rooting, and was just wondering whether it is worth doing. I've seen some videos and shots of rooted Android devices and some of the customization looks pretty damn awesome, but I was wondering what, in a nutshell, the upsides and downsides of rooting are (e.g will it void my warranty?).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm moving over to Sprint.I'd rather not pay the $10 4G fee (or whatever you want to call that $10 fee), so I'll probably stick with a 3G phone.Is the Hero the best option? What I really need the phone to be able to do is voice calling, text, email, web browsing, etc. I'm not a power user, so I don't think I'd use the full power of the Evo anyway, so that's another reason to stick with the Hero.And if I understand correctly, I'd be eligible for upgrade pricing after 1yr with Sprint.

View 7 Replies View RelatedIt turns out that if you are synching Outlook with a server, not all servers can handle Adroid phones. I don't know if an app like Touchdown would fix this, so if you need to synch with a server, check this out. Because I wanted to go with AT&T anyway for tethering reasons (a fairly unique situation), I went with an Iphone and have been quite happy with it, though the jury is still out on the touch keypad. An advantage of the Iphone is that the world has adapted to it. My Ford Escape synch system will not recognize all phones, but does recognize the Iphone, given how popular it is. This also may be an issue for some people, not for others.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently gotten interested in the Android OS.Everything just seems a whole lot better than the iPhone OS.So right now, I have a 3GS on ATT.I REALLY want to get the Evo 4G.I can sell my iPhone anywhere from $400-$450 because its in MINT condition.So that would cover the early term. fee on ATT and the phone cost at Best Buy/Shack. I have been with an iPhone since late 08 and have had it jailbroken since day 1.I am loving my iPhone, but its getting a bit old and Android seems to provide that "wow" factor and the "new phone" factor with each Update.I am ready to pull the trigger right now and sell this iPhone before the "new" iPhone is announced/released. But that brings me to my next few questions.

It's time for my family to get new phones, and I like the price of Sprint's Everything Data Family plan. I've been playing around with a friend's Hero and I really like what I've seen so far. I do have a few questions about it though.Is the Hero still worth it? I know it's a fairly old phone, so how does it stack up to the newer Android phones on the market? I'm already ruling out the EVO because I just can't get on board with its size. It just seems a bit gaudy for me.I'm too frugal to buy a phone before I'm eligible for an upgrade. And I've read at a few places that the Hero is pretty close to being obsolete (not getting an official 2.2 upgrade). So would it be wise to buy the Hero with a new contract, knowing I'd have to be with it for the next 2 years. I don't know anything about rooting or modifying phones. How does that work? Would rooting and installing custom ROMs delay the phone's obsolescence?I guess my main concern is that I don't want to commit to a phone that may not hold up over the next few years.

1- I recently switched from a PC to a Mac. If I want to switch ROM's or go back to stock, can I do this on a mac? Or do I have to use a Windows pc?
2- I was interested in switching from Fresh 1.1 to Fresh 2.0c, but I'm a bit confused. Do I have to go back to stock, then root and flash 2.0c? Or can I flash it on top of 1.1?

When I use LauncherPro my home screen (and other screens) are not set up the way I currently have them. I spent a lot of time setting my current screens so they are exactly the way I want them. Any way to save that config when switching to LauncherPro? It does seem faster so I want to give it a shot, but I'm dreadig setting everything up again- widgets, apps, etc.

View 49 Replies View RelatedJust had an issue today with the phone after I got off of NYC Maximas.org and went back to the home screen. The phone decided to have a mind of its own and was actually switching between screens itself. Every time I hit the home button it would switch to screen 2 and three and so on and so on. Also when I tried to text right after that I was unable to input text for w.e. reason. After a shut off and turn on of the phone the issue was resolved; "weird". Anyone else having this problem?

So any clue why is that happening? I downloaded many apps from the market, is that the reason? and is there any application that shows the running applications in the background and their CPU and memory usage? And when I open the messaging and scroll through the messages it is way too slow.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm from the UK and currently using an N95 which although I really like is getting a little tired, old and feels slow compared to the newer phones.My contract with Orange is coming up due and they've said I can pick any phone at any price for free so thought I'd switch to android. I'm no stranger to messing with my N95 software so no need to be worried about suggesting a user friendly phone etc or if a phone can be improved by rooting etc. I'm willing to wait if there's anything really nice due in the next month or 2 but I'm basically after the best I can get my hands on especially hardware wise (as I'll have to wait 18 months+ for an upgrade).I've seen there could be new phones being released with 2ghz processors, 1gig ram etc which would allow me to keep up with updates. (I de-branded my n95 so I can use the latest firmware as i really dont like missing out on nice updates) Having a fairly decent camera would be a bonus as I am partial to taking the odd piccy.

My droid is rooted and I have run the 2.1 rom but I switched back to 2.0.1 because of some issues with the rom. I am hoping it is just a matter of swapping out the Nandroid files like I did when I returned to 2.0.1. I am missing the cool features of 2.1!
