View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post so greeting to you all. I bought my Hero a couple of weeks ago and heard about rooting, and was just wondering whether it is worth doing. I've seen some videos and shots of rooted Android devices and some of the customization looks pretty damn awesome, but I was wondering what, in a nutshell, the upsides and downsides of rooting are (e.g will it void my warranty?).
View 9 Replies View Relatedjust wanted to know what is the main reason behind rooting the nexus one? it seems like there's already an app for tethering so rooting is not really needed for that.
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo I currently have an iPhone jailbroken and unlocked on t-mobile.
What do you guys think will be some advantages or disadvantages of getting the EVO and switching to sprint?
It turns out that if you are synching Outlook with a server, not all servers can handle Adroid phones. I don't know if an app like Touchdown would fix this, so if you need to synch with a server, check this out. Because I wanted to go with AT&T anyway for tethering reasons (a fairly unique situation), I went with an Iphone and have been quite happy with it, though the jury is still out on the touch keypad. An advantage of the Iphone is that the world has adapted to it. My Ford Escape synch system will not recognize all phones, but does recognize the Iphone, given how popular it is. This also may be an issue for some people, not for others.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a Linux user, so the idea of rooting the phone is one of the many reasons I picked up this phone. However, I've been reading the forums and searching around, and have yet to find anything about rooting *from* Linux. Ubuntu and Fedora find the Hero beautifully; I've had better response mounting this than some portable hds I own. But has anyone successfully tried rooting any Android phone from a Linux OS? I'd really rather not install Windows just to do this. I imagine Wine might help, but there's got to be a better way to access Linux-to-Linux than using Windows.

Also, are there any advantages to storing your contacts on your Phone and the SIM Card? Currently I have them stored on Google and the Phone.
I have rooted my phone just to delete some of the sprint crap apps. Now my question is since I did not flash a custom ROM on to my device will I be able to update the phone when Sprint releases the OTA Update or will I have to use the RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.56.651.2_signed_release.exe to put my phone back to factory stock. (Also can I just do a hard reset to accomplish the same thing).
The Apps I removed:
Sprint Nascar
Stocks
Amazon Mp3
Wonder if any experts here can help me. I have just received a new HTC Hero (T Mobile UK G2 Touch). Unfortunately it appears to be running a somewhat crippled version of the languages. My wife is Italian and frequently texts in Italian but unfortunately there is no Italian language support, only English, Dutch and Czech which seems strange. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to download or unlock Italian without rooting the phone? Would predictive text work and would I only be able to change the text language and not the whole phone language?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I've tried and tried again using RA and other linux based programs (GParted) to get my 8GB card to partition for apps2sd. Everything always runs smoothly and shows that the card is partitioned correctly. But then upon reboot the SD card shows full fat32 memory (6.9 GB). No matter what I do, after reboot, the partitions never happen. When I used GParted, and then loaded the SD card on the phone it always says that the SD card is damaged and I need to reformat. I've done that and rerun everything to no avail. Someone please tell me this issue is that the SD card is corrupted and I should give up. Because I've followed everything to a T as far as partitioning. With that I'll say that I had no problems rooting my phone, flashing ROM's/RA's, etc, and have been able to do whatever I want as far as new things to load. I've finally decided after all this time to do apps2sd, and I literally screwed around for 5+ hrs today, trying to partition the SD card properly. Any thoughts?
View 8 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to remove some of the Sprint Bloatware without rooting the phone. I know some of those apps Sprint probably sold their soul to have on the phone but some of it is just trash. I'm not looking to clear up memory or any performance improvements. I just want to do some house cleaning of junk that I will NEVER use. I was hoping for maybe an unlock code or something simpler then the root/rom way to go. I'm very satisfied with the way things are working now but some of that garbage has got to go. I know junk is standard bill of fare on new computers but you can go through and systematically delete the garbage but I'm a little offended to have something that I bought and paid for and can't even clear out the junk and personalize it to my taste.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am debating between the Hero and the Moment. I have a few ?'s. What is the purpose of rooting, what features do you not have IF you choose not to root and does rooting void your warranty on the phone?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSorry if this is explained somewhere else but I couldn't find it.
The instantroot.apk keeps failing on my Hero yet the only people who are supposed to have problems with this are T-Mobile users, correct?
I've got plently of space on my SD card (over a gig), my build number is 2.73.771.73, and I've got an unlocked orange(soon to be o2) sim in it.
I really want to see what I can get from rooting my phone.
Can you move your apps to a memory card without rooting the phone?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know if I root my HTC Hero on Sprint and then load 2.2 if it will have any problems. Like can the hardware on the Hero run 2.2? I know most of the devices that are going to run 2.2 have a 1GHZ processor and a lot more internal memory than my Hero does. I am only thinking about doing this because 2.1 on Hero is so glitchy, but I love the 2.1 apps. Any help?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got a Telus version of the HTC Hero. Coming from an iPhone, I've been through some of the 'root/jailbreak' scenes, so most things are familiar. However, making the transition to the Anrdoid OS, there's many things I'm not understanding. Currently the Hero is running 1.5 (can that be updated). I tried running Instant Root and it failed. So I tried the Gold Card method (Eh, not too bad) and no luck with that. I'm not sure where to start, since the guides mentioned in the stickies for root don't work for me. I'm just a confused newbie with the Android customization scene.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've tried a couple methods today, manual as well as the Fresh Kitchen 1054, and I'm getting stuck with both. I'd probably prefer the manual method so let's troubleshoot that I get through most the steps found here (and I believe I've followed them exactly, to the letter): How-To Root a Sprint Hero But when I enter the code for #6: /data/local /asroot2 /system/bin/sh My system returns: [1] killed /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh It simply won't continue past that point. Ideas please?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Evil Eris 3.0 and over clocked with setcpu and it seems to run pretty good. Recently, I have seen messages about Froyo and now an updated Evil Eris 4.0. Can anyone give me a quick run down on the advantages / disadvantages of each ROM? My primary needs are to have the device respond to phone calls quickly and to be able to tether to my laptop when WIFI is not available. However, I do like all the other cool features like sense.

I've rooted my Incredible, and I keep seeing roms that have Sense disabled. Can anyone point out the advantages of getting rid of Sense, and also what you'd lose if you got rid of it? (I really don't know much about Sense, I just know it was a talking point before the phone came out
View 7 Replies View RelatedI root all my phones for various reasons, and have flashed ROM's before on the original Droid. On that device there were clear reasons to flash ROM's and since the community was ginormous, there was lots of information about the stability of various ROM's. So I'm new to the DroidX and wondering if there are any stable ROM's out that might be worth loading up (for fun and for performance boosts - not necessarily speed). I use my phone as a primary phone for work and home, so it has to be stable.
