I am currently running Evil Eris 3.0 and over clocked with setcpu and it seems to run pretty good. Recently, I have seen messages about Froyo and now an updated Evil Eris 4.0. Can anyone give me a quick run down on the advantages / disadvantages of each ROM? My primary needs are to have the device respond to phone calls quickly and to be able to tether to my laptop when WIFI is not available. However, I do like all the other cool features like sense.

I've rooted my Incredible, and I keep seeing roms that have Sense disabled. Can anyone point out the advantages of getting rid of Sense, and also what you'd lose if you got rid of it? (I really don't know much about Sense, I just know it was a talking point before the phone came out

I'm a very newly rooted user (tonight)...all is well so far! I'm looking to take the plunge into a custom rom without getting in over my head the first time!
What are the major differences between xtrROM and xtrSENSE?
From what I understand, these are two very popular roms for n00bs to start with.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

I was thinking about debranding so I can get the update as soon as it's released. So I was wondering if some of you would be so kind as to answer some questions for me.First of all, does anybody have a link for an X10i debrand guide:
What are the advantages of debranding
what are the disadvantages of debranding
Are there any known problems after debranding
Can it be undone?
I am on T-Mobile UK and don't want to wait till the end of November to update as I want HD video recording before my baby is born.

I'm currently debating whether I should wait for my carrier (Telus) to provide the Froyo update OTA, or use a downloaded ROM. I'm more or less clear on the advantages/DISadvantages of using a downloaded RUU. I'm less clear on the advantages of waiting for Telus to offer it. I recently got the HTC Desire, and the Telus update could be as late as November. I would really like to install Froyo NOW, because once I start using the phone more and entering contacts and agendas and all of that, I don't want to have to redo all the work I did configuring the phone. Waiting for Telus OTA UPDATE:
* I get the update NOW, and I can get on with my life.
* No risk bricking the phone (biggest thing holding me back!)
* No need to waste an entire SD card, just to keep a backup of the Goldcard image in case of later updates
* I LOSE my 1-year warranty with Telus on the phone if its been hacked (UNLESS I can save version 2.1 and flash it back to that??)

This is my first post so greeting to you all. I bought my Hero a couple of weeks ago and heard about rooting, and was just wondering whether it is worth doing. I've seen some videos and shots of rooted Android devices and some of the customization looks pretty damn awesome, but I was wondering what, in a nutshell, the upsides and downsides of rooting are (e.g will it void my warranty?).

I want to use Samsung Corby to develop a location-based app. I want to know the things that this phone model can offer and the possible issues that I might encounter with it. It's a cheap phone and is available in our country, that's why I chose it.

I used the the Lagfix app to "root" my captivate. so i'm wondering what's the difference between doing it this way vs. doing it through a computer or some other way? Also, how can install non-market apps now? Well I know how, but what's the easiest way to do it? is the an app market I can get?

I don't mean to sound thick, but I will anyway. What is rooting? I get that it gives you root acces to the phone. For things like memory management and saving apps to the flash drive. But, what does it entail? Is it replacing the software on the phone? Will I lose all my contacts and currently installed apps etc?

I read that a new OTA update is coming for the EVO. When a new update comes from Sprint, should I wait for a rooted version of it? If so, how do I apply it? Through recovery? Sorry if these have been asked before, but search results were kind of wonky and all over the place.

I've decided to try Rooting my phone following the UNIVERSAL Eris Root guide for Dummies up at the top of the forum. However, my phone is on 2.1. Can I still root it, or do I need to find a way to go back down to 1.5, and if so, how do I do that?

I just *finally* got my Evo in the mail yesterday. My mom opened it, got it ported and activated by the time I got home from work. She also updated it (as per suggestion from Sprint). I know Unprovoked doesn't work and I haven't seen anything yet that provides a soft root. My primary goal at the moment is being able to use Titanium Backup (paid for a license!). I will probably flash up to Fresh 0.5.3 after I can backup and root. Are there any solutions that work with the new update? Does the SimpleRoot 0.1 work?

Just got an EVO a week or so ago, am planning on rooting once unrEVOked is updated to work with 3.30. Here's the question: I'm primarily interested in rooting to be able to remove Sprint's bloatware, and maybe try out the tethering. If you have root access, can you just freely delete the programs you don't want or need to the same extent as if they were market apps, or do I need to install a custom ROM to get rid of the bloatware? Pardon what is probably a very simple question, but I've seen some conflicting info on this point, and wanted to be sure I know what I'm getting myself into.

i have just gotten my HTC EVO 4G 5 gays ago and I AM LOVING IT !! But, as i was searching all over the internet, the word "Rooting" came up a lot. So i figured , "hey ! why not try it?!" I wanna try and use UnrEVOked but I know nothing about Rooting and such.
1) What will rooting do to my phone?
2) Will it void my warranty?
3) Is it only temporary?
4) Will it help me save battery life?
5) What are other features of rooting?

I rooted yesterday to a stock rooted 2.2. I couldn't set up my e-mail or facebook until I turned on the 4G connection. I figured it was just overloaded due to all the syncing going on at once.Today I flashed to Fresh 3.1.0.2 and downloaded all my apps at home with the 4G connection. After I left the house I realized that when I don't have the 4G connection, I have no data.I cannot connect to AppBrain, GMail, Google Maps, Google Navigation, Internet, Dolphin Browser. I do have connection to Facebook though which I think is weird.Any suggestions? The site seems to be running slow. I searched for a while and came across this issue with some different phones but no Evo stuff. I'm new to all of this.
