Android :: Turn Off Standard Messaging And Use Chomp?

Jul 29, 2010

I have installed ChompSMS, and it works great. But the standard messaging program is still there, and has all the messages in it as well.

Is there a way for Chomp only to get the messages, and the standard one to stay blank?

Android :: Messaging And Chomp SMS Icon

Sep 6, 2010

I'm using an HTC Evo, running Android 2.2, and I recently downloaded ChompSMS and have it as my default messaging app. I was just curious if anyone knows if there is a way to have the native messaging icon be the icon to open Chomp SMS? Basically I'm being picky and I like the native icon better, but like the Chomp app

Sprint HTC Hero :: Native Messaging / Handcent / Chomp SMS?

Dec 4, 2009

Curious about people's thoughts about these different messaging options. Removing / barring the pre-update issues with the native messaging app on the phone, which one of these do you prefer? I am currently using the native app, seems fine to me, I like that I can link contacts to FB etc. Not necessarily looking for something that plagiarize's the iPhone messenger (cartoon bubbles), but I am always open to something new if it is better than the app preloaded on the phone. If you don't use the native app, is there a widget for Handcent or Chomp (like the native) to make viewing and responding easy?

HTC Incredible :: Chomp Vs Native Messaging App Post Update

Sep 3, 2010

So after this 2.2 update, i have been slowly starting to use the native messaging app again, and i can honestly say it is finally on par with chomp. Minus the customization of notifications and backgrounds and whatnot, all of which i dont really use, i am wondering if i should do away with chomp and go back to the stock app? The only thing i think i would miss about chomp is how i have it set so when i get a text the screen lights up so i can slide down and read it without having to press the lock button up top. Thoughts?

Android :: Turn Off Threaded Messaging And Revert To More Classic Look?

Mar 27, 2010

I have the original T-Mobile G1 and am generally fond of it, actually so fond im on the verge of getting myself the HTC Desire when it hits the stores here. There are however a few things that "bug" me at present.

1: Is it possible to install and use programs directly from the memory card, or does programs still have to be installed to memeory with the newest release of Android OS?

2: Isn't it possible to turn of threaded messsaging and revert to the more classic look?. Either directly through the native client or through a 3rd party text messaging client?

3: And what about saving some of your texts?. Cause you know once in a while you recieve a text thats worth saving, and at present I don't seem to be able to find that option in 'Droid. So is that not supported or does that "just" require 3rd party software.

4: And have they finally fixed the forced google sync?. Where you can ONLY get contacts and stuff to your android device through gmail. Because im honestly a bit concerned with the fact that Google "owns" everything on gmail.

Sprint HTC Hero :: How To Turn Off OEM Default Messaging Program?

Oct 22, 2009

I installed Handcent because of the battery drain issue, and like it a lot, but now I cannot turn off the OEM Messages program. I tried going into the Settings>Applications>Manage Applications to turn it off, and it doesn't work. I also did the "Use Handcent as default SMS" when that box first pops up. I get two different ringtone notifications too. Although I switched the ringer to the same one both through the phone's settings and through Handcent's settings.

Sprint HTC Hero :: How Do I Turn Off Google Messaging / Conversation Notification For Email?

Jun 12, 2010

I have just updated my phone to 2.1. Also I have two email accounts. One Gmail and one dslextreme account. It used to be that when I got email from one or both accounts I would get a little envelope in my notification bar. Dragging that down it would show me the email in the Gmail account and the dslextreme account. But now I have a third notification with the google M in it. If I click it it opens a "conversation" window with the email. I can respond to it and it works just fine. But if I click on the Gmail email I get the usual looking email format. Now the interesting thing is if I ignore the google M and go straight to the google email and deal with the email from there the google M conversation disappears. Thank you for bearing with me through that lengthly explanation but here is my question. How do I turn off this google M conversation? I don't want that third notification nor do I want that style of email delivered. I want to go back to the standard type of email delivery. It's coming to my phone alright but I don't want dual notifications. I remember when I was setting up this new OS that a box came up and I checked this google M not understanding what it was but I have looked through all my settings and can't figure out how to shut it off.

Android :: Handcent And Chomp VS Stock (laggy)

Oct 24, 2010

Stock messaging app has become very laggy with over 3000 messages, some spawning threads of around 800 messages. Also, deleting them, while being an option, shouldn't be necessary. I delete all of my messages at the start of a new billing cycle and that's how it's always been with my smartphones, so none of those suggestions please For those of you who use 3rd party SMS apps, with large amounts of text messages, do you notice any of them being laggy?

Android :: Handcent / Chomp Glitch Fixed?

Aug 12, 2010

I apologize for posting this but I've been looking for an answer to this question for a while. I posted this in someone elses thread but I figured this deserved it's own post since it's pretty much a deal breaker for me. Hopefully someone has the answer for me. Thanks in advance. "I've been looking for a reliable messaging app since I got my incredible, but I always stuck with the stock sms. The reason being is one HUGE glitch scared me away from handcent. the glitch where it would randomly send a text message to the wrong person from your contact list and pretty much pick a random contact to send the sms to. I can't really have that happen since I use my phone as my work phone and personal phone. It would be a VERY bad situation if a text message I was sending my girlfriend was randomly sent to someone from work or a customer. I've seen people posting about this glitch earlier this year but I've never seen anyone confirm whether it not the glitch has been fixed or still exists? It's not something I want to risk. I guess my reason for posting this is I am very curious to find out if that glitch has been fixed. I would LOVE to use hand cent or chomp but I would like some confirmation as to whether or not that glitch is no more. Can anyone confirm this?"

Sprint HTC Hero :: Stock Messaging App Vs. Market Messaging App

Feb 22, 2010

Whats the scoop behind which one is really better? The stock messaging app or aftermarket apps (handcent and chomp). I use Handcent, and lately I have been finding it to be quite laggy and slow, even with cache cleared and all threads deleted. Is the only difference between stock and aftermarket, the fact that you can customize? I would much rather have a plain looking stock app that performs well, then a customizable aftermarket app that is slow. I am just looking for some opinions.
