I started using Handcent's SMS to manage my phone's messages and I really like it. But now I want to disable the standard messaging app that was included with my Evo because I get two notifications, I'd like to just get handcent's SMS. So how do I disable HTC's messaging app so that I can use Handcent's SMS only?

In the Messaging app in 2.2 when I'm in a thread it shows a pic of me and a pic of the other person next to every text sent and received. In the 2.1 app it simply showed my name and the other persons name; no pic of us next to every text. Is there anyway to disable showing the pics in the 2.2 app? Really don't see the need to have a pic next to each text.

Is there a way for Chomp only to get the messages, and the standard one to stay blank?
I have installed Hand cent for handling my SMS Instructions advise turning off default, but cant see how on the Desire? I am quite disappointed with the phone so far as it has too many niggles, the biggest being not able to auto answer calls, which makes it useless with my �200 Parott hands free. Any ideas how to disable or turn off default message handler?

I have installed Handcent SMS installed. I have the Handcent Popup and Notifications set. I have disabled the default messaging app's Notifications and Auto-retrieve. I no longer get notifications from the default but still get a pop up from both Handcent and the default. I still receive both the default app pop up and the Handcent pop up. I never had this problem with my Vibrant. I can't find anyway to stop this and am at a standstill.
Those of you using Hand cent SMS, can you disable the regular htc messaging? When I get a text now I get two tones that I have received a text message one from the htc built in messaging and one from hand cent.

Since I use Google Voice for Visual Voicemail, and want to use Handcent for messaging, there is really no use for the stock HTC Messaging app.
Is there a way to disable it completely?
Is there anyway to disable this in the messaging app because i like portrait for messaging since i have no lag there, but i do like to type in landscape on the browser. Am rooted running darchdroid 2.7 if it matters.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI set up my gmail email address to this k9 app and was wondering how can I basically turn off or uninstall the standard gmail application? I turned off the notifcation for the gmail app but cant seem to find where i can unistall it or turn it off in a sense. Basically my emails are being sent both to k9 and gmail app.
2. can you change the notifcation led light for the k9 app? currently it blinks purple when an email comes in and I cant seem to change it like I can with hancent or phone calls.
I'm on a Samsung G3 and just updated to 4.3. Enjoying it for the most part but the new lock screen is giving me some trouble. I preferred the one from 4.1 but I'm trying to adapt. Downloaded DashClock and added weather, email, and SMS extensions but I keep getting the stock Messaging widget popping up when I get a message (see image). I do want my phone to vibrate and the screen to turn on when I get a message, I just don't want to deal with the extra widgets.
DashClock is my default widget (got rid of the standard one and dragged DashClock to the right). Is there a way to disable all these extra widgets?
By the way, I did try disabling multiple widgets in the settings after setting DashClock to be my default and it kicked DashClock out and reverted back to the stock lock screen.
Simply disable the text messaging app and it will no longer appear on your unlock screen. Settings, apps, all, text messaging then select disable.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem getting the mail application for Exchange to work. I read through several threads and got to install Touchdown. Strange thing is that this app works fine and the mails from the Exchange server are sent perfectly to the HTC Desire. What is even more strange is that a colleague of mine has exactly the same Desire and is on the same Exchange server as I am and for him, the Mail application for Exchange works perfectly. I really want to use the standard mail application. I saw there is an option in Touchdown 'Fetch and trust certificate' which is not available in Mail for Exchange. I already tried to logon to the webmail via a browser but this did not seem to help.

View 8 Replies View Related75% of my phone use is attributed to text messaging. So I recently downloaded Handcent and I'm liking it a lot. It's a lot better than the bland default messaging application. I really like how customizable it is. My only gripes are that I wish I could change the physical Handcent icon itself and maybe rename it to "Messaging" or something, also wish the reminder notifications had a few more options. Other than that it's a great app. Any other good or better apps out there for text messaging?

It keeps popping up on the top bar whenever I get a text from anyone even after accessing that text in Handcent. It's not that big a deal but I need to go into my messaging app and view it to get rid of that notification. Is there a way to stop the notifications for the messaging app? Thank you.

My friend suggested it to me and I like its setup over the default Messaging app, so I wanted to delete it. But would deleting the default Messaging app also delete all the texts in general? Or would they carry over to the Handcent app and stay there even after deleting the Messaging app. I don't want to lose some of the texts that I already had.

So far I've downloaded chompSMS, Handcent SMS, and SMS (which seems to be an enhanced version of the stock one) Curious on which ones you guys are running and the benefits of some over the others? I do NOT want to simply do alternating rows, but I want to copy the format used in the MESSAGING app, where message rows have a different background color based on the username of the message. FYI: I am currently extending SimpleAdapter and overriding getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) . In this method I am trying to calculate setting the background color based on the position as compared to a list of 'positions to highlight' that I am maintaining each time I update the list, but so far this is only working the first time the list is updated. so my droid incredible began to slow down && i had to figure out what was making my phone so slow.. come to find out.. it was Handcent SMS -- the text messaging app i had been using ever since i bought the phone.. i updated it the last time it notified me of an update && then it stopped working... always force closing.. so i had to use chomp SMS instead.. but i hate chomp -- handcent is ten times better.. i tried reinstalling handcent on my phone but i couldnt even find it in the android market so i was assumed the maker removed it from the store.. do any of you know of any other text messaging apps that are really good for the droid incredible? or do you know of any way that i could possibly put handcent SMS back on my phone?

However the 2.2 messaging app. I can't stand it and I loved the 2.1 messaging app (enough to just go back to 2.1 if I can't get it) so I was wondering if anyone could give me the .apk file so I could manually install it on my droid. Personally I loved the old stock messaging app and I would LOVE to have it back. I know there's the whole issue of it not being compatible but if anyone has gotten it to work I would love to know. I don't want to have to go back to Handcent.
