I was using a treo755 and holy !*!%!#, why did i wait so long to upgrade. Anyhow, I'm using Chomp and as far as I can tell there is no way to call a sender of a text while in Chomp. If this feature doesn't exist then, is there an SMS app that has it?

I want to develop an application which will answer the incoming call after specific time is elapsed. Can anyone help me in generating the (green key)KEYCODE_CALL event programatically. I have tried the same with Intent.ACTION_ANSWER but I am getting the exception that No Activity Found by this.

Ive just noticed today that with the phone locked, upon recieving a call the phone switches to being unlocked even after the call is finished. i do look after this phone much more than i have done with other mobiles, but it strikes me that if i do misplace it, the first thing i do is get a mate to ring me to see if its under somthing or at someones house ect. it seems that doing this unlocks the phone for anyone to use or to have a nosey through your personal stuff..is there an autolock after call feature? or an app that does this?

I guess this is useful when talking while driving and you know the phone will end the call when you set it aside instead of having to look on the screen. Is there a way to display while calling if the call is connected or the other party still has not picked up the phone.

However, now neither the flip to silence the phone on an incoming call feature (the setting is on) OR the flip to activate the speakerphone when in a call now works. Basically I have a couple of older gen phones which are pretty crap for anything but media purposes, I use them whilst training or at an OP in Afghan. I just throw my headphones on if im running, as if I drop them.. I dont mind much.
Id like it if I could whack my sim in one, but remove the call function for OPSEC purposes. Still remain useful for SMS and Data(internet) usage whilst im away or even home. I've done this with certain devices (Wildfire, this was only used for Beats and Net, I removed the SMS and call function)
Is there anything out there that will send a podcast to your car radio or a music file etc. rather than having to put your headphones on you can listen to this rather than the radio, great for catchups!

I've got handcent installed and I've got it set up so that when I receive a text, the quick reply box pops up for 10/20 seconds. But if I'm away from my phone and I later check to see if I've received a text, the only indication I have is a small icon on the navigation bar.

"{recipientname}" is replaced by the name of the recipient that I get from the Contacts via Contacts.People.
For convenience, I'd like to replace "{sendername}" with the name of the sender, that means the name of the owner of the phone. (As stored in the email app, under Account Settings -> General Settings -> Your name) So, obviously that name is stored somewhere, ...

Is there any way to access this name via a content provider ? Or is there any other way to get a string (e.g. "John Doe" ) with the name of the owner/user of the device ?

Stock messaging app has become very laggy with over 3000 messages, some spawning threads of around 800 messages.Also, deleting them, while being an option, shouldn't be necessary. I delete all of my messages at the start of a new billing cycle and that's how it's always been with my smartphones, so none of those suggestions please For those of you who use 3rd party SMS apps, with large amounts of text messages, do you notice any of them being laggy?

The reason being is one HUGE glitch scared me away from handcent. the glitch where it would randomly send a text message to the wrong person from your contact list and pretty much pick a random contact to send the sms to. I can't really have that happen since I use my phone as my work phone and personal phone. It would be a VERY bad situation if a text message I was sending my girlfriend was randomly sent to someone from work or a customer. I've seen people posting about this glitch earlier this year but I've never seen anyone confirm whether it not the glitch has been fixed or still exists? It's not something I want to risk. I guess my reason for posting this is I am very curious to find out if that glitch has been fixed. I would LOVE to use hand cent or chomp but I would like some confirmation as to whether or not that glitch is no more. Can anyone confirm this?"

Is there a way for Chomp only to get the messages, and the standard one to stay blank?
I'm adding Android C2DM to a Android library project. I started with the com.google.android.c2dm package that is included with JumpNote and Chrome To Phone. In order to use this package, you have to subclass the C2DMBaseReceiver service which takes the Sender Id as an argument to it's constructor. In JumpNote, this argument is initialized using a hard-coded static variable in a config class. However, in an Android library project, which may be used by multiple concurrently running apps I don't think I can use a hard-coded static variable (that is, I believe it could lead to problems when/if multiple apps are trying to access/modify the static variable). I tried to think of a way to initialize the Sender Id without using a static variable and am stumped so far.The obvious solution would be to use the Manifest or a Resource string or a combination of the 2. For example, in strings.xml I might have a "ac2dmSender" string, which is accessed in a meta-data child of the C2DMReceiver service declaration in the manifest. However, it seems that you cannot get a reference to the PackageManager or ResourceManager from a static context, so there is no way for me to then retrieve the meta data in such a way as to pass it in to the constructor of C2DMBaseReceiver.

I notice that the native messaging app has the sender's name below the unlock bar on the lock screen, but using Handcent or ChompSMS seems to get rid of this.

The problem I am having now is that I want to set one alert sound for contact a, a different alert sound for contact b, etc... I was able to set my ringtones this way but can't figure out how to set the notification alerts.
