Is there any way to turn off Threaded messaging on the default messenger? Has anyone had any luck finding an app on the Market that allows standard messaging...I really hate threaded messaging!

I have the original T-Mobile G1 and am generally fond of it, actually so fond im on the verge of getting myself the HTC Desire when it hits the stores here. There are however a few things that "bug" me at present.
1: Is it possible to install and use programs directly from the memory card, or does programs still have to be installed to memeory with the newest release of Android OS?
2: Isn't it possible to turn of threaded messsaging and revert to the more classic look?. Either directly through the native client or through a 3rd party text messaging client?
3: And what about saving some of your texts?. Cause you know once in a while you recieve a text thats worth saving, and at present I don't seem to be able to find that option in 'Droid. So is that not supported or does that "just" require 3rd party software.
4: And have they finally fixed the forced google sync?. Where you can ONLY get contacts and stuff to your android device through gmail. Because im honestly a bit concerned with the fact that Google "owns" everything on gmail.
is there any way to change the "Messaging" button to launch Handcent SMS instead of the Defualt app? I love handcent and wanna use this button to launch that instead of the app I won't be using.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Handcent because of the battery drain issue, and like it a lot, but now I cannot turn off the OEM Messages program. I tried going into the Settings>Applications>Manage Applications to turn it off, and it doesn't work. I also did the "Use Handcent as default SMS" when that box first pops up. I get two different ringtone notifications too. Although I switched the ringer to the same one both through the phone's settings and through Handcent's settings.

I get one to my handcent and one to my default messaging app. I dont think i can uninstall the default program and i tried messing around with settings but still nothing.. Anyway i can turn off the messages going to my default messaging app?

I believe I want the Fascinate but this issue with Google Maps navigation is an issue since turn-by-turn navigation is a big feature for me. Does Bing Maps also offer turn-by-turn navigation as well? Is it voice assisted? Personally I don't care if it's Bing or Google but I don't want the Verizon one since it will require a monthly fee. As long as Bing Maps offers the same functionality as Google Maps, I'm fine.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI've just noticed a few things on the SF that have made me wonder if I'm missing something or if it can be changed.
First scenario.. I'm reading a text. I hit the "back" button, and it throws me to the homescreen sometimes. Then I hit the messaging button again, it brings me back to that specific text convo. I hit the back button again, and it now goes back to my inbox. Why? Is there something I'm doing that sometimes kicks me back to the homescreen instead of inbox?
Second scenario.. I'm sending a text to 2+ people. When it sends it, it essentially makes up a new contact of those people to send it to. What it should do, I think, is update each individual person's text log with that text. I find it really annoying to send a text to 10 people, and then when I get a text back from one of them, the text I sent them doesn't appear in the history. Any way to change that?
Thirdly.. I'm sure I'm just missing this, but is there any way to "mark read all" emails? I get a lot of junk emails, and so far I've had to just click through each one. Kind of cumbersome.
And this last one doesn't pertain to either email/messaging, but it's something that has caught my eye. Sometimes when I get a call, it goes to that whole "puzzle" idea and makes me fit the "Answer" puzzle in the blank spot. Other times, it just has an "Answer" button to click. It doesn't really bug me, but why does it do one sometimes instead of the other?
So I was in the middle of typing a text message and wasn't able to finish it. When I closed out I got a message saying, "sent to drafts" Now for the life of me I can't seem to locate where that saved draft went on my samsung fascinate? Any ideas on where this mystery draft is at? Thus far the phone has been very, very intuitive except for this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm sure I'm missing something stupid. I've turned off notifications in the stock Messaging app (I'm pretty sure). And those look different (they have the green text bubble as the icon). Can anyone clue me in as to what that 2nd notification is below the blue Handcent icon? And can I get rid of it? I'd like to keep the text messages private is why I ask - I have Handcent and the stock Messages under App Protector. And I have Handcent's option checked to not show messages in the bar, just the notification.

Its all black, and just says ME: Other Persons name: no avatar etc. Anyone know if theres a way to show the contacts avatar/image just like the Hero? I hate to install handcent for functionality that basically already exists by default. I Know it doesnt have popup's etc like handcent, but unless theres another app out there? At night she turns the phone off, plugs it into the wall charger to charge overnight, and then the phone turns itself back on. The phone will not stay off while she is trying to charge it.
