Motorola Droid :: Disable Really Text Messaging Mode?
May 7, 2010
I'm really in favor of the SMS texting format. I've recently installed an app that I really like, but wanted to know if and how to disable the really text messaging mode. As it stands now i receive two incoming text all the time now.

In the Messaging app in 2.2 when I'm in a thread it shows a pic of me and a pic of the other person next to every text sent and received. In the 2.1 app it simply showed my name and the other persons name; no pic of us next to every text. Is there anyway to disable showing the pics in the 2.2 app? Really don't see the need to have a pic next to each text.

Simply disable the text messaging app and it will no longer appear on your unlock screen. Settings, apps, all, text messaging then select disable.

When im texting someone, it stays in threading mode, which is fine. When i hit home or whatever to get out of messaging, whenever i get another text, lets say its from another person. I can pull down my notification bar, click the new text, and it just opens up the text i was last in. I think its weird how it wont open the next text message, possibly because the app was running in the background the whole time?

when you click on the Text Messaging icon that your text messages lag as they appear in the display (for example, I see phone numbers first associated with each message, and then I have to wait a few seconds before names slowly pop up in place of each number)?

I'm trying to determine if this issue is just associated with Bugless Beast V0.1 FRF57 or if it's something in the 2.2 itself.
I got to about 300 text messages earlier, and got a message saying ".com.android.mms A large number of SMS messages are being sent. Select "ok" to continue or press "Cancel" to stop sending."
This pops up for every text message I send. Even when I clear my text messages, this comes up. I had to manually reboot my phone to clear that out. Not sure what was going on.

How do I text people without going through the contacts or having to remember their numbers when I use the Messaging app? I try to add their name and it just texts to the associated numbers that the letters represent. There is no option to add people you want to next other than typing in their number. What am I missing?

Is there a way to disable haptic feedback when you move your phone to silent mode? I normally carry the phone with vibrate on, but in class I'd like to set it to silent, and then I'd like it to not use haptic feedback so that I can use the phone without making a ton of noise.

I used to be able to associate a ringtone to text messages from specific contacts on my LG Dare. Now I love my new Droid but it doesn't look like you can do that.

I have handcent sms for my droid but i have a few questions
1. i have the "Droid" voice ringtone but when i get a text message it says "Droid" twice idk why its doing that i thought i only have it set to go off once
2. also when i get a new message it gives me a notification in the bar on top and the only way to make it go away and make my led turn off is by manually dragging down the bar and clearing it! is there any way i can have it just not show up or fix it or something?

So now that the threaded text messaging displays both the pic of the person your texting and your own display pic how do you get your phone to display your own facebook account picture to your messages just like it does to your facebook friends that text you or your texting? Cause it just displays that blank android pic for me.

I have been trying to figure out for the longest time how you jump to a new line (i.e. add a carriage return or line feed) with the Droid X when text messaging? I've read that with other droids you can hit "shift" + "enter", but we dont have an enter key on the keyboard when text messaging.

I installed the updated GalaX theme and it brought in a new messaging app that is similar to the cyanogen sms app. However it corrects the time stamp but I get 2 messages for every received sms one at the correct time and one and the 4 or 5 hour off time. Can I remove the motorola sms application or rename it? Anyone know what that is?

I upgraded to the 2.2 os. Things have been slow/glitchy off and on since then. My text messaging notifications are now spotty, especially the sound, whereas before they worked great. The worst though, is that I discovered that all my text messaging history appears to have vanished beyond about 10 days ago. Before the update, my history was there from July 15, the day I got my phone. I have lost some very important texts. Does anyone know if there is any way to recover this? I have found messages in the forums about text messages being stored in the contact history even after deletion, but I have checked there and the history only goes back the same length as my text messages now, about 10 days or so. I am very upset about losing the message history for some of my important contacts.

Ok so I just rooted my X and have only removed some of the straight forward bloatware... i.e. CityID, Blockbuster...
After doing so, I did a factory reset and now the stock text messaging app won't stay open...
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue.?

I got this second messaging icon that appears in the top left when I get a text. Its relentless and can only be cleared by dropping down the notification window and clicking on 'clear'. It looks like a small envelope but not very good graphically. I originally thought it was default app notification but its not. I'm rooted and have a custom rom installed. Someone please tell me how to stop it, I can't take it anymore.

So I am wanting to buy the Motorola Droid but looking to get ride of the messaging option such as text messaging. I mean I will have access to e-mail so do I really need text messaging? Trying to save some money and I really only get maybe 50 texts a month.
Anyone else have a Droid without the text option. Just Nationwide Talk?
Also another question: Anyone buy a Droid through Bestbuy? Looking to buy Droid through Bestbuy cause hubby wants the Blackberry 8530 Curve? and you can get it free when you buy the Droid. Otherwise through Verizon you can get the Eris with a purchase of the Droid but hubby insists on the Blackberry, he's lets say not really into computers anyways.

I am going to be doing some international traveling and my first destination is Shanghai, China. Questions are as follows:
1. Will my droid 1 work internationally?
2. Is there a way to disable the phone feature and only use text?
3. If I text, will there be any additional fees?
4. If I do take a call, how much would it be?
5. If I use skype on wifi, will it work or cost me anything?
6. If I do disable the phone feature, will skype and text messaging work?
7. Will my email still check over 3G or whatever signal? Is there additional fees for this?
