does anyone really use Google Talk for texting, what are the advantages... if there's any. Why would you use the talk (google/Gmail) App instead of the other texting Apps/programs.

Today I had a notification, that said I had an im on google talk, so as normal, I clicked it. Nothing happened, and I tried again, still nothing happened. So I searched my phone and I can't find the app anywhere, has this happened to anyone else?

I could see he was online and so could he, and he could receive the messages I sent him. However, I couldn't receive any messages he sent me (which was unfortunate since I set up a really cool Beach Boys ringtone to go off for gchat notifications...). Anyways, has anyone else had this problem?

I'd like to be able to use Google Talk on my Hero and his BB in lieu of SMS for chatting with him while at work, so that I can turn my phone on Airplane mode with only wifi on to save my battery (signal is terrible in my office)My concern is that I'm not sure if Google Talk is always connected like his BBM seems to be. Anyone have any insight on this? I see that "Automatically Log In" is an option....but say for instance we don't chat for a few days and he decides to send me a message. Will it be pushed to my phone?

I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.

I unchecked the automatic sign in box in the settings and forced closed and reopened the program again. When I open it, it automatically signs me into one account. It's extremely annoying. I hope I don't have to do a full reset of the phone because I already have so much stuff on it already, including a lot of personal data. This is something that I just can't get by because I need to start using G Talk now.

I added a few of my family members to my chat as SMS (just their phone numbers), and I can chat with them via chat for me, and SMS for them in any browser. Is it possible to send SMS via Google Talk on Android? I assume it's possible because it's possible on a PC, but why hasn't Google added the support? I guess the carriers wouldn't like it much, but that shouldn't stop Google.

Whenever I click the icon, it shows a black screen for about 1/10 of a second, then goes right back to the home screen. I tried force stopping the app, clearing the cache and the data and restarting my phone and checked to see if there was something wrong with my data connection, but nothing worked.

The reason being, my organization will open the port to the Android sync and push services but only for that specific protocol (for security purposes obviously).

Green for available, red for busy, etc but there's a blue bubble that is displayed.I read online that this means you have been "Idle" for 10 minutes but how does this work on the Android phone? If someone is always signed in, why does this bubble pop up?

If not, is there an easy-to-use XMPP interface available or am I stuck with writing a XMPP client from scratch? Alternatively, does the Google Talk application running on Android phones support any intents that I could use to tell it to change the user's status? Now theres some interesting groupchat apps out there. I was looking into using BrightKite... My classmates use it during boring lectures in gradschool. But the problem with BrightKite is that Empty (that is his nickname) does not have free texting to any carrier but verizon, and BrightKite's groupchat # is not verizon. I am in a similar situation, but since I have an android phone I can access the groupchat via that and I don't need to use up my texts.............
i have run into a problem with my Gtalk on my Droid. i sent someone a link (simple www . com format) and it forced close. now every time i open this person's chat it force closes. i ended the chat, cleared history, forced close from APPLICATIONS, i can't seem to clear the contents of the chat and/or stop this force close problem.

Google Talk failed to login. If this is a Google Apps account, confirm that chat is enabled for this account. I have logged into my domain Dashboard and Chat is on for my domain, Chat works in Gmail just fine. Everything else on my phone seems to be working, just not Google Talk. I just got the phone, I'm in Tucson with T-Mobile service and I've tried both over WIFI and over Edge/3G.

The first thing i found was the XMPP protocol, however it's not real P2P, but if i can use the existing google talk service, i'm ready to go. Is this possible while using your existing google account without interfering with the normal working of your google talk client?
Then i heard about JXTA, a real P2P solution, and it's already ported from J2ME to Android (http://code.google.com/p/peerdroid/).
Maybe i am overcomplexing things here (as i do sometimes)

Now, I can't seem to find it anywhere both on the phone or online? The closest I could find is google services which goes through the Dolphin browser - clumsy in my opinion.
