So today I tried using the Google Talk app with a friend of mine who was at his computer. I could see he was online and so could he, and he could receive the messages I sent him. However, I couldn't receive any messages he sent me (which was unfortunate since I set up a really cool Beach Boys ringtone to go off for gchat notifications...). Anyways, has anyone else had this problem?

I'm able to send messages from my Google Talk on Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.1 update 1.
However, I'm not receiving any messages at all from anyone. This is making me feel horribly disabled.
Has anyone found any solution to this problem?
I tried several things like restarting the phone, clearing Google talk service and app cache, signing out and back in, etc. I don't want to reset the phone again and loose all my current setup. I've read some posts that reset also doesnt work.
Is there any solution to this problem?
So I was using my the handcent sms app on my Droid today and all a sudden the person i was sending messages to was receiving the messages 3 times. Then all a sudden when i went back to text someone else my whole thread was gone and all my messages had been deleted. Then I try using the stock messaging app and obviously all my threads are deleted but messages send twice, any suggestions?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got my samsun captivate a week ago and i love it! but lately its been sending old messages that i haves sent before to people without me sending them. i look in the text log and the messages are there like if i had sent them but didnt. sometimes the messages that got sent on its own dont show up tho. why is my phone doing this? should i take it back to at&t and get another one? help. i really love this phone and dnt want to get rid of it
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I just got off a half hour conversation with AT&T and We cant figure out for the life of the phone, why MMS messages cannot be sent. Although, when they did send me a small AT&T logo I did receive it. And When I sent that to myself, it did send and I received it again. I then took out my SIM and put it in my BlackBerry 9700 and MMS sent find and received fine. Any size picture. I then took a picture with the camera on the Captive in Fine, Normal and Super Fine. And each picture I tried to send to myself. Each said Compressing picture and when I go to send it, it stays on sending. That guy got so fed up he told me to Google it lol. So I did, and I see some others are having the same issue.
View 38 Replies View RelatedI used chompSMS, and after updating to their 4.6 version, I was no longer able to receive text messages. I tried everything and finally resorted to doing a factory reset, now everything is working, and I am receiving all the messages I was supposed to get during the period it wasn't working. Now that I am getting all the messages, I realize that I wasn't getting them from before the update as well. I guess chomp is not to blame.

Ive noticed that when I send a text and the phone is out of signal, it just says, "FAILED" and calls it a day. I miss my blackberry in this respect, it would wait until it DID have signal and then would automatically resend. Is there any way to set this phone up so it automatically resends when I get signal back? I do get it sometimes where it says that its saving the texts until signal is rereached, however, lets say I get one bar back, well the phone "sees" that Im getting signal, tries to send, and then fails, and then calls it a day....

From looking on forums it appears it's because I mistakenly deleted the GTalk (Google Talk app). I'm trying to reinstall it but can't find the apk files for it and probably shouldn't tinker with it much more.

First, it only lets me send to 10 contacts, but more importantly when I sent it the message shows up 10 times in same window. Or at least plans to do so?I have been looking at this issue for a while, because in a corporate environment it is essential to be able to push information out, or trigger actions via SMS or other connections.I have successfully sent an SMS between emulator instances, and successfully received an SMS by using a BroadcastReceiver on another emulator instance. I have also been able to use SmsManager. sendDataMessage to send a data message to a port on another emulator instance, but in this case the BroadcastReceiver is never triggered. In my main class which extends TabActivity I have a Bluetooth Adapter which handles sending and receiving messages. I initialize the BluetoothAdapter onStart. Part of the initialization tries to reference controls on the three tabs. But my problem is that only TabA (my default tab) has been initialized at this point so when it tries to access TabB and TabC, they're still null.. How can I initialize all 3 activities, and access controls on each of the tabs when receiving messages from the BluetoothAdapter? (Basically I want TabA to contain a TextView to log all messages, TabB will contain a few controls like sliders and checkboxes that will change based on the messages recieved, and TabC will just have an array of buttons that send specific data..)
I'm interested in creating an Android application that will set the user's Google Talk custom status message to something created by my application.Since a user running Android (at least on the G1 w/ T-Mobile) is always signed in to their Google Account, is there a way to leverage that and not require the user enter credentials into my application? If not, is there an easy-to-use XMPP interface available or am I stuck with writing a XMPP client from scratch? Alternatively, does the Google Talk application running on Android phones support any intents that I could use to tell it to change the user's status? While researching this issue I have come across a number of pages that reference what appears to be a deprecated com.google.android.xmppservice and com.google.android.gtalkservice. Is there a replacement for either of those or were they removed without replacement?

With my Blackberry, I was used to having Blackberry Messenger service that allowed me to message other BB owners, without using my SMS/MMS count with Verizion. Without that, I have set up Google Talk as an alternative.
Pardon me asking something here that everyone else proabably already knows, but does the Google Talk messages get counted as SMS/MMS messages by Verizon ? I do not use it except to message one of my friends from time to time, so I am fairly ignorant about the various types of 'chat' messaging systems out there.
Thanks for your help, and I am enjoying everything that this Eris can do so far. I was a bit leery at making the switch, but I can see Android systems are a good way to go.
I'm writing an app that stores secret (encrypted+hidden using steg) information in MMS messages. Obviously I need a way to test this, in particular, sending and receiving MMS messages. I have one Android phone, a Nexus One. I know that MMS's cannot be sent between emulator instances, but other than using up loads of MMS credit, is there another way of testing out MMS sending/receiving without just spending loads of money?

A phone call to a friend confirmed they were getting them from me, but I could not see anything back from them. One friend said she sent me over 50 messages throughout the day, to see if I would get one. I was signed in at the time, but never saw any of them. When I got home, I signed in on the computer and was hoping to see a flood of the messages, but nothing popped up. My guess is, the messages were getting sent and confirmed, since I was signed in through the phone, but the app was not displaying them.

We tried everything over the phone to try to get around the issue without having to reflash. Any other ideas? I tried pulling the battery for 2 minutes, changing the MSID number.The MSID number won't stay.It goes back to 0000000. Any other ideas or is reflashing the way to go?

I seem to receive text messages without problems but sending text messages does not get to certain people. One colleague at work who is on ATT can send me a text but does not receive mine in return. Similar stories for some other contacts of mine and some are on Verizon as well.
