Before I updated the leaked 2.1 v3, I used to have an app called Google Talk that would allow me to chat with google contacts. Now, I can't seem to find it anywhere both on the phone or online? The closest I could find is google services which goes through the Dolphin browser - clumsy in my opinion.

I just recently started using google talk because I wanted something quicker than SMS. I made my girlfriend a gmail account so we could use that rather than text, but I can't seem to figure out how to sync the google talk contact to her. I added her gmail account to her contact card but on google talk she's still coming up as a separate contact.

I went into the application manager and cleared the app data, and also power cycled the phone. Any other suggestions? I doesn't appear i can delete and re-download.

The one that I found, the hard way after 3 straight days of only getting 10 hours of battery life, is the Google Talk service. I accidentally opened it and System Panel didn't kill it. I only found it by looking at Battery Uses>Running Services.
View 17 Replies View RelatedMy status on Google Talk never changes despite the fact that I have the settings checked in settings to "go to away when I turn off the screen" as well as "show mobile indicator to friends". This wasn't functional in 1.5, 2.1v1 and now 2.1v3 on my Eris. Has anyone had success? I've seen this function work on a TMobile rooted G1 but that's it.
I can watch the indicator change on the web when I change it manually (signed in as another user), and its very responsive. However, no auto-away when i lock the phone, and no indication that I'm on a mobile phone.
Ive been reading this forum for several months, and bought my Eris last month (previous Blackberry Storm owner). With my Blackberry, I was used to having Blackberry Messenger service that allowed me to message other BB owners, without using my SMS/MMS count with Verizion. Without that, I have set up Google Talk as an alternative.
Pardon me asking something here that everyone else proabably already knows, but does the Google Talk messages get counted as SMS/MMS messages by Verizon ? I do not use it except to message one of my friends from time to time, so I am fairly ignorant about the various types of 'chat' messaging systems out there.
Thanks for your help, and I am enjoying everything that this Eris can do so far. I was a bit leery at making the switch, but I can see Android systems are a good way to go.
Is there a way to send SMS through google talk like in my regular Gmail account.

I open to read it and its a reply from the conversation that I was having on my PC via the Droids Google talk. So I reply back via the Google talk on the PC and dag gone it, if his response didnt come back on the Droid. What the heck is that all about?

It happens both on my Droid and in the chat client in gmail. The reason I'm asking here is that it only seems to be affecting my buddy and me and we both have Droids. Our friends who don't have droids can talk to one-another, but any message to or from us have issues. Could be coincidence but I thought I'd ask.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo, not much of a Google Talk user, but now and then. And, I mostly use it via my desktop gMail app.. not on my phone.
Anyway, I close out the Talk app, but no matter what, even if it is closed, killed, off, it activates itself when someone sends me a chat.. even if I am logged on via my gMail account.
How the heck can you shut it off? What is it that makes it start up because someone wants to chat. I see no way to stop it and I am not always in the mood or able to chat and do not want to be disturbed but this Google Talk seems to start up and alert you anyway.
A friend of mine has the talk to me app on his G2. i was wondering if its available for the eris as i cant find it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHi everyone, I recently flashed sapphire 1.0.0, frozen yogurt, bugless beast 0.4 with clockwork mod recovery V 2.0.1.3, and had success with all roms above, except for the fact that in sapphire, i'm greeted by the droid setup tutorial, which is completely non-responsive, (I remove the setupwizard.apk from the Gapps .zip which causes it to set up without a hitch), and in all of the mentioned roms, when I attempt to use gmail, gtalk, or the market they all crash on startup. In the market I see a hint of the EULA before im booted back to the home screen. I'm coming from 2.2 build number "voles-userdebug 2.2 FRFxx 49593 test-keys".

It was an easy option on my NO as well as my wifes Milestone. Cant figure it out on the X or her Droid 2.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOk I've read a gazillion threads on battery life and 2.1 etc etc and you have me all waiting anxiously for an update and bigger batteries but what about actual talk time on the phone? didn't see any threads about that. Its not uncommon for my phone to be a toy all week then on the weekend catch up with some buds or family or whatever and yak on the thing for 2 hours straight. Will it hold? I know my old razer with an ext batt would go 4 hours talk time easy, glimmer would do 2.5 hrs easy with stock battery sometimes more. Pearl did well, haven't really talked the Storm out cause its my work phone and I tend to shun that thing on the weekends ....so let me know how long you've talked on it! Battery life does seem to stink but I can't put the damn thing down so I'm sure that has something to do with it and all my other smartphones sucked battery wise too the first week or so, so I'm not passing judgment yet, just want to know how long i can talk on the thing before it dies....I will do my own testing soon but would like some ideas.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAnybody out there see what I'm seeing? It seems as if the power/sleep button is a bit more recessed than the phone/talk button that pops out a little more. Could this just be from heavier use since I am always hitting the sleep button after phone use? Or, is this a HTC design to prevent you from hitting the button as easily. Not really a huge difference here just enough to feel if you run your finger over both of them. Wondering if it will get lower over time? Good ol' ocd flaring up again.

I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.

I'd like to be able to use Google Talk on my Hero and his BB in lieu of SMS for chatting with him while at work, so that I can turn my phone on Airplane mode with only wifi on to save my battery (signal is terrible in my office)My concern is that I'm not sure if Google Talk is always connected like his BBM seems to be. View 11 Replies View Relatedwhy I'm not able to sign out of Google Talk? I have 2 Gmail accounts and want to switch over to my other one. I unchecked the automatic sign in box in the settings and forced closed and reopened the program again. When I open it, it automatically signs me into one account. It's extremely annoying. I hope I don't have to do a full reset of the phone because I already have so much stuff on it already, including a lot of personal data. This is something that I just can't get by because I need to start using G Talk now.

I added a few of my family members to my chat as SMS (just their phone numbers), and I can chat with them via chat for me, and SMS for them in any browser. Is it possible to send SMS via Google Talk on Android? I assume it's possible because it's possible on a PC, but why hasn't Google added the support? I guess the carriers wouldn't like it much, but that shouldn't stop Google.
