View 3 RepliesWould deleting TALK and INSTANT MESSAGING on my captivate will effect any other application?
for instance, if i delete IM, am i able to download different application like SKYPE beta. Skype Lite Free Android App
Just wanted to relay my issues that occurred with Startup Auditor. I use a Moto Droid 2.0.1.
First issue: I disabled Google Talk Startup as non of my friends have an Android device. This caused an issue with the Market. none of my apps would download the updates and I could not Download new apps. The Market is somehow connected to Google Talk. After enabling Talk and logging back in my apps started downloading.
Second issue: I disabled the stock messaging app because I am using Handcent SMS. This caused my text messages to delete themselves. When I opened my messaging treads all that was shown was my side of the conversation. After re enabling the stock Messaging app my messages started downloading and showing up in the treads. Handcent must use some of the same things that the stock app uses and Startup Editor was killing.
I was a huge advocate for ebuddy, but the app doesn't support Froyo, and I'm using a 2.2 rom. So, I'm hoping one of you can recommend an instant messaging app to try out. I've tried a few and can't find one I like.
ebuddy: No froyo support
Meebo: Blows. Constant disconnects.
IM+: No longer supported
What I need:
1. AIM, Facebook, GChat, MSN
2. Remain signed in 24/7
3. Froyo support
I am making an IM application for Android. The application consists of a server and client, both residing on the android. At startup, the applications register with a webserver. If a client wants to send an IM to a server behind a NAT router, how this be done? I heard of stun4j and jstun but found nowhere an example of their usage in android.

Does the instant messaging apps such as AIM use your text messaging plan?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm having another problem with my milestone that I'd like to share with developers and Android coders: Whenever I run memory-intensive applications while I have an IM app running in the background, the IM app is often killed without any user notification whatsoever.Take this scenario for instance (works every time on my Milestone): A few background apps are already running: Sipdroid, Locale, Titanium Backup's service... 2. Launch Nimbuzz (or Fring, eBuddy or Meebo - it's reproducible on all of them) 3. Use lots of memory - for instance with a browser (open lots of windows will full desktop sites), or by launching multiple memory- intensive applications at once (Maps Navigation or other navigation apps work well)

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was playing with my friend's G1 when I noticed a native, Android IM app. So I searched around my DROID and found nothing. What I want to know is where did it go? Why don't I have it? Where can I get it, and what would be the best solution without it?
Note: I would primarily use AIM.
I have the HTC Hero and my friend has a Blackberry. What would be the best messaging system for us to instant chat on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have seen other devices (such as the HTC Hero) that have an app called IM, to my understanding this is the Stock Instant Messaging application. Is there any way I could get it on my Vibrant? I really want to try it and see if it can replace eBuddy.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have logged in with my live messenger account with the Instant Messaging app for the whole week since I got the phone. Wow I just checked my bill online and I got charged for over 500 sms sent and received. Even I logged in using my live account still consider as sms??? Unbelievable ATT

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I am wanting to buy the Motorola Droid but looking to get ride of the messaging option such as text messaging. I mean I will have access to e-mail so do I really need text messaging? Trying to save some money and I really only get maybe 50 texts a month.
Anyone else have a Droid without the text option. Just Nationwide Talk?
Also another question: Anyone buy a Droid through Bestbuy? Looking to buy Droid through Bestbuy cause hubby wants the Blackberry 8530 Curve? and you can get it free when you buy the Droid. Otherwise through Verizon you can get the Eris with a purchase of the Droid but hubby insists on the Blackberry, he's lets say not really into computers anyways.
Has anyone noticed the option for messaging is missing in the Froyo 3D gallery. All the other sharing options are there accept for messaging. Of course I would rather use the 3D gallery instead of stock. Any suggestions.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI just noticed under the google search box in the default android broswer Instant (beta) is on but when I start typing, no prediction comes up. Now, I don't know how useful this will be on a mobile device, but I did want to try it out.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using a PreferenceActivity to let the user set some values. I am feeding it the xml file with the defined preferences.
I have set all the android:defaultValue="" for them.
When I start my application, I need the preferences, or if they are not set yet manually, I want the default values:
CODE:.................
However, when android:defaultValue="true" I still get false. So, it looks like the defaultValues set in the XML are not used anywhere but when initializing the preferences-screen.
I don't want to hardcode the default values in the getBoolean() method. So, is there a way get the default-values with only defining these in 1 place?
have any of you faced this annoying problem? IMG_4638 on Flickr - Photo Sharing. I've tried soft-resetting is, didn't work. hard resetting did the trick, but the app disappeared again a week later. any fixes that doesn't require hard resetting?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy boyfriend uses a BB and loves Blackberry Messenger. I'd like to be able to use Google Talk on my Hero and his BB in lieu of SMS for chatting with him while at work, so that I can turn my phone on Airplane mode with only wifi on to save my battery (signal is terrible in my office)My concern is that I'm not sure if Google Talk is always connected like his BBM seems to be. Anyone have any insight on this? I see that "Automatically Log In" is an option....but say for instance we don't chat for a few days and he decides to send me a message. Will it be pushed to my phone?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone has been using Google Talk exclusively for SMS and ditched their texting w Verizon all together. I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI see Engadget claims its working on all Android 2.2 phones, but I cant seem to get it to work on my Incredible.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI think I am just missing something here. I thought there was to supposed to be a Google instant messenger type thing (like tied into your google account). Feel kind of stupid asking but couldnt search and find it. How do I do it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy application is used on multiple platforms so it saves it preferences to a file (rather than to the standard Android SharedPreferences).
Is there any easy of reusing the PreferenceActivity to save preferences to a file or is it a case of creating a whole new activity to do the job? If the latter is the case is there a layout I can use that will make the activity look like the normal preferences screen? PreferenceActivity uses com.android.internal.R.layout.preference_list_content but this doesn't appear to be available to apps for reuse.
why I'm not able to sign out of Google Talk? I have 2 Gmail accounts and want to switch over to my other one. I unchecked the automatic sign in box in the settings and forced closed and reopened the program again. When I open it, it automatically signs me into one account. It's extremely annoying. I hope I don't have to do a full reset of the phone because I already have so much stuff on it already, including a lot of personal data. This is something that I just can't get by because I need to start using G Talk now.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI like chatting within Google Talk, but the thing that is missing from the Android Application is your SMS contacts. I added a few of my family members to my chat as SMS (just their phone numbers), and I can chat with them via chat for me, and SMS for them in any browser. Is it possible to send SMS via Google Talk on Android? I assume it's possible because it's possible on a PC, but why hasn't Google added the support? I guess the carriers wouldn't like it much, but that shouldn't stop Google.
