Android :: Google Talk Shared Status Messages

I'm interested in creating an Android application that will set the user's Google Talk custom status message to something created by my application.Since a user running Android (at least on the G1 w/ T-Mobile) is always signed in to their Google Account, is there a way to leverage that and not require the user enter credentials into my application? If not, is there an easy-to-use XMPP interface available or am I stuck with writing a XMPP client from scratch? Alternatively, does the Google Talk application running on Android phones support any intents that I could use to tell it to change the user's status? While researching this issue I have come across a number of pages that reference what appears to be a deprecated com.google.android.xmppservice and com.google.android.gtalkservice. Is there a replacement for either of those or were they removed without replacement?

so Google Talk has different bubble statuses that you can give yourself. Green for available, red for busy, etc but there's a blue bubble that is displayed.I read online that this means you have been "Idle" for 10 minutes but how does this work on the Android phone? If someone is always signed in, why does this bubble pop up?

I just realized that my status changes the moment I unlock my phone. I rather use Google's app but may give up on it if I can't change this behavior.

Ok, I tried looking around for an answer but can't seem to find one. Anyone know what it means when there's a blue status bubble on the google talk application? Does this mean that the person is chatting? I'm confused and you people is smart

Anyone else having issues with Google Talk on the Droid Eris? I can open the application, however my friends list is gone and I can't receive or send any messages. I went into the application manager and cleared the app data, and also power cycled the phone. Any other suggestions? I doesn't appear i can delete and re-download.

I've seen such posts on the site earlier, however never found a solution to this problem.
I'm able to send messages from my Google Talk on Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.1 update 1.
However, I'm not receiving any messages at all from anyone. This is making me feel horribly disabled.
Has anyone found any solution to this problem?
I tried several things like restarting the phone, clearing Google talk service and app cache, signing out and back in, etc. I don't want to reset the phone again and loose all my current setup. I've read some posts that reset also doesnt work.
Is there any solution to this problem?

So today I tried using the Google Talk app with a friend of mine who was at his computer. I could see he was online and so could he, and he could receive the messages I sent him. However, I couldn't receive any messages he sent me (which was unfortunate since I set up a really cool Beach Boys ringtone to go off for gchat notifications...). Anyways, has anyone else had this problem?

Ive been reading this forum for several months, and bought my Eris last month (previous Blackberry Storm owner). With my Blackberry, I was used to having Blackberry Messenger service that allowed me to message other BB owners, without using my SMS/MMS count with Verizion. Without that, I have set up Google Talk as an alternative.
Pardon me asking something here that everyone else proabably already knows, but does the Google Talk messages get counted as SMS/MMS messages by Verizon ? I do not use it except to message one of my friends from time to time, so I am fairly ignorant about the various types of 'chat' messaging systems out there.
Thanks for your help, and I am enjoying everything that this Eris can do so far. I was a bit leery at making the switch, but I can see Android systems are a good way to go.

I have noticed that the green 'online' status indicator in Talk doesn't update on my phone when someone signs off, it stays green for them. They show as offline on my PC but continue to show online on the Droid. If I sign out and back in to Talk on the phone it will update their status, but otherwise not. I've tried closing chat but that doesn't seem to work, I don't see anything in settings that would affect it either. Any ideas?
I'm the only one using Android, my other contacts are all using Talk online (not with a phone) if that makes a difference.

I have got quite a lot of calenders on Google, some are shared with other people some are shared with my from other people and they all sync to my phone except for one of the most important ones which is on my Calender on the pc and the Google site but not on my phone.
I had the owner unshare it with me and then re share it but this has not worked. does anybody know how i can sort this? it is really important that i have that i can see it on my phone.

My boyfriend uses a BB and loves Blackberry Messenger. I'd like to be able to use Google Talk on my Hero and his BB in lieu of SMS for chatting with him while at work, so that I can turn my phone on Airplane mode with only wifi on to save my battery (signal is terrible in my office)My concern is that I'm not sure if Google Talk is always connected like his BBM seems to be. Anyone have any insight on this? I see that "Automatically Log In" is an option....but say for instance we don't chat for a few days and he decides to send me a message. Will it be pushed to my phone?

I was wondering if anyone has been using Google Talk exclusively for SMS and ditched their texting w Verizon all together. I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.

why I'm not able to sign out of Google Talk? I have 2 Gmail accounts and want to switch over to my other one. I unchecked the automatic sign in box in the settings and forced closed and reopened the program again. When I open it, it automatically signs me into one account. It's extremely annoying. I hope I don't have to do a full reset of the phone because I already have so much stuff on it already, including a lot of personal data. This is something that I just can't get by because I need to start using G Talk now.

I like chatting within Google Talk, but the thing that is missing from the Android Application is your SMS contacts. I added a few of my family members to my chat as SMS (just their phone numbers), and I can chat with them via chat for me, and SMS for them in any browser. Is it possible to send SMS via Google Talk on Android? I assume it's possible because it's possible on a PC, but why hasn't Google added the support? I guess the carriers wouldn't like it much, but that shouldn't stop Google.

I've been having problems with Google Talk on my Desire for 2 days now - I can't start it up. Whenever I click the icon, it shows a black screen for about 1/10 of a second, then goes right back to the home screen. I tried force stopping the app, clearing the cache and the data and restarting my phone and checked to see if there was something wrong with my data connection, but nothing worked.

which protocol Google Talk on Android uses? I know that for the Talk application on Gmail uses the Jabber/XMPP protocol. I need to know what protocol (or if it's the same protocol) that's the protocol being used on port 5228.
The reason being, my organization will open the port to the Android sync and push services but only for that specific protocol (for security purposes obviously).

I did a search and found some old (4-11 months old) threads but I'm hoping there's been some updates.I just decided to give Google Talk a whirl and it looks great, but the first account I added to my phone isn't the account I primarily use (which has the majority of my contacts). Is there a way to switch accounts in Google Talk so I have all the contacts from my main account?If not (that'd be something they need to address in a GTalk update) is there an app that will allow me to use the other?

Also, is there a way to have their selected photos replace the existing photo I have for them in my Contacts?

I setup sharing between my calendar and my wife's calendar in Google Calendars. When I go on my PC and check my calendar I see all my events and all my wife's events. On my phone it was working perfect to where I saw my events and hers on my calendar, but then all of the sudden last week I can't see her events anymore. I check the permissions and sharing in google cals and they haven't been changed.
On my phone I can add an event to her cal and see it on my phone and on my PC, but if she adds events to her cal I can no longer see them on my phone. More info: when I go int settings and calendars, I see her calendar listed and it's checked, but her events still don't show up. More testing: seems as though if she adds an event on google cal on her laptop I see it on my phone, but all the events she has created on her phone are not showing up with mine even though we are sharing our cals.

For some reason, I can only see my personal calendar and my exchange calendar on my Hero even my studio and wife's calendar are shared to my account. I seem fine on my PC but I can't see them on my phone. My wife has a hero and she can see my calendar and the studio calendar without any issues.

My wife and I have new GS3's. We managed to sync our calendars online through google and are able to see our individual calendars on our phone through S Planner. We also shared our calendars with each other and can view them online. However, we cannot see each other's calendar on the GS3. Is there a setting or something that we are missing?

i have run into a problem with my Gtalk on my Droid. i sent someone a link (simple www . com format) and it forced close. now every time i open this person's chat it force closes. i ended the chat, cleared history, forced close from APPLICATIONS, i can't seem to clear the contents of the chat and/or stop this force close problem.

Starting two days ago my Nexus One wont log into Google Talk, I get the message:
Authentication Error
Google Talk failed to login. If this is a Google Apps account, confirm that chat is enabled for this account. I have logged into my domain Dashboard and Chat is on for my domain, Chat works in Gmail just fine. Everything else on my phone seems to be working, just not Google Talk. I just got the phone, I'm in Tucson with T-Mobile service and I've tried both over WIFI and over Edge/3G.
