View 1 RepliesGoogle talk service starts running as soon as the phone is on, even though the app is closed (with ATK). Anyone know how to prevent it from starting up with the phone? I dont really use gchat on the phone so I dont want it to run unless i open up the app.The same occurs with google voice (which i only have set up for voicemail). This one I dont care too much if its on since at least its useful for voicemail.

View 3 Replies View Relatedthis is an issue that I have always noticed but just decided now to create a thread for it as to a question of why Google Maps is running in the background and how can I make it stop? It takes about 5mb of RAM which I care about since I am using a very low memory device, The Motorola Droid 1.
Here's a pic:
how I can make it stop running in the background? It is confirmed that GPS if off and im not signed in to Latitude or anything like that.
I use Google Latitude with several friends, but have noticed that when I run it in the background, my last know location on the friends phone shows where I "stopped" but never updates. Example: I leave my house with Google Maps/Latitude running and decide I want to listen to DroidLive. Once I switch to DroidLive it appears that Latitude stops broadcasting my locations and my friends see that I'm in the middle of a highway for 30-40 minutes until I kill my music and go back to the maps. Is this a known "bug" or is it something that just doesn't work? I thought that the processes would continue to work, but I might be wrong. I also notice that when launching another app while in Google Maps that my GPS indicator also stops until I get back into the Maps.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed that if i dont use the app to kill running apps after i exit them they are still running in the background is this normal for the Android? I am coming from Pre so not sure if they are killed when exited.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI spent hours last night search and trying various combinations of APN settings. But I still can't send or receive MMS messages.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone has been using Google Talk exclusively for SMS and ditched their texting w Verizon all together. I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy boyfriend uses a BB and loves Blackberry Messenger. I'd like to be able to use Google Talk on my Hero and his BB in lieu of SMS for chatting with him while at work, so that I can turn my phone on Airplane mode with only wifi on to save my battery (signal is terrible in my office)My concern is that I'm not sure if Google Talk is always connected like his BBM seems to be. Anyone have any insight on this? I see that "Automatically Log In" is an option....but say for instance we don't chat for a few days and he decides to send me a message. Will it be pushed to my phone?
View 11 Replies View Relatedwhy I'm not able to sign out of Google Talk? I have 2 Gmail accounts and want to switch over to my other one. I unchecked the automatic sign in box in the settings and forced closed and reopened the program again. When I open it, it automatically signs me into one account. It's extremely annoying. I hope I don't have to do a full reset of the phone because I already have so much stuff on it already, including a lot of personal data. This is something that I just can't get by because I need to start using G Talk now.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI like chatting within Google Talk, but the thing that is missing from the Android Application is your SMS contacts. I added a few of my family members to my chat as SMS (just their phone numbers), and I can chat with them via chat for me, and SMS for them in any browser. Is it possible to send SMS via Google Talk on Android? I assume it's possible because it's possible on a PC, but why hasn't Google added the support? I guess the carriers wouldn't like it much, but that shouldn't stop Google.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a EVO and I am getting Could not connect to server when trying to log into Google talk. If this a common problem that people have had?
View 3 Replies View RelatedBefore I updated the leaked 2.1 v3, I used to have an app called Google Talk that would allow me to chat with google contacts. Now, I can't seem to find it anywhere both on the phone or online? The closest I could find is google services which goes through the Dolphin browser - clumsy in my opinion.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was chatting with my brother Joseph with Google Talk on my incredible. He's chatting using a computer at work and i'm using google talk on my phone via Wifi at my home. We're both using google talk. There's was another person on my end of the phone chatting with my brother and I didn't notice it. The text highlighted Red is the douchbag hacker. My name is Austin in the conversation. So this douchbag was telling my brother where my sister lived. In the end, it seems as there were a networking problem but I have no idea.
Red text = 3rd person

I've been using my Droid for a day and noticed that the emoticons for google talk are little android emoticons, which I don't particularly like. Is there any way to change them to look normal??
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to send SMS through google talk like in my regular Gmail account.
View 12 Replies View RelatedIt seemed after the update, Google Talk will not quit running at all. No matter if I sign out and stop the service. It will be back and running in about 5 minutes and say it has been running since the phone has been awake, like it was never turned off to begin with or the time running would be real low. What apps and other stuff use this service? It seemed before the update, once I killed it, it would NEVER be running.
View 28 Replies View RelatedI think I understand that you need 2 accounts for gmail to get one on the HTC Mail widget. One registered to the phone, which only uses the gmail of the phone. The second allows you to associate it to the widget. My question is, I figure the google account associated to the phone is the one that has gtalk associated with it. Correct? Can you log out of that one and use the 2nd account for gtalk as well? Or are you stuck to only using the google account associated to the phone? The reason I am asking is we use Google Talk at work as our IM service, and would need to use that at times, but also want to be able to turn on my personal one as well.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know this has been discussed before but I just can't seem to fine the answer. I keep getting the notification that Google Talk Authentication Failed. The problem is, because it fails to Sign-In I can't access any menu's in Google Talk to disable it. I go into settings and stop the process and kill the program, but before you know it, it is trying to sign in again. I read somewhere that Google Talk is not available in UK which is probably why it can't sign in anyway.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been having problems with Google Talk on my Desire for 2 days now - I can't start it up. Whenever I click the icon, it shows a black screen for about 1/10 of a second, then goes right back to the home screen. I tried force stopping the app, clearing the cache and the data and restarting my phone and checked to see if there was something wrong with my data connection, but nothing worked.
View 3 Replies View RelatedScrewed up and uninstalled Gtalk inside Titanium. Any ideas how to get it back? Try extracting it from PC36IMG.zip? But how do I extract it as it doesn't seem to be a normal?
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhich protocol Google Talk on Android uses? I know that for the Talk application on Gmail uses the Jabber/XMPP protocol. I need to know what protocol (or if it's the same protocol) that's the protocol being used on port 5228.
The reason being, my organization will open the port to the Android sync and push services but only for that specific protocol (for security purposes obviously).
In Gmail's Google Talk on the computer, if a contact goes offline, you have the option to "continue the conversation via SMS," in which you can chat to someone's phone and the message will send as an SMS to their phone - useful if they go offline.
Is there any way that this can be done on *Android*? I was trying this out with a friend the other day, and normally when you start a chat on Gmail via Gtalk, it will show up on your Android devices in your Google Talk conversations. Unfortunately, when trying to use the chat to SMS function, that doesn't work.
My custom ROM didn't come with Google Talk. I don't want another IM client that can have Google talk on it i want the real thing. I have tried loading talk in system/app but it didn't load. Another time i tried again it came in the app drawer but when i opened it it crashed. I am running salty bean ROM and devil kernel. does this kernel support it or not? I did set the permissions correctly and still no luck.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow to get Google Apps (including Talk) if you are running CM, but trying those methods at the best gave me boot loops (that was when trying to flash the .zip).
I have Maps, Gmail, Google Translate etc installet so I guess I have most of the necessary framework, but trying to just install the Talk.apk for Android 2.3.7 (from the gapps package for CM) didn't work (it didn't even install).
I found that Qik has been modified as part of this update and was running in the background trying to sync vmail and other features. I saw it was active when viewing the Running Services list. There were 2 Qik apps running in the background that I had to FC then reopen the Qik program, sign in, go to Menu/Settings and redo some stuff in there.
Even when hitting the Exit button from Qik those 2 services would still run. The only way, I think, to NOT have them running is to completely sign out of your Qik account and leave it that way. If you want to use Qik then you'd have to sign in again each time. But once you do then those synchronizers run in the background even though you exit.
I noticed on both our EVO's that the battery usage changed quite a bit since yesterday's update which had me scouring through all the settings to see what was up. I discovered the Qik stuff as well as the Sprint Zone settings had be reset to all services/notifications 'on' so I had to switch them off as well.
does anyone really use Google Talk for texting, what are the advantages... if there's any. Why would you use the talk (google/Gmail) App instead of the other texting Apps/programs.
