HTC Incredible :: Google Talk Service Running At Start
May 1, 2010Google talk service starts running as soon as the phone is on, even though the app is closed (with ATK). Anyone know how to prevent it from starting up with the phone? I dont really use gchat on the phone so I dont want it to run unless i open up the app.The same occurs with google voice (which i only have set up for voicemail). This one I dont care too much if its on since at least its useful for voicemail.

Feb 12, 2012this is an issue that I have always noticed but just decided now to create a thread for it as to a question of why Google Maps is running in the background and how can I make it stop? It takes about 5mb of RAM which I care about since I am using a very low memory device, The Motorola Droid 1.

how I can make it stop running in the background? It is confirmed that GPS if off and im not signed in to Latitude or anything like that.

Feb 25, 2010I use Google Latitude with several friends, but have noticed that when I run it in the background, my last know location on the friends phone shows where I "stopped" but never updates. Example: I leave my house with Google Maps/Latitude running and decide I want to listen to DroidLive. Once I switch to DroidLive it appears that Latitude stops broadcasting my locations and my friends see that I'm in the middle of a highway for 30-40 minutes until I kill my music and go back to the maps. Is this a known "bug" or is it something that just doesn't work? I thought that the processes would continue to work, but I might be wrong. I also notice that when launching another app while in Google Maps that my GPS indicator also stops until I get back into the Maps.

May 12, 2010I was wondering if anyone has been using Google Talk exclusively for SMS and ditched their texting w Verizon all together. I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.

I'd like to be able to use Google Talk on my Hero and his BB in lieu of SMS for chatting with him while at work, so that I can turn my phone on Airplane mode with only wifi on to save my battery (signal is terrible in my office)My concern is that I'm not sure if Google Talk is always connected like his BBM seems to be. Jun 15, 2010why I'm not able to sign out of Google Talk? I have 2 Gmail accounts and want to switch over to my other one. I unchecked the automatic sign in box in the settings and forced closed and reopened the program again. When I open it, it automatically signs me into one account. It's extremely annoying. I hope I don't have to do a full reset of the phone because I already have so much stuff on it already, including a lot of personal data. This is something that I just can't get by because I need to start using G Talk now.

May 18, 2010I like chatting within Google Talk, but the thing that is missing from the Android Application is your SMS contacts. I added a few of my family members to my chat as SMS (just their phone numbers), and I can chat with them via chat for me, and SMS for them in any browser. Is it possible to send SMS via Google Talk on Android? I assume it's possible because it's possible on a PC, but why hasn't Google added the support? I guess the carriers wouldn't like it much, but that shouldn't stop Google.

It will be back and running in about 5 minutes and say it has been running since the phone has been awake, like it was never turned off to begin with or the time running would be real low. The second allows you to associate it to the widget.My question is, I figure the google account associated to the phone is the one that has gtalk associated with it. Correct? Can you log out of that one and use the 2nd account for gtalk as well? The problem is, because it fails to Sign-In I can't access any menu's in Google Talk to disable it. I go into settings and stop the process and kill the program, but before you know it, it is trying to sign in again. Whenever I click the icon, it shows a black screen for about 1/10 of a second, then goes right back to the home screen. Dec 31, 2012In Gmail's Google Talk on the computer, if a contact goes offline, you have the option to "continue the conversation via SMS," in which you can chat to someone's phone and the message will send as an SMS to their phone - useful if they go offline.
Is there any way that this can be done on *Android*? I was trying this out with a friend the other day, and normally when you start a chat on Gmail via Gtalk, it will show up on your Android devices in your Google Talk conversations. Unfortunately, when trying to use the chat to SMS function, that doesn't work.

Dec 12, 2012My custom ROM didn't come with Google Talk. I don't want another IM client that can have Google talk on it i want the real thing. I have tried loading talk in system/app but it didn't load. Another time i tried again it came in the app drawer but when i opened it it crashed. I am running salty bean ROM and devil kernel. does this kernel support it or not? I did set the permissions correctly and still no luck.

I have Maps, Gmail, Google Translate etc installet so I guess I have most of the necessary framework, but trying to just install the Talk.apk for Android 2.3.7 (from the gapps package for CM) didn't work (it didn't even install).
HTC EVO 4G :: Froyo Has Qik Running In Background
Aug 3, 2010I found that Qik has been modified as part of this update and was running in the background trying to sync vmail and other features. I saw it was active when viewing the Running Services list. There were 2 Qik apps running in the background that I had to FC then reopen the Qik program, sign in, go to Menu/Settings and redo some stuff in there.
Even when hitting the Exit button from Qik those 2 services would still run. The only way, I think, to NOT have them running is to completely sign out of your Qik account and leave it that way. If you want to use Qik then you'd have to sign in again each time. But once you do then those synchronizers run in the background even though you exit.
I noticed on both our EVO's that the battery usage changed quite a bit since yesterday's update which had me scouring through all the settings to see what was up. I discovered the Qik stuff as well as the Sprint Zone settings had be reset to all services/notifications 'on' so I had to switch them off as well.
