Android :: How To Create View From External XML Source?

Sep 14, 2009

I'm just wondering if I'm able to create a View from an external XML source. As I was reading, you must place the XML layout inside the res/layout and when you compile it, you can load the layout by typing setContentView(R.layouts.my_layout). What if I have this XML layout online (on a website) and I want to create the layout on runtime? Is there any way to do this? Or I have to parse the XML and create the layout (hard-coded)?

Android :: Inflate View From XML Parser Or Other External Source

Jul 27, 2010

I want to dynamically pull in a layout from an external source. As discussed in this thread from September 2009 -
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa.

I am wondering if the situation has changed since this discussion or if it is likely to change. I understand the need to use pre-compiled xml layouts so if there is an option to dynamically pull in a layout that is already compiled that would be fine. Basically I want a setup where I can change a view layout without an app update. The elements within the view would be fairly static (e.g. there will be 2 buttons call foo and bar that fire fooOnClick and barOnClick). The only work around I can think of is a custom scripting language that allows the definition of views that are created from code. Ideally this would parse the same xml as a standard layout. Obviously this would involve a lot of code and probably be fairly slow.

Button btnFoo = new Button(); btnFoo.setText("foo"); dynamicLayout.addView(btnFoo);
If this is the only option at least the EdsMagicLayoutInflater class would be reusable across projects.

All I get when trying to access the picture is an error message saying: "The application Camera (process com.android.camera) has stopped automatically. Please try again." Android :: Images In Web View On Motorola Droid

Oct 19, 2010

I am developing a Java Android application that displays web content from the assets folder in a web view. I had no problem getting this content to display in the application but I am confused as to why my images are not displaying properly. I'm working with a Motorola Droid that is supposed to be 480x854 resolution. When I create banner images using these dimensions and attempt to display them in the web view they're enormous and they flow off of the screen. It doesn't appear that the web view is actually 480x854. Can somebody let me know what I am missing here? I do not know what size to set the images to so they are just right.

Android :: Overlay Images Onto Camera Preview Surface View

Aug 23, 2010

I have a SurfaceView that is being used to draw custom animations and I would like to overlay them onto a live-feed from the phone's camera. Currently, the SurfaceView that contains the animations has a white- background, but if I were to overlay them onto the phone's camera feed, they would have to be transparent. The camera and animation drawing cannot be done on the same SurfaceView. Is it possible to make a SurfaceView transparent? What is the best course to pursue the use of multiple views? My end goal is to essentially overlay the contents of another SurfaceView onto the Camera SurfaceView.

Recently my HTC Desire got damaged but fortunately I had copied and pasted all the data from my HTC Desire to my laptop. I connected my Desire to my Laptop in 'Disk Drive' mode and copy/pasted all contents/folders.

Now my Desire replacement has not yet arrived. Is there anyway I can access my 'Text' messages that were stored on my Desire in my laptop.

Where will I find those text and do I need some external program to open/view them?

Jelly Bean :: How To View Images From DSLR

Sep 30, 2013

I decided to purchase a new camera bag with a section to carry around my Tablet, a Fujitsu M532 running Jelly Bean. The main reason was so that when we're on holidays, I can view the photos on the bigger screen direct from the camera - a Canon EOS 7D and them delete them if I don't like them. I've read some information on the internet and it seemed that I would need to download one of the Apps that also gives you the ability to control the camera from the Tablet; I'm not really bothered about that, but always there if I wanted it. So I downloaded DSLR Controller, and paid my $ 5.94. In theory as soon as you switch on the powered up camera the Tablet should detect it and hey presto. Well mine doesn't, and also if I select the option to search for it, no joy. I have purchased the correct cable converters to get the Tablet's Micro-USB into the Camera's Mini-USB and the cables work fine away from this set-up. I'm assuming that my Tablet is just incompatible, but surely there must be some way around this.

Android : Use Some Kind Of "external ID" For A View?

Dec 19, 2009

I wrote a View class based on ViewSwitcher and now I want to write helper classes for the view like known form the ListView: ListAdapter, ListActivity and so on..

Regarding the activity class I ran into a problem. The ListActivity forces you to add a ListView to your activity with a fixed id: @id/android:list. In my base activity class i want to archive the same, forcing a special id so that my helper classes can access the view object.

As I'm writing a general lib that could be used in various projects I can't use R.id.foobar to get the view as there's no R class. The specific project will an own R.java.

So I peeked at the source code ...

Ok, I could write my on R class, put it directly into my package and try to access it in the same way but I've no clue what value the id should have or need?

Also I couldn't find any R class at android_frameworks_base/core/java/com/android/internal

And even if this problem is solved: How can the user of my lib access "my id" from his layout XML?

General :: Camera Gallery Dims Images After View On Droid RAZR MAXX

Mar 16, 2014

I have a droid raxr maxx with android 4.1.2

Recently I did a bunch of updates and started using google now. My phone performance has been significantly degraded as a result.

My most pressing issue is that after taking a photo, when I go to view it, it shows as normal brightness for 1 second and then gets very dark. This happens for every image as I scroll through them individually. It appears that I now have some sort of editing option or maybe google photos or picassa has hijacked my viewer. When I click on the gallery app this dimming issue does no occur. I am unable to view photos from the camera after taking them.

Android :: Load Images In OpenGL Without Having Thin Outline Appear Around Images?

Nov 2, 2009

I'm basically using the same method of loading bitmaps in OpenGL that the SpriteMethodTest example uses and have been unable to get rid of an annoying outline that appears around all of my images.

For example, If I were to load an image of a white circle on a white background, I would expect to see nothing. Instead, I would see my circle because its edge would be gray. In SpriteMethodTest, I replaced the background image with white and was able to see that the edges of the android images flying around also don't seem to be rendered correctly.

Does anyone know how to load images in OpenGL without having a thin outline appear around the images?

Android :: Adding Some Nine Patch Images Breaks All Of My Other Images

Apr 6, 2010

I'm working to convert some background images to nine patch so they scale better on different phones.
The problem is that if I have the following resource structure: drawable-hdpi/background.png drawable-hdpi/button.png drawable-mdpi/background.png drawable-mdpi/button.png drawable-ldpi/background.png drawable-ldpi/button.png and then I drop a new drawable-hdpi/background.9.png file into the mix, it breaks button.png during the pre-compile. The error is "No resource found that matches the given name (at 'background' with value '@drawable/button').Simply removing that one nine patch file fixes the build. Should I be able to have some nine patch images and some normal ones, or to have nine patch only in hdpi but not mdpi or ldpi? This is Eclipse 3.5.1 with the latest ADT.
