I was planning to make my phone (a rooted SGSII Skyrocket on AT&T running GB) accessible over SSH so I could remote-control it in the event thieves (or my parents) took it. how would I know what my phone's external IP is? Any app that can read the phone's external IP and respond with it via, say, text message?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for an app that'll help me find my phone via GPS without always having to have GPS enabled. I have Wave Secure and it doesn't have an option to turn my GPS on remotely, Lookout Mobile Security is the same way and Where's My Droid app requires GPS to be previously enabled.
The Internet location ability's accuracy within 200-1000ft radius doesn't seem useful if my phones stolen. I don't think walking from door to door, trying to listen in on each house for my alarm would work out too well.
Any app that could turn my GPS on remotely via codeword text or Internet site would be extremely useful.
I use an MHL adaptor to connect my Android device on a HDMI screen.
This is really great but it would be perfect if I could use my PC keyboard and PC mouse to control it.
I tried VNC servers and TeamViewer QuickSupport but the main problem is that I don't see the mouse pointer on my device so it's very difficult to use a mouse when you don't see the pointer ^^

Is there an app that you would install on Tablet to run as service (and so small footprint), then you access a web page from PC or other device over internet, click a button and that takes screenshot of whatever there is on the Tablet with the server installed, downloads it and displays in a window in the browser?
So it doesn't need to stream or allow for remote control, only take screenshot of remote tablet and view it locally.Since ICS has screenshot feature built in, maybe it wouldn't even require root?
I want to use my android device (4G Systems One Tab) to remotely execute a batch file on my PC via WIFI-Connection.
I want to have an Icon on my homescreen and when its clicked the batch-file on the desktop computer is executed. (no feedback or output needed, this is all done by the batch).
Is there a way to remotely view the screen on my Android device? I'm interested in giving training classes to business owners that have smartphones but don't know how powerful they are. It would be very beneficial to me to be able to show them what i'm doing, as I do it, on my computer screen or a projector.

I've seen some older hacks that are resistance hardware touch screens that are more hardware. I'm wondering if this is remotely possible in the newer version of android like ICS on the Xoom.

I am able to browse to it using Root Explorer and select to Copy it, but how do I PASTE it onto the external SD card when Root Explorer only accesses the device directory and not the external SD card?
Quick 2nd question: I know on some previous devices such as the Galaxy S 4G you were *not* supposed to run Clockworkmod after booting in and from the Apps Drawer, instead you were only supposed to run directly from the startup screen before booting in. Is it OK to actually start the Clockwork Backup/Restore process from the Apps Drawer of the Galaxy S4 and let it reboot and do its thing or is it only supposed to be run BEFORE booting in?
I noticed the youtube news yesterday about its new mobile site, but when i log onto the stock EVO internet browser and Dolphin HD, it looks nothing like the site in the video and still asks me if I want to use HTC Flash Player or Youtube app to play the video.Also it seems to only choose HTC Flash Player now, how do I reset the defaults for this?

I know we get the Android MLB At Bat app which gives you audio to all games, which isn't bad for $15 bucks for the season, and for me it's worked well... But the Ipod gets video in their At Bat app if your an MLB.TV subscriber. And I just wanted to know if anyone tried to just use our browser to get the games in the same fashion one might on a pc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I first ran across PhoneGap, I was excited because I envisioned simply dropping in the URL of a mobile site and simply updating the mobile site to use the devices capabilities when available.
Alas, it seems it is not that easy.
From what I understand (and I could be incorrect), any HTML/JS access to the device's hardware is limited to local 'pages'. So essentially create a HTML/JS local 'web' app to access the 'real' mobile web app by AJAX like calls. It seems a little redundant (at least to me) when the point is to simply extend the interface an existing mobile site.
Not trying to knock PhoneGap here, just wondering if there's a similar framework that allows a remote site to access the phone's hardware directly. Or if I've missed how that can be done with PhoneGap.
(Sure, I know "allows a remote site to access the phone's hardware directly" sounds scary - but the URL is hard-coded in the app, and HTTPS could provide authenticity. Of course, security is probably why this isn't supported by PhoneGap.)
I am looking for a way to remote desktop my android phone (atrix) from my honeycomb tablet. Preferably over LAN, as I only really do it at home but not really close enough for bluetooth, however with bluetooth I could make do. Something like what the atrix can do with the dock.

I found a lot of apps (and Desktop programs) to do it, but I didn't found a way to View OR control the Android device WITHOUT ROOT. As I was reading, you must place the XML layout inside the res/layout and when you compile it, you can load the layout by typing setContentView(R.layouts.my_layout). What if I have this XML layout online (on a website) and I want to create the layout on runtime? Is there any way to do this? Or I have to parse the XML and create the layout (hard-coded)?

We have a device that has binary data that it needs to send out (they are mainly just symbols, but in a custom binary format) over ethernet. I need to intercept this data on the phone and display the symbols over google maps. I'm just wondering the best way to go about this, I have a few ideas but am not sure if they are possible or feasable: 1. Is it possible for the phone to connect directly to the device if the device had some sort of server running on it, then poll for new data? If so, what is the protocol needed to be able to direct connect like that? 2. Perhaps modify the device software to send data to the phone(s) in SMS data message format? Im not sure if it is possible for software to "spoof" an SMS to a phone when it is not a phone itself? 3. Have the device software upload all its binary data to a ftp/http server that is sitting out there somewhere, have the phone(s) connect to that server and poll for new data periodically? I'm brand new to android development, basically all I want to do is grab this binary data from the device on my phone and parse/display it over google maps. How do any of those ideas sound, or is there a much easier way I am overlooking?

I am wondering if the situation has changed since this discussion or if it is likely to change. I understand the need to use pre-compiled xml layouts so if there is an option to dynamically pull in a layout that is already compiled that would be fine. Basically I want a setup where I can change a view layout without an app update. The elements within the view would be fairly static (e.g. there will be 2 buttons call foo and bar that fire fooOnClick and barOnClick). The only work around I can think of is a custom scripting language that allows the definition of views that are created from code. Ideally this would parse the same xml as a standard layout. Obviously this would involve a lot of code and probably be fairly slow.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently my HTC Desire got damaged but fortunately I had copied and pasted all the data from my HTC Desire to my laptop. I connected my Desire to my Laptop in 'Disk Drive' mode and copy/pasted all contents/folders.
Now my Desire replacement has not yet arrived. Is there anyway I can access my 'Text' messages that were stored on my Desire in my laptop.
Where will I find those text and do I need some external program to open/view them?
