I'm successfully getting these poll results to the eyes of Samsung support, in order to disprove assumptions they are having about the effectiveness of their "fixes". This poll assumes you are/were experiencing GPS issues. If you are not, there's no reason to vote.

Why a Froyo factory reset really isn't (plus, a fix for upgrade issues) | Android Central Its in reference to the X but I am going to factory reset tonight and see what happens."If you're one of those folks who is less than pleased with your Droid X after the Froyo update, this one's for you. Android Central Forums member Fabrian was at wit's end, and even talked of ditching his X (blasphemy!) because of the random bugs, general weirdness, and plain old unsatisfactory performance of his unit since the update. His last-ditch effort and ingenuity seems to have paid off. The secret? He has completely disabled the Froyo feature that restores data from previous installs. It's really just a matter of turning off the automatic restore feature before logging back into your Google account. It's a little odd that "Automatic Restore" is still checked by default, even when "Back up my data" isn't, but there you go.The method isn't too painful and does require one more factory reset, but the payoff appears to be a much smoother experience. Makes sense, too restoring data from Eclair to Froyo probably isn't a very good idea even if it is convenient.
We've verified it here, a hard reset in Froyo isn't really a hard reset, as things come back by themselves. Follow Fabrian's instructions, and you will have a pristine Froyo installation on your Droid X (or Nexus One -- Sense on Froyo has no setting for this that we could find). Any troublemaking leftovers will be no more, and won't get downloaded and installed automatically again. If you're being plagued with myriad tiny bugs in your Droid X after the update, give it a try! [Android Central Forums] Thanks Fabrian, nice sleuthing!"
So a while back, I used adb to put android 4.4 kitkat onto my Nexus 4 (unrooted) for the first time. Normally I would wait for OTA updates but not in this case. So, when I did that the google play store wasn't working. I was annoyed, and went to loads of forums and every time I posted a thread I would get no response. Google customer support's only advice was to factory reset. So I waited a few weeks until recently when the 4.4.2 update came out, so I tried installing it and there was an error. After even more posting to forums, and still no responses (strangely they were all active forums) I just now had to do a factory reset. However, I can't sign into google (it says that there was a problem communicating with Google servers and to try again later, and when I press next the message repeats infinitely until I press the home button.) and also my google play services are apparently incompatible with my device?
View 2 Replies View RelatedLong time Droid user, brand new to the Fascinate Forum. I just bought my wife a Samsung Fascinate and I have to say the thing is absolutely phenomenal! It makes my Motorola Droid look like a 1990's flip phone!! Except for one problem the darned thing has been automatically spontaneously performing a factory reset / hard reset on itself. And it is happening at completely random times. You're sitting there playing a game, you're reading your e-mail or you just pushed the screen ON / power button to wake the phone up and unlock it and then, all of a sudden The phone reboots to the black and white Samsung startup screen, then recovery pops up and yellow writing appears that says "Formatting FOTA:", "Formatting DATA:", "Formatting CACHE:". Then the phone reboots again and comes up like you just pulled it out of the box; a full factory reset / hard reset. The contents of the SD card are thankfully fine.Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to turn on some sort of logging so that maybe I can figure out what causes it? This is now the second phone that this is happening to. We took the first phone back to Verizon the very same day we got it and they swapped it out right there for another brand new one. The second phone behaved perfectly for three whole days before it went and wiped itself. We thought for sure that the problem was with the first phone, but now it is happening with the second phone.I am going to start from scratch again, adding one app at a time making sure the thing continues to work. But there weren't any apps on the device in the first place that were really out of the ordinary.- Gmail POP3 Yahoo- Corporate E-Mail to Microsoft Exchange Server (No, it wasn't the Exchange Admin sending a kill package, I'm the Exchange Admin)
- Angry Birds
- Robodefense
- Facebook
- Beautiful Widgets
- Cal Widget
- Google Maps
- Pandora
I have all of those apps and more on my Motorola Droid (also connected to the same Exchange Server) and my device is behaving just fine.I'm trying to think of reasons this might happen and I'm drawing a complete blank.
When I synced my google calendar/imported the outlook calendar, the 'recurring' appts when individually and so I need to start all over again! UGH. I tried to remove my gmail acct and it said that I have to do a factory reset. So, how do I do this. I am so frustrated. I am a busy/working mom and my calendar keeps me up todate on appointments.
View 3 Replies View RelatedTo all that have received the 1.6 update I want to make a note that if you ever do a Master Reset the touch screen WILL NOT work until you either pull the battery or power down and power this POS back on. Maybe it's my phone I won't know until I receive a replacement due to the fact that the camera firmware gives me an error.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHere is the process as I keep reading in threads on peeps asking how to do it, maybe a Mod can sticky this for all to view when needed A master reset restores the original factory settings and will erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, contacts stored in the handset memory, etc. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available). Back up all necessary data on the device memory before proceeding.
Menu Path Method:
1. From the Home screen, press the Menu Button and select Settings.
2. Select Security.
3. Select Factory data reset.
4. Select Reset phone.
5. Select Erase everything.
6. The device will dump all of the data and reload.
Key Stroke Method
1. Power the device OFF.
2. Press and hold the HOME and Back Arrow buttons. While holding these buttons, press the End Call button once.Release the Home and Back Arrow buttons and press the Trackball to execute the Hard Reset.
3. The device will reboot once the process is complete.
What will a master reset do to my rooted droid? I am having problems with either the camera or gallery and the motorola folks recommended a master reset but I am a bit leary of what it will do to my rooted droid.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOkay so I know about the regular master reset process through the phone, and I also know about the master reset through the PC Companion. I have locked myself out of the phone with the pattern lock, and when it asks for the Google account it will not accept my username and password. I have reset the password through Google and still nothing. I tried to perform the master reset through PC Companion but when I get to the update screen it says internet connection failed. I have called the internet provider and they could not fix the issue. I just don't feel like having to send the phone off to SE because I really don't trust it at all. If anyone knows an alternate method of performing a master reset on the SE Xperia X10a please let me know.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am currently running a rooted Samsung Captivate. I have not flashed it or anything and am still running 2.1 with the firmware update (JH7). I rooted to get rid of AT&Ts bloatware which I did using System App remover. With Froyo on the way, I was wondering if a master reset would turn it back to stock (minus AT&T bloatware) and enable OTA updates again?

My brother bought his phone the same time I did, and he's not having any of these problems. I am wondering how do I reset it? maybe and hopefully I wont have as much problems with it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI find that my battery progressively gets worse and worse until I'll ultimately doing a factor reset and it fixes it. It really doesn't make sense to me. I don't use very few applications. The thing is it's always a downward progression. This is the 4th time I've done a factory reset and I will get 16-24 hours no problem. But the last week I've been getting 6-8 hours. It does this everytime, just gets progressively worse until I reset it and it's fine again. It really does only take me about 15 minutes to completely factory reset my phone and getting it back to the exact working condition as before though so that's not bad. This is not a "oh I haven't charged my phone it 37 hours nananan" threads or any other battery life battle. Just want to see if anyone else has noticed this.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHow you factory reset the DHD. Have been having a few probs with the phone, that cannot seem to sort and neither could Orange, so am thinking of just resetting back and starting again.
The prob for information, if anyone can sort this. Is that I have one contact on my phone, that when I send a message to them, sometimes I get a text response back from the Orange 177 service, saying that they could not understand my request. Have spoken to Orange, and they say they have removed the 177 service, but, am still getting the message. When I do get the 177 message back, the actual recipient does not receive the message and I have to resend again
This particular contact on their FB account did have their number starting 1775..... rather than either 44 or just the standard 0 ... so I think it is getting confused, however, that number has been removed from FB, I deleted all traces of this contact and even deleted the FB account from my friends list ... then added them all back in to FB and into the phone .... although, am still getting this 177 response ... but it is not always, and on my bill there is no sign of the number being texted.
I got my Incredible last week and a few days later I got the OTA installation for Froyo. Since installing my phone has been a little sluggish and the battery life isn't as good as 2.1. I'm considering doing a factory reset since that's what has helped some people. A few questions though:
1) How do I do a factory reset?
2) Will doing a factory reset bring my phone back to 2.1 or 22?
3) How do I back up the apps I've downloaded? Specifically the PAID ones. Will I have to pay again for them?
I just got my evo and downloaded froyo pretty much right away. I want to do a factory reset, but that will cause me to lose everything, including my contacts, right? I tried syncing my contacts to my gmail account but they are not showing up when I log in to gmail on my computer. Is there something special I need to do when I log in to gmail to get my contacts? Or is it as simple as just clicking on contacts once you sync them from your Evo?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm have a some minor things that are not right and I'm wondering if a Factory Reset would help or be worth it.
1. keep syncing phone book over 3g (even if on wifi) sometimes 3 or 4 time in a 5 min span and even if background sync is off
2. random power downs
3. no market update (is this something I need to do manually?)
4. Sometimes 3g and wifi on at the same time.
I know there was a bulletin on not to do it if you had 2.1, but I was rooted using SS4.6. I had switched ROMs, between about three of them the past week, and didn't do a full wipe, just to be safe. But the phone was starting to get real slow, regardless of the ROM, so I just did a factory reset using Clockwork Recovery and now I don't seem to be getting 3G anymore. I can still get data, just at 1X. It'll say "3G" when idle, but once I'm browsing, it bumps down to 1X again. This couldn't possibly be what was suggested not to do for 2.1 owners, was it? Despite being on 2.2?
