Android :: Does HTC Stock Email App Support Exchange Push?

Jul 11, 2010

I know this has been talked about a lot in these forums, but I don't see any proof one way or the other. Some people say that the only way to get push notifications is to use the gmail app or a 3rd party app, and some people say you can use the stock HTC app and set things up through Exchange. Then some more people say that even setting it up through Exchange is a "pull" account as well, not push. However, what I don't see is hard core proof to back any of this up. I would imagine that there is documentation out there somewhere of what exactly is driving the email collection in the HTC Sense email app, and whether or not it is different for Exchange accounts.

HTC EVO 4G :: Android And Exchange ActiveSync Push Email

Jun 14, 2010

I'm one who has not bought into all the iPhone and ipad Apple hype. And now that AT&T announced they would limit there data plans I'm even less of a fan.

So I've been using my corporate Blackberry.. I rarely surf on the phone - if ever to just use it to quickly prove a point or get some basic GPS navigation. Basically I use it as a phone, email device and calendar. Occasionaly to take a picture too.

I've not been too excited to change until now.

I understand the Evo can be used as a mobile hotspot at 4g? WOW! Anybody using it to serve wifi for a PS3 online game from it ? does it really work?

What about corporate push email? Will it work with Exchange ActiveSync to keep my Outlook email and calendars current on the phone? What about Gmail and yahoo push email? Will pushing emails from these three servers drain my battery?

How widespread is the Sprint 4g network? Any chance of getting 4g in places like Gainesville, FL, Macon, GA, Helen, Georgia?

Android :: How Exchange ActiveSync A Push Email Client

Aug 26, 2010

I was just tinkering with my Droid Incredible's "Accounts & Sync" and I am confused about something. With the Gmail app, there is no option to designate how often to check do for messages because it's a push email client, good. But when I check my settings for Exchange, I am given options to select how often to sync. I was under the impression that Exchange ActiveSync is a push email service, meaning I shouldn't need to designate when I want it to sync because it pushes vs. pulling. Am I missing something here?

I am running 2.2 froyo under SkyRaider 2.5

Motorola Droid X :: Push Email Issues On Exchange

Oct 11, 2010

I have a Droid X that is upgraded to 2.2 but I noticed this weekend that I didn't receive emails on Saturday until I pinged the server on Sunday night. When I was on 2.1 this wasn't an issue and I'm noticing now it is.

Settings right now are:

Data Delivery:
1. Background data is OFF
2. Email and Corp Sync: Data Push

Battery Manager:
1. Now in Performance mode, I turned off Custom this morning.

I might have solved my own problem by changing to "Performance Mode".

Samsung Captivate :: Stock Email Not Showing - Automatic - Push - As An Option

Dec 1, 2010

I was able to successfully configure the stock email app on my android phone (Samsung Captivate). However when I went to "Email check frequency" in the settings to enable push, it did not allow me to do so. According to Android, there is an option in this setting called "Automatic (push)" other than polling options. In my case I just had polling options like "5 mts", "10 mts", "Never", and so on. But I don't have the "automatic push" option!

I checked in with my system admin. He said that they have enabled push from their end. In fact, we are on the corporate email of Google apps. So it is like a gmail except that it has my corporate email address. So this should have been a piece of cake, no?

Motorola Droid :: Applications For Stock Email Program With Exchange

Dec 14, 2009

Does anyone know of a 3rd party app that can be used to search the stock email program on the Droid? Through research have found that it is not possible within the app itself, but was not sure if anyone know of an app that allows you to search by recipient, size, date, etc? Coming from a blackberry, that is one of my most missed features.

General :: Unable To Configure 2 Exchange Accounts In Stock Email Client

Jun 6, 2012

I have a Galaxy Nexus with Stock 4.0.4 ROM and a Transformer Prime also with the stock ASUS firmware (4.0.3), The company where I work has a mail server that supports exchange (Kerio Connect) At that server I have (because I need it that way) 2 different accounts, I need one of those accounts to synchronize everything; contacts, mail, calendar, and the other one to synchronize only calendar appointments.

If I configure the first account everything works just fine. But, when I configure the second account, I start receiving login errors for both accounts every certain time, the apps shows me the option to update my account credentials and when I do it works for the moment but after a while it fails again. If I delete whichever of the two accounts the other works fine.

I have not tested this scenario against other email servers, so I'm not sure if this a problem with my server or if this is an Android problem.

Both accounts are configured as Exchange accounts from Settings menu.

Nexus :: MS Exchange - Push Or Pre-Set Time

Jul 8, 2010

Out of curiosity is there any battery savings (or other inherent savings) in using a pre-set time to check Exchange email vs. Push? For example my corporate email is Exchange and my BlackBerry is set to push; on my N1 I have it set-up to check every 10 minutes. Would using Push decrease my battery life? Decrease my RAM? Any other downsides?

On the flip side - are there any advantages to enabling Push?

HTC Desire :: Exchange Push Mail When Roaming

Jul 19, 2010

I am currently roaming outside my home network in the UK and cannot get Exchange Server to automatically synch. I have read countless posts on this forum and elsewhere trying to self-help before posting, but despite this one appearing to be the same issue, I have been unable to fix it.

In essence when opening Menu > Settings > Accounts & Synch > Manage Accounts / Exchange Active Sync > Account Settings I see that the option for "Sync when roaming" is not only unticked but also greyed out so I cannot enable it.

How can I fix this, please?

Note that Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile Networks > Data roaming is ticked and so is ... > Enable always-on mobile data.

I am currently on an Edge network and manual Exchange Synch works just fine but having automatic sync is more important right now that worrying about the roaming charge.

I have a strange problem with Push email on my HTC Desire. I can set this up no problem - email comes in but only manually. I cannot get the push to actually work. When I go into the send receive schedule I can set up the days/hours for peak off peak and push but regardless of what I set these to be, when I go back to the previous screen it always says the Schedule is Manual. I've tried setting up lots of variations from manual through timed to push but still the same. Net result is push never seems to happen - manual overrides my schedule. To pick up email I have to go into email and do a manual sync.

Android :: ID Exchange Support Error

Mar 29, 2010

I've done a bit of searching to find out whether or not any current Android phone from any US carrier (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile) can natively pull in mail, contacts, and calendar events from an exchange server. my head is spinning, doesn't seem like anyone has a clear cut answer. some things work some don't.It seems the consensus is:email - yes but no subfolders contacts - yes? calendar - sometimes Is this list accurate or am i way off base? My issue is that I need to find out if we can allow users at the office buy Android phones, the stipulation is that mail, contacts, and calendar events must sync with Exchange 2007. needs to be done natively. Can any US Andoid-based phone do this? If Yes, what US phone or Android version will do these things? There was this post but no one replied:Android 2.x - Realistic Exchange Support?

Android :: 2.x - Realistic Exchange Support?

Mar 13, 2010

We just got two Motorola Droid phones to play with here at the office and have a few questions about what others are seeing in regards to Exchange/ActiveSync support. These are both on Verizon and have been tested with WiFi and 3G- issue is present on both networks.First of all, initial setup and sync works fine on our Exchange 2007 SP2 system. After that however things start to go down hill. One of the big problems we've been seeing on these units is that the stock email client seems to randomly stop syncing emails with no failure or other error message visible in the client.Dropped by #android-dev and got some instructions for turning debugging on and ended up finding this in the logs:
03-11 20:12:32.647 D/Inbox(Exchange)( 1615): sync, sending Email syncKey: 40
03-11 20:12:33.320 V/EasParser( 1615): Class: Email
03-11 20:12:33.320 V/EasParser( 1615): SyncKey: 40
03-11 20:12:33.327 D/Inbox(Exchange)( 1615): Parsed key for Inbox: 40
03-11 20:12:33.327 D/Inbox(Exchange)( 1615): !! SyncKey hasn't changed, setting moreAvailable = false
03-11 20:12:33.381 D/Inbox(Exchange)( 1615): Inbox SyncKey saved as: 40
03-11 20:12:33.389 D/Inbox(Exchange)( 1615): Returning moreAvailable = false
03-11 20:12:33.389 D/Inbox(Exchange)( 1615): Sync finished
Obviously Android doesn't think anything's changed on the Exchange server even though there are three new messages visible in OWA. None of our other device users (Win Mobile / iPhone / etc) have reported any problems with ActiveSync.I ran a query on the server and noticed that we have a bunch of users running the following ActiveSync implementation:
TouchDown(MSRPC)/5.1.0026
Moxier-Android/1.0
Android-EAS/0.1 (HTC Client presumably?)
Our stock phones show as Android/0.3. My question is- has anyone else had similar issues? Does TouchDown fix all of this and work reliably for corporate users? I'm rather shocked that Verizon is marketing these as the be-all-end-all phone with Exchange support but we tend to think of email as a rather basic necessity for a smartphone. Any Nexus One users have issues on 2.1? (I wonder if it's specific to the Motorola build- I assume the Nexus One would use the same stock email client)

Motorola Droid 2 :: Corporate Outlook / Exchange Sync - Push

Sep 10, 2010

I just got my D2 the other day and have it all setup, but something I've noticed differently from the D1 is that all my Outlook/Exchange e-mails take 5-10 minutes to be delivered even with the Push feature turned on. On the Droid 1, the messages were delivered instantly ometimes even before they arrived in my Outlook client at my desk.

I have it setup as a Corporate Sync account with all the same settings, but I feel like they have taken a step backwards with the Corporate Sync settings. I'm running 2.2.20 (rooted of course), but it's just a hit or miss when the messages come in. I did call VZW's tech line and the lady on the phone said there was some memo about this issue. She didn't mention if there was a work around, or if a fix is coming. It's almost as if the Sync button doesn't do anything.

Samsung Epic 4G :: Gmail Exchange Activesync Push Configuration

Sep 28, 2010

On Epic Android 2.1

Just yesterday I configured my primary gmail email on a Samsung Epic using Exchange activesync.. It was working and syncing very fast. Except for some VERY IMPORTANT missing features : Default send From, Send From dropdown for all emails in my gmail account and Reply From the original recipent - I was at least happy to get push gmail.

However, today, in an attemp to find some way to send emails as my other domains on the gmail account I deleted that gmail account from the Phone and attempted to configure the secondary account via ActiveSync with something like googleme@mydomain.com... when that did not work (got loading message at the end and it never came back), I presumed you can't do that.. but now I can't even add the orignal gmail acccount back in with Exchange activesync. Same endless loading message ???

so I gave up and let it automatically add gmail account - smtp with 30 minute get sync. Errr.

Did I break something? I'm still able to authenticate into my google account as the gmail primary and the secondaries from the web.

Did I change something on the googl eacoount to cause this? I did add a 3rd email and also made it the default send as on the web client - though that has no bearing on the Android email client.

2. can I sync contacts from Exchange over the air? I mean that new contacts will be pushed into my phone, without manual or timed syncing.

3. I see there are some issues with SSL or password policy when connecting to exchange. Are those still valid?

4. Can I log into a Google Apps account, instead of a regular Google account?

Android :: Does Android Support Near Real Time Push Notification

Aug 7, 2009

I recently learned about the ability of iPhone apps to receive nearly instantaneous notifications to apps. This is provided in the form of push notifications, a bespoke protocol which keeps an always on data connection to the iPhone and messages binary packets to the app, which pops up alerts incredibly quickly, between 0.5 - 5 seconds from server app send to phone app response time. This is sent as data - rather than SMS - in very very small packets charged as part of the data plan not as incoming messages. I would like to know if using Android there is either a similar facility, or whether it's possible to implement something close to this using Android APIs. To clarify I define similar as: Not an SMS message, but some data driven solution As real time as is possible Is scalable - ie: as the server part of a mobile app, I could notify thousands of app instances in seconds I appreciate the app could be pull based, HTTP request/response style, but ideally I don't want to to be polling that heavily just to check for notification .. besides which it's like drip draining the data plan.
