I've decided to purchase my first non nokia phone, which will also be my first smart phone in the next couple of weeks! I just want to know, where do you get applications from? How easy is this phone to do things with? I've seen the thread "show us your homepages" and I haven't got a clue how any of this works. If there are any manuals I could read, please point me in the right direction.

I am a new android user. I am a new smart phone user. I used to just use a cell phone for calls and texts. Where do I start? What applications do I absolutely need? There are a few applications that are already on the phone that I'll never use (like twitter). I can't seem to get rid of them (do I need to?) What does the kill applications task manager do?

One approach I know of is to take could take their username and password in a android view, and use the clientLogin interface (http://code.google.com/apis/accounts/docs/AuthForInstalledApps.html). However I was wondering if there was a different approach, maybe pushing to a browser window where it would show the google login for that domain, but I would not know how to get the details back to the application, after the authentication is done.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am searching an application that allows me to backup the .apk files of both user and system applications like AppWererabbit (http:url...). The problem is that i need this app to be compatible with android versions below 4.0, i.e. android 2.3.X.
I have already installed titanium backup on my phone, but i miss the ability to set an automatic .apk backup when each system/user app is updated. I think that to keep .apk files of older versions of the same app could be usefull.
I have galaxy s4 mini (GT19195 , 4.2.2).
the problem is that i can't upload/download anything through all the applications that i install (WhatsApp,Facebook,foursquare...). Everytime that i try to upolad or download an item it always fail.
i noticed that the folders by Default created with those applications are not there from the beginning so i tried to create them manually but it didn't work.
i removed the external sd card so that i can install the applications directly in the internal sd card but no thing changed.
Maybe if i root my phone it will work but it doesn't resolve the situation.
one important thing that i notice is that the application installed with the system (not the new ones) like gmail give me the possibility to upload/download without a problem.
i tried to move the new applications to the folder /system/app in order to be executed the same way as the system applications but no change.
I'm getting my first Android device anytime now (FedEx says "out for delivery"). It's the HTC Droid Eris. I've been a huge Google user for years and became frustrated with how difficult it is to work on Windows Mobile. I have a few basic questions.
1. I want to use Push E-Mail/Calendar/Contacts, etc. With this phone? Can someone please explain the set-up process to me.
2. I had trouble with my Samsung Omnia and Google Latitude. It would 20+ minutes to get the GPS information and I had to keep Google Maps on the screen or it would stop using GPS. This function has become very important for me when I travel. Am I going to encounter these same issues with the Eris?
3. I would also like to have a chat client which uses push and can work with FB, GTalk, AIM, and MSN. Is eBuddy the way to go?
4. Twitter Application, I'd like to have an application that will put new tweets on my home page. I'd also like to have an app in which I can post tweets (preferably with the option to post locations). What is the best twitter application?

It's no secret that Google's Android Market is far easier to penetrate than Apple's App Store, which is most definitely a double-edged sword. On one hand, you aren't stuck waiting a lifetime for Apple to approve a perfectly sound app; on the other, you may end up accidentally downloading some Nazi themes that scar you for life. A curious team of scientists from Intel Labs, Penn State and Duke University recently utilized a so-called TaintDroid extension in order to log and monitor the actions of 30 Android apps -- 30 that were picked from the 358 most popular. Their findings? That half of their sample (15, if you're rusty in the math department) shared location information and / or other unique identifiers (IMEI numbers, phone numbers, SIM numbers, etc.) with advertisers. Making matters worse, those 15 didn't actually inform end-users that data was being shared, and some of 'em beamed out information while applications were dormant. Unfortunately for us all, the researchers didn't bother to rat out the 15 evil apps mentioned here, so good luck resting easy knowing that your library of popular apps could be spying on you right now.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed ultimatejuice, and i am slowly getting the hang of it. however, its not exactly self explanitery in use at times.I am sure i read somewhere (no idea where though, i just remember seeing it and deciding i wanted that app!), that someone had set it up so that when the phone was plugged into the usb charger (i.e. computer or car charger), then bluetooth would be turned on. but when it was unplugged or plugged into the wall, bluetooth was turned off.i am 99% sure that juicedefender was the app he used for it, but i cant work out how to do it.so, im wondering if its because i cant work out how to use the app, or if i have the wrong app?and even if i do have the wrong app, has someone come up with some sort of simplified user guide for it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI do not have the option for "User Dictionary" when I press the settings key (button that looks like a gear at the bottom left of keyboard). I think its because of my location. I'm from Singapore and the keyboard that comes with it is a "CN Thai Keyboard". The settings button has a "abc" or "<chinese character>" below the "gear" symbol that toggles between chinese or english input when pressed. If held, some chinese input entry method options appear. No sight of an option to edit my user dictionary.
I want to edit the dictionary to remove wrongly spelled words I accidentally entered. I know the majority of you guys have another keyboard that came with your phone, and prob don't have this problem, but just wondering if someone from this forum might know..
Is there any way to add a list of words to the User Dictionary without taking them one by one?
I saw the User Dictionary Manager on the market which would had been GREAT but it doesn't work on HTC Desire (and a few other HTCs). Any suggestions?

All the apps I have downloaded to my Pulse are backed up onto my SD card. Can I just pop my card into my new Desire and use Astro (or some such thing) to copy them all or do I need to start again from scratch?

It appears that it only wants to download some applications with most kicking back a "Download Unsuccessful" including some that I have purchased before.
I am running 2.1 -update 1 right out of the box software number 1.19.161.5
I've tried a factory reset with still no avail.
I'm trying to download it using my wireless router which I'm sitting right beside so signal is no problem.
The last update to File Manager included an applications manager too. It enables you to backup* and uninstall applications.
On the applications list 'Maps' is in there twice, both 4.3.0 installed on 2010-07-06 and both 4102KB. Would I actually have two copies installed? I'm not that keen on the idea of uninstalling one to find out for obvious reasons! this seems to put them onto the SD card which is quite useful
When i press the button to get up all the applications in a tile veiw is there anyway i can remove certain things from here without deleting them, or atleast put them in a folder?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have some 80MB left on the phones memory, I have downloaded a lot of apps, tried them and deleted most of them (but far from all). There are still a lot of apps I would like to DL and try out, but before doing that I would like to move as much as possible to the SD card, it says I have 3.67 GB available, so plenty of room. However When I go to Applications--> Manage Applications the ption to move them to the SD card is grayed out and the option is not available to me. What do I need to do to turn it on?
