Android :: Authenticate Of Google Applications If User Is Using?

Feb 10, 2010

way I can Authenticate a Google Apps User in a Android Application? One approach I know of is to take could take their username and password in a android view, and use the clientLogin interface (http://code.google.com/apis/accounts/docs/AuthForInstalledApps.html). However I was wondering if there was a different approach, maybe pushing to a browser window where it would show the google login for that domain, but I would not know how to get the details back to the application, after the authentication is done.

Android :: Easy Way To Authenticate POST Requests / From Google Android Client To Google App Engine?

Jul 9, 2009

I'd like to be able to send a POST request from an Android app to App Engine and have it linked to the user's Google account.I read that you need to obtain an authentication token and send it with the POST request. Does Android provide a way to request this token? And how would GAE process it?I feel like this should be easy and I'm missing something obvious.

Android :: Official Way To Authenticate For Google Data API On Android Using AccountManager Accounts?

Aug 16, 2010

I'm trying to use the Google Data API for an installed application on Android 2.1. I don't want the user to have to enter their credentials if he already has an account configured on the device. Thus, I'm using the AccountManager with Account type "com.google".

But where to go from there? There are no samples from Google on how to do Google authentication (authTokenType etc.). There's a project trying to do it (http://code.google.com/p/google-authenticator-for-android) in a general way but without any success, yet.

This is really keeping back applications like Google Reader clients which have to ask the user for their Google credentials (which hopefully nobody gives them).

Android :: How To Authenticate Mobile App Without Username And Password?

Sep 8, 2010

I'm building a Webapp that uses OpenId to authenticate users, like Stackoverlfow does. There will be a mobile App too, e.g. Android or iPhone. These Apps have to authenticate or login somehow, to access data and update stuff that belongs to the user. Since there is no username and password one could provide to authenticate the mobile device, I wonder how to achieve this. Two ways came into my mind:Generate some key on the server that must be entered on the device. This key will be send as auth-key when the mobile device sends or requests data and the user can be linked that way. When using this Option, the key should be transported somehow to the user, so he doesn't have to type it in. Maybe via email, SMS or by scanning a barcode. The mobile App uses the Browser or shows an integrated Web-Panel that opens a special page of the Webapp. On this page, the user has to login in, and could then allow the mobile App to read and write data. My question is: Are both ways possible and save? Which one would you prefer? What are the details to watch out for? Are there any other ways to do this? If I got it all right, it would not be possible to use OpenId on the Device, and link the mobile and the webapp that way, right?

Android :: Authenticate To REST Web Service From Droid App?

Sep 24, 2010

I need to pull data from a REST web service in my android app. The web service requires authentication.
I need to first call a login method, which will return me an authToken and JSESSIONID as part of the response header. I need to pass these items back with every request. I'm currently using: org.apache.http.impl.client.DefaultHttpClient.DefaultHttpClient() to call the login method. I can see the authToken and JSESSIONID are being returned in the response header.
Are there any existing tools or classes that might provide some sort of management functionality that I can easily integrate with my android app?

I have already installed titanium backup on my phone, but i miss the ability to set an automatic .apk backup when each system/user app is updated. I think that to keep .apk files of older versions of the same app could be usefull.

General :: 802.1x On JB 4.1.1 - Can't Authenticate Using TTLS / PAP

Aug 2, 2012

I am having an issue ever since Jellybean came out. I was running my Galaxy nexus happily all the way from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4 with no problems connecting to my workplace's 802.1x network using TTLS and PAP for phase 1 and 2 authentication, respectively.

As soon as I put a JB 4.1.1 ROM on it, it doesn't work. It still sees the network, and it correctly displays that it is secured with 802.1x. However, whenever I try to authenticate, after trying to connect a few times, it just reverts to being an inactive saved network or comes up saying "Authentication problem".

I would have chalked this up to having simply installed an early ROM, but then I went out and bought a Nexus 7, and lo and behold, it has the same issue! I have taken about 10 different posted versions of the wpa_supplicant file and put them in /system/bin with proper permissions, but no dice.

Jelly Bean :: Can't Upload / Download Items From User Applications

Apr 3, 2014

I have galaxy s4 mini (GT19195 , 4.2.2).

the problem is that i can't upload/download anything through all the applications that i install (WhatsApp,Facebook,foursquare...). Everytime that i try to upolad or download an item it always fail.

i noticed that the folders by Default created with those applications are not there from the beginning so i tried to create them manually but it didn't work.

i removed the external sd card so that i can install the applications directly in the internal sd card but no thing changed.

Maybe if i root my phone it will work but it doesn't resolve the situation.

one important thing that i notice is that the application installed with the system (not the new ones) like gmail give me the possibility to upload/download without a problem.

i tried to move the new applications to the folder /system/app in order to be executed the same way as the system applications but no change.

HTC Droid Eris :: New User / Setup Process For Email Client And Net Applications

Jul 26, 2010

I'm getting my first Android device anytime now (FedEx says "out for delivery"). It's the HTC Droid Eris. I've been a huge Google user for years and became frustrated with how difficult it is to work on Windows Mobile. I have a few basic questions.

1. I want to use Push E-Mail/Calendar/Contacts, etc. With this phone? Can someone please explain the set-up process to me.
2. I had trouble with my Samsung Omnia and Google Latitude. It would 20+ minutes to get the GPS information and I had to keep Google Maps on the screen or it would stop using GPS. This function has become very important for me when I travel. Am I going to encounter these same issues with the Eris?
3. I would also like to have a chat client which uses push and can work with FB, GTalk, AIM, and MSN. Is eBuddy the way to go?
4. Twitter Application, I'd like to have an application that will put new tweets on my home page. I'd also like to have an app in which I can post tweets (preferably with the option to post locations). What is the best twitter application?

Android :: Select Android Applications Sharing Data Without User Notification

Sep 30, 2010

Come one, come all -- let's gather and act shocked, shall we? It's no secret that Google's Android Market is far easier to penetrate than Apple's App Store, which is most definitely a double-edged sword. On one hand, you aren't stuck waiting a lifetime for Apple to approve a perfectly sound app; on the other, you may end up accidentally downloading some Nazi themes that scar you for life. A curious team of scientists from Intel Labs, Penn State and Duke University recently utilized a so-called TaintDroid extension in order to log and monitor the actions of 30 Android apps -- 30 that were picked from the 358 most popular. Their findings? That half of their sample (15, if you're rusty in the math department) shared location information and / or other unique identifiers (IMEI numbers, phone numbers, SIM numbers, etc.) with advertisers. Making matters worse, those 15 didn't actually inform end-users that data was being shared, and some of 'em beamed out information while applications were dormant. Unfortunately for us all, the researchers didn't bother to rat out the 15 evil apps mentioned here, so good luck resting easy knowing that your library of popular apps could be spying on you right now.

Update: A Google spokesperson pinged up with an official response to the study, and you can peek it after the break.Update 2: Looks as if the full study (PDF) has been outed, with the 30 total apps named. Here they are: The Weather Channel, Cestos, Solitaire, Movies, Babble, Manga Browser, Bump, Wertago, Antivirus, ABC - Animals, Traffic Jam, Hearts, Blackjack, Horoscope, 3001 Wisdom Quotes Lite, Yellow Pages, Dastelefonbuch, Astrid, BBC News Live Stream, Ringtones, Layer, Knocking, Barcode Scanner, Coupons, Trapster, Spongebob Slide, ProBasketBall, MySpace, ixMAT, and Evernote.

Android :: Former Blackberry User With Google Calendar

Jan 30, 2010

I am a former Blackberry user and I always used Google Sync to sync my calendar and contacts with my google account. This was done automatically, and I was able to choose how long I wanted to go back and go forward. I could go back 4 weeks and forward 24 weeks.

When I got my droid today, the salesperson at Verizon set it up with my google account. And it synced my contacts just fine. But it only synced my calendar from today forward for only one week.

I have searched and searched, and nowhere can I find where I can adjust these settings to sync for a longer period of time.

Also, does the Droid use the google sync app?

However when no location is available (no GPS signal is available) the user can go through an edit wizard and at a certain point he can add a location himself. I already have to code to display the stored location, but is it possible to write something so the user get's to see a map and when he clicks/touches on a certain area a map pointer appears and the location is stored. Is that possible in any way? Is there any good online documentation available? I searched through this group and on Google but couldn't find anything usefull.

Android :: Google Maps API - Detect When User Stopped Panning Map

Apr 3, 2010

I need to know when the user is panning the map so I can check if they've panned outside of the initial radius that I fetch data from the API with when the app launches. If the user pans outside this radius, when they stop panning I will get the new center point of the map and fetch new data with that geo-point. So far I can't find anything in the Google Maps API docs [and I've inspected the entire class tree] that notifies developers when any animation actions are occurring or completed.. It seems weird that Google wouldn't give us some sort of event listener or protected method to override on the MapView or something to do this.

I looked into what methods were available to override on the View class and it does have onAnimationEnd() but I guess panning or zooming the map doesn't count as an animation or is never passed up from the MapView or something... I tried running a simple log in onAnimationEnd() and it is never being called. Searching the interwebs gave me nothing but some never-successfully-answered posts.

Android :: Google TV Applications?

I've seen a few preview videos of Google TV pop up on the internet. I noticed they contained several apps such as GameTime and the Weather Channel. I was wondering how this is possible since there's no API yet and no announcement of one from Google.

It's going to make awfully difficult for people to compete with companies such as the Weather Channel if they're being given special treatment from Google by getting the ability to launch on the device. I really hope this isn't the case.

Android :: Can't Buy Applications Because Google Accounts Poorly Designed

Dec 11, 2009

My main Google account is a "Google Apps For Your Domain" (GAFYD) account. I have my Gmail, Calendar, etc. on this account. Unfortunately, GAFYD doesn't include Google Voice. Following the Google recommended method, I set up a regular Google Account for Google Voice (see here: Using your Google Apps address with Google Voice - Google Voice Help) that has the same username (but remains a distinct account). I do not have Gmail on this account because that would create issues. I set my phone up with my GAFYD account, as per this link: Android and G1 Forums, Mods, Hacks, News, Downloads, Skins, Themes, and more! | ModMyGphone - View Single Post - Primary Google Account in conjunction with Google Apps Account on Android Phone

Most functionality is there. In particular, Google Voice works with Gizmo and Sipdroid. However, there are some problems. Here's a thread discussing some of them: Anyone else having issues with your Google Apps for Domains account on the Droid? - Google Mobile Help

1. Cannot buy paid apps in the market.
2. Unable to use my maps layer in maps app.
3. Cannot login to google finance app.

I want to solve problem #1 - Cannot buy paid apps in the market. Many people are solving it by using another regular Gmail account. However, that's not working for me. I do have another regular Gmail account and I have been using it on my desktop computer for Check Out. However, Android on my Motorola Droid will not accept this account. I assume because it uses the same username as my GAFYD account (which is the way Google recommended doing it!). I have all my purchase history and credit card info in that account already. Creating YADGA ("yet another d*** Google account") is not an option.
