At the moment I have downloaded 56 applications but only have 10 on SD card I have tried but still can't get anymore to move over to SD card I have only 27mb left is their another way of moving apps to SD via computer and free up some extra space I've cleared up web browser etc.

i was wondering what apps are safe to move and which ones just wont move. I know system apps and those that use widgets are a no no. But what about Google maps,facebook, gmail, astro and Adobe flash player (12.4) mb?
Maybe we could have a list of what not to move here?
Just installed the new update but I haven't come across one app that can be moved to SD yet. Can someone give me an example of one that definitely can so I can check?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have some 80MB left on the phones memory, I have downloaded a lot of apps, tried them and deleted most of them (but far from all). There are still a lot of apps I would like to DL and try out, but before doing that I would like to move as much as possible to the SD card, it says I have 3.67 GB available, so plenty of room. However When I go to Applications--> Manage Applications the ption to move them to the SD card is grayed out and the option is not available to me. What do I need to do to turn it on?

I realise there are a few threads about this, but I thought I would make a new one for my easier guide, and hopefully people will find it more easily as they won't have to scroll through pages of other threads to find an answer. I am now successfully running most apps from my SD Card now. I just thought I would make an easier guide as the others are fairly complex for noobs like me............
Just followed instructions on how to move apps to sd card on an unrooted device....all worked well, moved what i wanted to, but would now like to put phone back to default settings to install apps to phone memory.
I tried to open run command on my pc with phone connected and typed pm setInstallLocation 0.....but all that comes up is command is not recognized.
So I've downloaded the Tajm and Battstatt which are widgets and for some reason they're downloading directly to my sdcard. So while I have them on my homescreen and I reboot my phone they will not show up anymore. So I decide to move them to my phone memory and when I do they no longer show up on the widgets list anymore.

I presume one might want to move apps to the SD card to "free up some space" but is that the ONLY reason to move the apps to the card?? Is anyone NOT WAITING until space on the phone is an issue and moving the apps to the card right now?? Are there certain apps that are recommended to be on the phone for proper/faster performance? (I know this was an issue with the Palm Centro I used to have where certain apps HAD TO reside on and launch from the phone)?? I want to back up my apps though, so I go into manage applications and pick an app, but the 'move to SD card' option is grayed out. Also, to hard reset all I have to do is from home screen touch menu-settings-privacy- factory data reset - reset phone. Or is there something I should do instead?

Since the Droid X comes with 8GB of phone storage, I've got lots of room there.What would be some reasoning behind moving apps to the SD card? I see lots of people get excited when a favorite app adds SD card support, but why exactly? Maybe it's more of an advantage for phones with less phone storage? Also, how come in manage applications, it says that the app takes up way less space when it's on the SD Card? For example, I just installed Angry Birds and it put itself on the SD Card when it installed. It showed 1.83MB in size. When I moved it to the SD Card, it showed 14.06MB.

Anyways, what I was wondering is if I put all my apps on my SD card, what happens when/if I reflash my ROM? Will I have to wipe the SD card, reinstall the Apps and reback them up top the SD card? That wont hold many apps AT ALL. If so that is a horrible choice by HTC to not incorporate a big storage and forget about the use of an SD card.

It is really cool that all the applications are free, but the G1 phone doesn't have a lot of on board memory, so please implement the feature to install applications on the SD Card. That is the only comment I have. A lot of people are Jailbreaking their phones just so they can get to that feature. Please consider it. Thank you. One more thing-If you can make it possible to save the browser cache data on the SD card as well will be awesome.
