Android :: Unique Uses For Locale - Turning The Ringer Down - Turning GPS/Bluetooth/wifi
Nov 17, 2009I see another thread on Locale, but it seems to be focused on it technical shortcomings. I thought a thread about how people are using this app would be helpful.
Now... I use Locale for the following:
- Turning the ringer down when I get to work (obviouse one)
- Turning GPS/Bluetooth/wifi on when I plug it in the phone (think car dock)
- Turn on Wifi when I get near my known hot spots.
- Turn off GPS/Bluetooth/wifi off and turn down brightness when my battery is low.
And the last one is a good one for me...
- I have a GV number. When I call my phone from that number, it turns the ringer volume all the way up and it turns on wifi and GPS. This is my "lost phone aid". It turns on the locating features so I can see where the phone is using iGoogle and Latitude, and I can hear the phone if it is "in the cushions" on vibrate.
Anyone else get creative with Locale?
Sprint HTC Hero :: No Ringer After Text Vibrate / Fix It?
Jan 3, 2010I use handsent as my text app don't know if it could be that but but I will get a text and my phone will vibrate but no ring until I get the phone and slide to unlock ... anyone else having same problem?
ps. Much lagg on keyboard as I'm typing this entry)
Sprint HTC Hero :: Uploading Ringer From Computer To Phone?
Jan 27, 2010I'm having problems uploading a ringer from my computer to my phone. I sent the ringer using funformobile.com just like all my other phones(storm, instinct, etc.). It downloads the ringer but I can't access it. When I try to open it after I send it it says "no app can be found to open the file". What am I doing wrong???

Nov 10, 2009I swear, sometimes I feel like my phone's vibration is louder than its ringer. When I'm in class or something, I am afraid to leave it on vibrate because its vibrations are very loud. Same thing as in the library.Anyway to soften the vibration?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Lost Locale - How To Manage Ringer Setting
Mar 8, 2010Had Locale and used a basic setting to turn my ringer off during work based on time of day...put it back on after work.
Is there anything in the marketplace that would work for me? I've read many bad reviews on Locale and don't want to risk it for $10. Not averse to paying for a good app that someone can vouch for!

Dec 12, 2009I've been through a few Hero's for a couple of different reasons, and I keep running into this same problem. The issue is as I'm using an application other than google maps, the gps receiver continues to search and flash active after exiting the application. The only way that I can seem to get it do deactivate is go into the google maps app and then exit. This happens when I use ANY app that utilizes location aside from google maps.

Jul 30, 2010My phone keeps turning on in my pocket and dialing numbers without me knowing. I tried the lock screen and ended up locking my phone out due to too many tries in my pocket and ending up having to reset my phone to use again. Even with the lock screen on, the menu button still turn the phone on.

Apr 5, 2010I've never had "bad" battery life but have always felt that the battery does die pretty quick. I'm text up to 100 texts a day tops, pretty heavy internet (checking work emails all day), a few phone calls here and there. Maybe some music here and there, nothing to justify the less than desirable battery life. Spare parts never showed anything out of line either. Rooting was something I had no desire to do (I tried it and found it useless for me). Like a few others, I'm patiently waiting for *whispers* THE UPDATE. Anyways I turned off Sense the other day and DRASTICALLY improved my battery life. Sense ON- wifi off, gps off, location off, mobile internet off. pretty much EVERYTHING off. By 1pm my battery was usually 50-60%. By 10pm my battery was dead. Sense OFF - wifi on and mobile internet on ALL DAY. Now by 5pm my battery is usually around 70%. Running music/HEAVY internet for the rest of the night leaves my battery at 35% by night end.

There is no stop button, only pause, and apparently backing out of the app does not turn it off. Should I look into a task killer for this?

Oct 25, 2009I've had 4-5 apps so far do this to me, and every once in a while another app does the same - instead of displaying its proper name, like ChompSMS or wpToGo, the name would switch to the Java version, such as com.p1.chompsms or com.roundhill.androidWP.wpAndroid.
The name change occurs globally - in the app list, widget names, even the displayed name when I start the app. The only place where the names stay OK is the Market.
These changes don't happen after an update - just randomly but once they happen, they stay.
Some other apps include VoiceCallerID and Mystique Chapter 1.
WTF is going on with my phone?
HTC Hero :: Why Ringer Volume Grayed Out And Not Functioning?
Aug 29, 2010I attended a seminar and simply turned the volume all the way down (i.e. Menu, Sound & Display, then Ringer Volume). But when I got out of the seminar, and went back to Ringer Volume, it's now grayed out as is Phone ringtone, Phone Vibrate, Notification Sound and all the others below until you get to Emergency Tone and below, where those are back to being bright white. i.e. now when I touch the grayed out Ringer Volume, it does nothing and I'm stuck with vibrate only.

It's so easy to press by accident, and I never want to change the ringer volume anyway! (I only ever want it to ring at a particular volume, or not ring at all...in which case I just put it in vibrate mode)
