Sprint HTC Hero :: AVI Is Unsupported / No Video Players
Jul 30, 2010
i havea bunch of AVI video clips that i ant to watch on Hero. unfortunately it seems AVI is unsupported and there are no video players out there that support it. so it seems i have to convert to MP4. What are the exact settings i need to make it in order to playback on Hero? i am using Format Factory to convert .

I tried a few different players from the market including a few that I had to use an app installer to install. So far I have had no luck playing AVI's & MVA's, does anyone know if Android 2.0 includes a universal player like VLC? If not is anyone working on a player? I understand you can convert files to MP4 & 3GP but I would rather find something that can just play the standard format my camera records in.

So I see that the Eris is supposed to support MP4 format. I converted a DVD to MP4 and put it on a friends Motorola Droid and it worked great, put it on my Eris and I could see the icon but it said it could not play the video, like it was an unsupported format? I know the Droid is using Android 2.0 and the Eris is using 1.5, anyone else play MP4 movies on their Eris?

I got the X10 2 or 3 weeks ago, previous phone was a Samsung Jet. I watch quite a few films but so far I can't get the quality. The files are mainly divx encoded but I have been converting to mpeg4 to play them in Mediascape. The video is skipping / jumping even though it is not at a super-high resolution, bitrate etc. Does anyone know what the best settings are to get video that's watchable? The Jet would play divx files no problem at all and I assumed the X10 would be at least as good...

As far as I understand, immersive mode can be implemented in two ways in 4.4 KitKat Feature Spotlight: Apps Can Now Go Truly Full-Screen, Hide The Navigation Bar
the user has to swipe down to bring back the navigation bar (the book readers, games example) or touch the screen (the video players example). Is there a way (even if it involves a custom rom) to make video players use the swipe down implementation? The reason I ask is that I have a toddler who I often let watch cartoons on youtube (ie while waiting for food at a restaurant...). He constantly touches buttons on the navigation bar on accident which stops the video and then I have to take the phone from him, restart the app, restart the video, and give it back. I would love to be able to use the swipe-down implementation in this scenario.

Are there any video or music player apps that are capable of recognizing media on the internal storage? I know that the HTC players can do it, but I'm looking for something with a few more features. I've tried mixzing, Act 1, and cubed (aka RockOn), but they each can only see files on SD cards. There does not seem to be a way to tell the apps to look in the /emmc directory. I'm new to Android so maybe it's just a matter of developers updating their apps for the Incredible?
I was thinking, alternatively, is there a way to create a symbolic link with an app like Astro to make the files *appear* like they're on the SD card?

After setting the overclock widget to reduce the CPU when my screen is off I find the mp3 player distorts the music when I listen. I have had to increase the screen off min speed to 480000 to stop this happening. This of course means I'm not getting the battery saving bonus that setting to 112, 160 or 245 would give me. Does anyone know a better way to set the overclock widget to give me the battery saving effects without distorting music? Or perhaps an mp3 player that uses less CPU? I'm running SenseHero 2.1 b4 and using the stock HTC music player.

I take videos on the HTC Hero, connect the phone to PC, then drag videos from phone to desktop. They come out as .3gp files. When I try to play them back, each program either crashes (Quicktime, VLC), or tells me that it cannot playback this type of codec (Windows Media Player). The videos playback fine on the phone, just not when I bring them over to my PC.I am running Android 2.1 and Vista. Any help is appreciated.

This is the first phone I've owned with video capture available (LG Rumor, Instinct, Pre) and I notice there are a variety of settings available when it comes to video. One video I had recorded earlier today seemed more choppy with the exact same settings than another I took yesterday, the only difference I could really note was there was much more light in today's video. So is there a secret to beautiful video every time?

If you guys are still suffering from this issue upgrade to the Maintenance Release, it fixes it for the most part, except for the occasional failure to connect. No ROM leak though.During the past few weeks my my Hero has been exhibiting signs of a ROM memory leak. It led to not being able to receive SMS messages even after hard resetting the phone. See these threads for that issue.

Has anyone noticed improvements to the Hero camcorder video quality under Android 2.1? I thought I remember hearing that the upgrade might improve this. It's not a big deal, but I was hoping the recorded video would be smoother than the 15 fps under the 1.5 OS. I don't see a difference, but wanted to hear some other opinions.

I'm trying to play videos from a site, its a MP4 and when I click on it loads but then I get an a message of "Cannot play video, Sorry, this video cannot be played." The video also gives me the option to play it as a WMV, when I download the WMV version it wont play. All it does is play the audio, the actual video won't play. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to download an app, if so what app?
