Samsung Moment :: Need A Compass Application
Nov 27, 2009I just tried a bunch of compass applications, and they all seem to be off by about 45 to 90 degrees. It's the same on goggle sky. Does anyone else have this same problem?

Samsung Moment :: Downloaded Compass Application
Nov 8, 2009Downloaded compass application and didn't find it to be very accurate. Used it next to a real compass and an Iphone with its compass....Iphone matched the real compass...this one was way off. Anyone have better luck, or did they get the compass chip from the same guy they got the crappy GPS chip from.

Jun 10, 2010I tried using Layar 3 different times in 3 different locations, and each time it showed the locations of things to be completely opposite of where they were supposed to be. So I installed a Compass app and (at least in this room) it seems to be about 90* off. Can anyone else mess around with Layar / Compass app and report their findings?

May 4, 2010I need to build compass for my application.
From reading the documentation it seems there are two reasonable ways of doing this:
Sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION method: This is the easy way of doing it. The problem with this is it is not accurate. When I compare my reading with Snaptic Compass it is about 10-15 degress off which for my purposes is unacceptable.
Sensor.TYPE_ACCELEROMETER, Sensor.TYPE_MAGNETIC_FIELD and getRotationMatrix() in conjunction with remapCoordinateSystem() and getOrientation() method: The documentation says this "is usually more accurate". The problem is regardless of the delay I register with listener the compass goes crazy even when the device is stationary on flat surface.

Jul 12, 2010I'm a bit new to Android but after searching on the Market, the web and this forum, I can't seem to find anything like this but I feel like it has to exist (or hopefully will soon). I'm looking for a camera application that can place the current compass direction on the image (and stamp the saved image with the direction). The tilt of the phone would be cool to have, too, but just the compass would be great. I did find an application that shows the compass direction on over top of a feed from the camera ("Reality + Compass" by Udell Enterprises).
I want something just like this, but with the ability to save the image. In case you're wondering, I'd like to use this for bettering the storm spotting community. A problem when people send in images of clouds/storms/tornadoes/etc is that you never know (1) where the picture was taken and (2) in what direction. Ideally GPS location could be added, too, but for now I just want the compass. (Other image services can handle the location part fine, like Twitter for Android/Twitpic.)
(I'm on the HTC Aria, but I can sideload apps now thanks to the new version of HTC Sync.)

Samsung Moment :: Application For Various Volume Controls?
Jan 22, 2010If there was any app that would allow me to control volume of various other applications. One thing I really loved about my old Blackberry is I could set up a profile that muted everything except calls. When I go to sleep at night I want to be able to get a phone call in case of an emergency, but don't want to hear my email/twitter etc. Apps going off all night. Is there anything out there for my Moment that can accomplish this same thing?

After flashing and reinstalling the apps using MyBackup, I am left disappointed that the data that goes with the apps didn't make it. Jan 16, 2010I am currently running CL14 stock with Open Home and I wanted to let you security conscious folks know about a security issue I discovered. I hit the end button and pulled up my phones lock screen. Decided to test the new emergency dialer and when I pulled that up Open Home had force closed. When I hit end it returned me to the main screen w/o me entering my combination. I assume this could happen with any force closed app so although it's a rare issue that something FCs in the background it is possible and is a security issue. Just a heads up.

Jul 17, 2010I own a samsung moment which was rooted about a month+ ago. I started receiving an error message randomly today from HelixLauncher: The application HelixLauncher (process com.helixproject.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. It prompts me to force close then I receive the same error message yet again.
I cannot access anything on my phone as this error message renders anything on the phone almost completely inaccessible. I don't understand why I've randomly gotten stuck with this error message. I'm guessing my only option is a hard reset/safemode reboot and eventually re-root; this application seems to fuel a large part of the current 'root' I am running.
Samsung Moment :: Application That Uses Camera Flash As Flashlight - Bad Idea?
Jan 24, 2010There is an app in the market which is written just for the Moment that uses the camera flash as a flashlight -- essentially it turns on the camera flash. The application says not to use the flash "too long" or damage may occur, but the "too long" time period is not defined. First, will having the flash on for an period of time damage it? Second, if so, any idea what maximum period of time would be "safe?"
