Samsung EPIC 4G :: Adjust Slot Cycle Index On Phone?
Oct 6, 2010
Anyone know where to adjust the slot cycle index on the Epic 4g?
I've had a few calls that never rang on my phone. Id like to drop the SCI from 2 to 1, but dont know where to change it.
I've got the MSL for my phone, and tried ##DATA#, Advanced.. but its not in there like most phones.

On my Eris I was able to use ##PST on my Eris to change my slot cycle index, but for my new D2 it is not working. How would I go about accessing this on the D2?

Does anyone know what the code is on the Motorola Droid (i.e. ##778) to access the menu to change my Slot Cycle Index? I thought it would be in the programming menu but I could not find it...

It makes my battery usage worse. What if I raise it to max 7? Will I see a battery boost, or what problems might I come across? I am going to set mine at 7 and I will update if I see any differences.

My brother called me last night and said it rang 5 times for him but I picked it up in the MIDDLE of the very first ring and dialing ##788 doesn't do anything anymore. Not cool. What now? Edit: ##778 doesn't work either.

FYI, the slot cycle defines how often the device wakes up and checks the CDMA network for messages, incoming calls, etc. This does not effect the throughput of a data connection. It will only improve responsiveness for catching incoming calls and messages from the network. Each increment in settings doubles or haves the interval time. Slot cycle 0 wakes the device to check the paging channel every 1.28s. 1 is every 2.56, 2 is 5.12s, etc.Only thing you are doing is using more battery.any other observations are a placebo.

I have two constant issues on my Epic-I've been ignoring them for a month but there must be a fix & I could really use your help! Also it would be good to hear from others who are seeing the same things so I know I am not completely insane...
1 - My screen brightness seems to adjust up on its own... To increase battery life I have it set all the way down...but, for example, as I was typing this post the brightness increased on its own... Any ideas?
2 - My voice recognition stops working all the time...not with one app either... Resetting my profile seems to fix it for about 5 minutes but it doesn't take long for it to go TU again

So I was out on my motorcycle and had about 60% battery left on my Vibrant.Figuring I wasn't going to need the phone for a few hours I powered the phone off, calling myself saving battery. When I turned the phone back on I was totally surprised that the battery was down to 38% immediately following powering up.This happens every time I power the phone down-I lose about 20% consistently. It also happens when google maps shits itself and either freezes the phone (necessitating a battery pull reset) or causes a spontaneous reboot. Is this normal? I've had my phone for a bit over two weeks (so out of my remorse period) and my besides this my battery works and lasts rather well, considering how much this phone has going on.

My phone is acting really strange. It turns itself off and then on again and again in this cycle as if the power button is always being pressed.
I can sometimes get into my recovery (CWM) but when I try to go deeper into the menu. I get kicked back to the main screen as if im pressing the power button to go "back" until the phone gets completely turned off again.
I noticed something too. When I pull out the battery and put it back on. The phone turns itself on without me even pressing the power button. Then the cycle continues again.
Could this be software, ROM, recovery, partition related or does this sound something hardware related?

Samsung Epic 4G (Sprint) Review: Noah's First Impressions
Its encouraging to hear statements like this one....
Noah: "Epic is the best hard QWERTY Android device I've ever tried. By a healthy margin!"
I'll definitely be purchasing mine launch day. The 31'st can't come soon enough!

I've noticed that when I do a soft reset (power cycle phone off and on) that the start up screen has what looks like dead pixels. When the phone actually boots up to the HTC screen with Android waving the "dead" pixels disappear. They only appear on start-up and go away at the HTC screen with Android. I noticed about 5 "dead" spots. Is this normal?

Is there anyway to adjust the audio level out of the Captivate? When I hooked it up to my car stereo to play Pandora, I had to max out the volume on the car stereo just to be able to hear it. I don't listen to music at outrageous levels. If I listen to a CD or the radio, the volume level is between 10 and 25. With the Captivate it is 40 and still not as loud as the radio.

Just got my Galaxy S 2 days ago, loving it so far but does anyone know any app that works with adjusting the brightness for the phone beyond what default brightness setting . Even on the lowest setting it is still so bright, and on the battery use page it say that the display uses 65% of the battery.

Such that it is only on for the navigation buttons (capacitive touch buttons at the bottom) and not anywhere else (i.e. not on the keyboard)? I prefer typing without haptic feedback but I don't want to turn it completely off because it becomes even harder to see if a bottom navigation button responded with it off.

I've been through three different car mounts so far, they of the "universal" variety... one with rubber side clamps, one padded, both with feet underneath... none of them were to my liking... didn't hold my Epic well enough, either fell out (thankfully while I was monitoring it) or felt like it could if I hit too big a bump. My question is if anyone has found a really good car mount yet, specifically for the Epic preferably? I prefer a windshield mount, but I'm willing to consider other options if it's sturdy and I can position it decently in my car.

I had pretty bad battery life today, took off the charger at 11:30, just plugged in at 15% 11 hours later, with a short charge in the car on the way to a late lunch. No text messages, no emails, no phone calls . I got a few apps off the market, did a little web surfing, & watched one 4 minute youtube video. This is my first Android phone, I had a HTC Touch Pro before this. BTW - The lack of comms today is because I'm not working right now, but in the middle of federal hiring process with the next appointment on the 13th, wish me luck. Bluetooth, GPS, and wifi are always off. Screen brightness is left at the lowest level. This is all shown with the Power Control widget on a home screen. I also have the Samsung Program Monitor widget on the same screen, and nothing stays running. Auto sync is always off, I rarely actually use gmail. The stock email app is set to check two other email accounts every hour.
I tried a little test, but just don't know what to make of it. I have Battery Monitor and Android Manager Free installed. Whenever I mention Task Manager, I accessed it through AMF. Before beginning, I removed the Weather Channel widget from the home screen and terminated the app in the Task Manager. I had installed a BBC news app today, but uninstalled before testing; it automatically updated a couple times today and showed up in Task Manager after I terminated it. I made sure Background Data was turned off, I generally only turn it back on when I launch the Market (gives a popup saying it needs it). I plugged the charger in with the phone at 26% charge, just for a minute to reset the last time unplugged. Using Battery Monitor (which apparently just shortcuts to the built-in Android battery monitoring screens found through Settings) I checked the status periodically, along with seeing what was active in Task Manager. Every 5 to 10 minutes I would press the power button to turn on the display, then check Battery history - Since last unplugged. I'd check the Task Manager, terminate Battery Monitor and AMF, then press the power button to turn the screen off............

I fully understand that this is a CDMA phone and unlocking a CDMA phone is not quite as easy as GSM phones, since Sprint will never hand over the unlock code under any circumstances. However I really wanted to use this phone with Virgin Mobile with their *Beyond the Talk plan, has anyone successfully unlocked a Splint Epic 4G?

I've tried looking at the videos and pics, but I am unable to see if there is a Tab key. The Tab key is very nice for completing online forms and logins. The original Touch Pro had this key, but they ditched it on the 2nd version.
Anyone know about this yet? Or does Android have another way for tabbing?

I upgraded from a Samsung Exclaim to a Epic via Sprint (Obviously, lol) I put the sd card from the old phone into the new one and put the pics onto my desktop. They're in a format called jpg.md I can't put them on the new phone. I've googled, and contacted Samsung, neither of which has helped. Any suggestions?
