I have a Samsung Galaxy S. When I am making a call, the dial pad contains buttons with a number and three to four letters. However, while I am in a call and that I hit the "dialpad" button to show the dial pad, it contains the same buttons but without the letters. This is embarrassing when you need to type a password or a name.So the two questions are:
1. Is there a way to get the letters to show on the dial pad during a call?
2. Is this a Samsung or Android bug?

My unbranded SGS is currently running 2.2 (I9000XXJPM, FROYO.XWJP6) which I updated via the registery hack last month. It's running smooth and I've not had any problems My question is, what is the difference between my existing version and the 'offical' Froyo 2.2 that will be released soon? Would I be able to update my firmware to the newer version since I'm already on 2.2 (I9000XXJPM, FROYO.XWJP6)?

On the people screen where you have the larger pics for your contacts some have a phone icon, others have a text icon and the index card icon. How can you get them to have the index card?
My problem is when I touch the pic it calls the person when what I want it to display the options, call, text, email etc. I know if you touch the bottom bar it does that but it takes some effort to get that right and not call someone by mistake.

Today I synced all my contacts from my gmail account to my Android phone which worked without problems. After the import was done, I looked through my contacts on my phone and noticed that the contacts are listed alphabetically, under an index letter:
Just an example:
Jane Doe
James Brown
Julie Smith
All those are listed under the index letter "J", which is fine, but then the first contact under each index letter is listed under the previous index letter. In the example above, Jane Doe (which is the first contact that falls under the index letter "J" was NOT listed under "J", but it was under "I", which is the letter that comes before "J" in the alphabet.
And this seems to be the case in the whole phone book.
I tried several things, such as deleting the entire phone book, re-syncing the contacts from gmail and so on, but it keeps on happening again.
it the way Android saves/lists the contacts in its phone book?

I have configured my Samsung Galaxy S using my normal Gmail account. This has helped me to sync the Google Contacts with my phone.
Following are my questions:
1. Right now I have about a thousand google contacts synced to my phone. I want to remove them at one go. I know how to disable them from being appearing in contact list, but I want to know if I can delete them without going to factory settings.
2. I am using three applications (a) Gmail (b) Contacts (3) MVOIP. I want to know if there is a way that following combination works:
a- Google contacts appear on Gmail app
b- Google contacts (with phone numbers) and normal phone contacts appear on "Contacts"
c- Google contacts (with phone numbers) and normal phone contacts appear on "MVOIP application".
I know how to do
(a) - By synchronising google contacts,
(b) - by choosing display options
(c) - I do not know how to handle this and I want help.

In Google Contacts I've entered birthdays and subscribed to the "Contacts' birthdays and events" calendar in Google Calendar. They show up as intended in Google Calendar but in my phones calendar they're all listed twice. Unsubscribing from the contacts birthdays calendar makes both disappear, so they're not from some other calendar. Is this a bug in the Galaxy S calendar? Any solutions?

And everything works perfectly! Ok i had to do a factory reset after the update (after backing up my contacts), but now it works faster, is more beautiful and of course Flash player is installed. A lot of little neat things were added as well. So i am happy and you should be too! Go update through KIES! Froyo should be there!

At a press conference in New Delhi, the VP of marketing made a comment that galaxy s won't be updated to Android 2.2
Comments made were as followed:-
UPDATE: The Galaxy S wont be able to update to Android 2.2 and above. It will remain on Android 2.1.
UPDATE 2: Samsung will update the Galaxy S to 2.2 from their manufacturing facility. No word on the timing but those new devices will run on Android 2.2. They are still working on how to upgrade current units that are running on Android 2.1.
Have a read here from Cellpasion and also here on Twitter.

I know its only a test build but from what you have so far what is your judgment?? On a side note, I like that they added color to the settings similar to HTC sense. Its it as fast and as smooth as in this video?

]I got a samsung galaxy s on contract with t mobile in the uk. When I go on kies I see that there is a firmware update available but it says that its not available for my handset.
Now my baseband number is I9000boJF1 and my firmware version is 2.r update. I heard some post say recently that 2.2 update is only available for payg handsets and not contract handsets is that true? If the froyo update is still out there for t mobile then i will wait but if it is not coming at all then can someone post me how i can use the odin method to upgrade. Note my baseband version, last time I used odin with wrong files and it messed my galaxy s.
By typing *#1234# I get
PDA: I9000BOJG3
Phone: I9000BOJF1
CSC: I9000GTMUJG1

I'm probably in the same situation as many SGS owners, i.e. installed the one click LAG fix to overcome the issues with 2.1. As 2.2 is due out (in the UK) probably sometime in the next few weeks, can someone more technical advise if the LAG fix should be removed and the phone unrooted before the official upgrade. Additionally, is there any benefit moving up to 2.2 other than Flash? I haven't had any real issues with the phone other than the initial LAG. I'm on Orange UK, but I don't suppose that really matters?

Having just purchased my first smart phone last week (Galaxy S) I am having a complete nightmare updating to FROYO with Kies.I know this has been done to death on this and various other forums but is there any possible way to upgrade the firmware without Kies as ive been trying for 3 nights now but absolutely nothing works to get my phone to connect to Kies.I have tried every tip and suggestion from this and other forums and all result in my phone telling me its connected but Kies on my PC just spinning away saying trying to connect.I can connect to my PC in Mass storage mode and transfer files no problem but Kies is just a complete nightmare.Over the short period of time ive had the phone I think its a fantastic piece of kit and am still learning about all that it can do but am getting seriously frustrated by not being able to do what should be a simple task!
