A couple of quick questions.. I can't change my custom away message (status), even though it says to tap your screen name at the top of the buddy list. Can you read people's away messages with this phone, if so how? When i get a new IM, i get sent a website browser in the notification along with the the person's screen name who IMed me, but when i click the link, it never loads up and shows an error, anyway to fix this or anything?

I have seen other devices (such as the HTC Hero) that have an app called IM, to my understanding this is the Stock Instant Messaging application. Is there any way I could get it on my Vibrant? I really want to try it and see if it can replace eBuddy.

I keep all my instant messengers signed in on my desktop and something on my phone keeps logging in and booting me off of them. I have everything that i can think of turned off like Meebo yet it keeps happening. I checked the battery status to make sure it didnt list anything as running that i didnt notice. Dunno why it keeps happening starting to get kind of annoying.

I just upgraded to the Evo from the Hero. I was lucky and the store did not record my equipment upgrade last time, so I was eligible at the launch date. I used to use the IM app on the Hero, but it looks like it did not make it to the Evo. Am I missing a stock HTC app and it is now renamed or part of another app? If not, what is my best choice - something like ebuddy? I mainly use Y messenger.

Why can't we just get a good IM app like beejive for android? I have an iPod Touch and every IM app I've seen in the apple app store blows anything we got. Meebo, ebuddu, hi aim, yahoo and all that other crap sucks compared to the iPhone IMs. Is there a way to contact google or someone incharge of the market place to add more IM apps?

I am aware of the notification bar on the top that you can bring down to see new e-mails, SMS texts, etc. But how does notification work with IM (instant-messaging)? I would like to know how Hero notifies you of new IM's both when you are on the home screen/different app other than IM, and in the locked screen (where you have to drag down to unlock).

I'm looking for a good messengering app that can run Face book chat and run in the background. I've tried Meebo and eBuddy but they both seem to disconnect if you leave your phone alone for so long. I want something like BBM that can run in the background and give me a notification when someone is trying to chat with me.

So before I start, let me say that I have tried this on my wife's Vibrant and my own captivate I get a lock immediately in google maps.
After seeing skyhook in the LbsTest settings I decided to look further into what skyhook is. I read the article below: Samsung to Put Skyhook on Mobile Devices - Midmarket from eWeek
So I thought hey... there are lots of wifi networks around where I live I wonder if it would help if I turn my wifi on.
I get an almost instant lock accurate to 50 meters (good enough for navigation). I have tried it over and over and when I turn off wifi, I get an accuracy of 1700 meters. Turn it back on and get accuracy to 50 meters.
It works indoors and out.
I just noticed that for this to work YOU MUST HAVE "USE WIRELESS NETWORKS" CHECKED under location and security then turn on Wifi (you don't have to connect to any networks). My guess is it narrows down your location based on Cell tower triangulation, then uses wifi to narrow it down.
Here is a blury, crapy, video I made of it:

I was a huge advocate for ebuddy, but the app doesn't support Froyo, and I'm using a 2.2 rom. So, I'm hoping one of you can recommend an instant messaging app to try out. I've tried a few and can't find one I like.
ebuddy: No froyo support
Meebo: Blows. Constant disconnects.
IM+: No longer supported
What I need:
1. AIM, Facebook, GChat, MSN
2. Remain signed in 24/7
3. Froyo support

I was playing with my friend's G1 when I noticed a native, Android IM app. So I searched around my DROID and found nothing. What I want to know is where did it go? Why don't I have it? Where can I get it, and what would be the best solution without it?
Note: I would primarily use AIM.

I am making an IM application for Android. The application consists of a server and client, both residing on the android. At startup, the applications register with a webserver. If a client wants to send an IM to a server behind a NAT router, how this be done? I heard of stun4j and jstun but found nowhere an example of their usage in android.

I'm having another problem with my milestone that I'd like to share with developers and Android coders: Whenever I run memory-intensive applications while I have an IM app running in the background, the IM app is often killed without any user notification whatsoever.Take this scenario for instance (works every time on my Milestone): A few background apps are already running: Sipdroid, Locale, Titanium Backup's service... 2. Launch Nimbuzz (or Fring, eBuddy or Meebo - it's reproducible on all of them) 3. Use lots of memory - for instance with a browser (open lots of windows will full desktop sites), or by launching multiple memory- intensive applications at once (Maps Navigation or other navigation apps work well)
