I was a huge advocate for ebuddy, but the app doesn't support Froyo, and I'm using a 2.2 rom. So, I'm hoping one of you can recommend an instant messaging app to try out. I've tried a few and can't find one I like.
ebuddy: No froyo support
Meebo: Blows. Constant disconnects.
IM+: No longer supported
What I need:
1. AIM, Facebook, GChat, MSN
2. Remain signed in 24/7
3. Froyo support

Does the instant messaging apps such as AIM use your text messaging plan?

Note: I would primarily use AIM.
I am making an IM application for Android. The application consists of a server and client, both residing on the android. At startup, the applications register with a webserver. If a client wants to send an IM to a server behind a NAT router, how this be done? I heard of stun4j and jstun but found nowhere an example of their usage in android.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having another problem with my milestone that I'd like to share with developers and Android coders: Whenever I run memory-intensive applications while I have an IM app running in the background, the IM app is often killed without any user notification whatsoever.Take this scenario for instance (works every time on my Milestone): A few background apps are already running: Sipdroid, Locale, Titanium Backup's service... 2. Launch Nimbuzz (or Fring, eBuddy or Meebo - it's reproducible on all of them) 3. Use lots of memory - for instance with a browser (open lots of windows will full desktop sites), or by launching multiple memory- intensive applications at once (Maps Navigation or other navigation apps work well)

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhats the scoop behind which one is really better? The stock messaging app or aftermarket apps (handcent and chomp). I use Handcent, and lately I have been finding it to be quite laggy and slow, even with cache cleared and all threads deleted. Is the only difference between stock and aftermarket, the fact that you can customize? I would much rather have a plain looking stock app that performs well, then a customizable aftermarket app that is slow. I am just looking for some opinions.

View 19 Replies View RelatedSo what I've noticed is that when people call me and I click answer, it takes a second or two for the call to actually connect, and during that time, people can't hear me, so I end up saying "Hello....Hello?" all the time. Is there any way to make the calls answer instantaneously, as opposed to that 2 second lapse in connection?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOk so I use my new Evo phone constantly to chat on yahoo and AIM, usually through either the ebuddy, yahoo, or now the new trillian app for android. And until a few days ago the only complaint I had was that it logged off everytime I got a phone call, but it always logged back on, so no worries. I just figured it was a data vs. phone service issue.
Until now.
I started noticing that everytime I make a phone call or get a text message on my phone, my AIM and yahoo based chat services (happens in all of the above apps) disconnect, and they don't auto login again. I have to logout of the app and then log back in to reconnect. But wait, it gets better.
I was annoyed with it happening on my phone, so I just logged off the chat app on my phone and logged in on my computer instead. Then my phone rang. A few seconds after the call, my chat service disconnected... on the computer! I thought wow, strange coincidence.
So I tested it. I logged back in and made a phone call, hung up, same exact thing happened, chat services that I was logged into on my computer were disconnected within a few seconds of end the call on my phone. So I reset my phone, turned it back on, made sure no IM client related apps were running, and made a phone call. Same thing happened. And then I got a regular text message from a friend on my phone, and noticed the same thing happened, the yahoo and AIM connection on my computer disconnected.
How on earth can my phone be causing my internet based chat service on my computer to disconnect when no apps related to that feature are running on the phone (and no the phone was not connected in any way to the computer)? I am completely stumped!
I hope somebody here has a clue how to resolve this. I tested it over and over again with different programs on the phone (downloaded trillian after it started happening with the ebuddy and yahoo apps to see if it did it also, it did) and I used both yahoo by itself on my computer and other all-in-one type messenger programs with the same result. Somehow the SMS portion of the phone which is used for the IM clients doesn't disconnect anymore and is related to the phone calls. Its like the accounts have somehow been paired. This issue only began this weekend, prior to that everything was fine.
Just wondering if there's an aim app for the droid? any recommendations if so?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to the Evo from the Hero. I was lucky and the store did not record my equipment upgrade last time, so I was eligible at the launch date. I used to use the IM app on the Hero, but it looks like it did not make it to the Evo. Am I missing a stock HTC app and it is now renamed or part of another app? If not, what is my best choice - something like ebuddy? I mainly use Y messenger.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got Gmail running. I get almost instant notifications of new email - give or take 1 minute
Is this how its supposed to be? (Not complaining!) I've only done some basic testing - but it seems really fast pickup! I thought Blackberry had a patent or something that stopped other mobile companies giving *instant* email notifications?
I can't figure out how to make this work. It doesn't show up as an option in notifications, although I can do it it with pretty much everything else. I get tired of having to turn on my phone like it is a damn iphone, to see if I have an instant message waiting. I get dozens a day, and really don't like that I can't simply glance at the phone and see if one is waiting. Is there a setting for this, or an app to make it work? The Instant Messaging app for Yahoo, etc. seems like it could use an update. I don't get the "so and so is typing a message" like I used to on my BB when the other party was typing. I keep interrupting them now if we have a conversation going, and then miss their messages when I'm not staring at my phone.
