View 1 RepliesI'm looking for a good messengering app that can run Face book chat and run in the background. I've tried Meebo and eBuddy but they both seem to disconnect if you leave your phone alone for so long. I want something like BBM that can run in the background and give me a notification when someone is trying to chat with me.

It really gives a nice sense the "back and forth" of real life conversation...and to also help distinguish one's own comments from those of the person one is conversing with...particularly if there's no actual photo in the phone book to show the person (you can still see the back and forth pattern Seems like such a great idea and so simple to implement! Why the heck can't they do that on our Android phone?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was a huge advocate for ebuddy, but the app doesn't support Froyo, and I'm using a 2.2 rom. So, I'm hoping one of you can recommend an instant messaging app to try out. I've tried a few and can't find one I like.
ebuddy: No froyo support
Meebo: Blows. Constant disconnects.
IM+: No longer supported
What I need:
1. AIM, Facebook, GChat, MSN
2. Remain signed in 24/7
3. Froyo support

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was playing with my friend's G1 when I noticed a native, Android IM app. So I searched around my DROID and found nothing. What I want to know is where did it go? Why don't I have it? Where can I get it, and what would be the best solution without it?
Note: I would primarily use AIM.
I am making an IM application for Android. The application consists of a server and client, both residing on the android. At startup, the applications register with a webserver. If a client wants to send an IM to a server behind a NAT router, how this be done? I heard of stun4j and jstun but found nowhere an example of their usage in android.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have seen other devices (such as the HTC Hero) that have an app called IM, to my understanding this is the Stock Instant Messaging application. Is there any way I could get it on my Vibrant? I really want to try it and see if it can replace eBuddy.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having another problem with my milestone that I'd like to share with developers and Android coders: Whenever I run memory-intensive applications while I have an IM app running in the background, the IM app is often killed without any user notification whatsoever.Take this scenario for instance (works every time on my Milestone): A few background apps are already running: Sipdroid, Locale, Titanium Backup's service... 2. Launch Nimbuzz (or Fring, eBuddy or Meebo - it's reproducible on all of them) 3. Use lots of memory - for instance with a browser (open lots of windows will full desktop sites), or by launching multiple memory- intensive applications at once (Maps Navigation or other navigation apps work well)

I was comparing the Moment with the Intercept (for my daughter) and wondered whether the Moment had chat style messaging or not. I see the Intercept does, but the Moment seemed like a nicer phone (better screen, more responsive). I know the Moment is EOL, but for my daughter's purposes I'm not worried about this. If it doesn't do chat style texting, is there an app/widget that allows this on the Moment?
View 20 Replies View RelatedSecond, is it possible to ad 'GROUP CHAT' in the stock messaging app? Go SMS allows this currently but it's a very slow app. Stock messaging app works great, so it would be great if it could become a possibility.
FYI: My current phone is Evo LTE.
I was wondering if there was a mod/tweak out there that would let me put group chat on the default messaging app. I know about go sms and handscent sms, but each has its own problem. I have a Verizon GS3 and was hoping there was a way to do this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst thread on here so hopefully this is not a duplicate (I did a search and nothing came up for this app) and is actually useful (just thought I'd share the love ). Anyways stumbled across an app less than a week ago called "Hanashi Chat". You should be able to find it on the Market, just search for "Hanashi". It's a messaging app made by Sony Ericsson and you can find more about it here:Hanashi - mobile chat client. But just a short overview, this is so far an Android exclusive messaging app. Once you get the thing sorted and ready to go, it'll look through your contacts and see which of your friends are already using it. You can then text with your friends (using 3G or WiFi), voice chat, send photos and music, etc. You can also share your locations with all contacts or individual contacts (just tinker in settings under "Profile") and it'll show you on the map approx. where each of you are and give you a distance of how far apart you are. I guess if I was to relate this app to something I'd say it's a mix of MSN and BBM.Haven't tried out all the features, so if you come across something cool about the app that I didn't mention, please to let others know. And just out of curiosity, do you guys think it's better for this app to stay Android exclusive (to entice people to convert to an Android if it does become successful) or have it cross platform (so you can chat with your iPhone and BlackBerry friends)?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhats the scoop behind which one is really better? The stock messaging app or aftermarket apps (handcent and chomp). I use Handcent, and lately I have been finding it to be quite laggy and slow, even with cache cleared and all threads deleted. Is the only difference between stock and aftermarket, the fact that you can customize? I would much rather have a plain looking stock app that performs well, then a customizable aftermarket app that is slow. I am just looking for some opinions.
