Samsung Captivate :: Touch Screen Compared To HTC's Touch Screen?
Jul 17, 2010
Just a quick question about the Captivate. I just got myself an HTC Aria and I love how easy it is to use the touch screen on it. Its extremely responsive. Now my sister has the SamSung Instinct on Sprint and the touch screen is horrible compared to HTCs touch on the Aria. Im thinking about taking the HTC back to AT&T and getting the Samsung Captivate. I am just worried about the touch screen on it and if it will be like the Instincts? If the touch is as good as HTCs Ill get it. If its not, then Ill stick with the Aria because despite its size, its an extremely fun and responsive phone. Any thoughts?

Okay so here is another strange thing I noticed with the update.2 of the 3 phones that got the update now have a little home icon on the bottom of one of the touchwiz screens when you are in the edit mode. This page with the home icon can now be moved to whereever you want it in the positioning of the 1-7 screens you have and when you click on the "home" key at the very bottom it will go to that screen. Previously there was no home key and your home screen was either the middle or far left screen depending on the number of screens you had.

Ok time for the next issue with this phone. Has anyone noticed a general lag between touch screen presses and actions/sounds?
The best examples are:
1) I type fast, and keep the click sound when I type. I can literally hear about a 1/4 second to 1/2 second lag between when I press the buttons and when the sound clicks.
2) Download any free piano or drum up and try to keep a steady beat. There's a nasty lag between when you tap the screen and when the sound comes out.
For comparison, the keyboard and piano app on my old iphone (3G no less), work perfectly. And my iPad is wonderfully smooth.
Is this a software issue, or a problem with my phone?
Musical Lite is a good sample program for free if anyone wants to try this out.

Went into test mode to check out the battery. And through my curiosity went into the 'touch-fw update', and now I can't use my phone. I have the touchscreen lock so can't unlock it, otherwise maybe I could use the keyboard or the optical joystick to use the phone. Is there any way to fix this? I might attempt a hard reset, but saw on another forum, that it's unfixable. I bought it at Best Buy and they aren't even open tomorrow, would another Best Buy or Sprint store exchange it if I can't fix it?

First of all I searched and couldn't find anything on this. Is anyone else having an issue with the screen not being very accurate? The on screen keyboard seems fine for me, but choosing something such as a link in the web browser is a little off on my phone.
An example would be opening www.wsmv.com (my local news), then trying to click on news on the left hand side...instead of news, it will choose what is below it (in this case weather). I thought it was my fat fingers, but others who have tried my phone experience the same issue. I was just wondering if it was just me? Any way to calibrate the screen?

For example, I can scroll a page but when I stop and hold my finger on the screen, it moves about very jittery even though my finger is not even moving. It can be annoying at times when I want the screen to be steady.
Has anyone else had this problem? BTW, I do have a clear screen protector on my screen, could that be part of the problem?

Does anyone else's touch screen become unresponsive when the Epic is being charged? My touch screen gets glitchy and only responds to a fraction of touches.
I just received mine yesterday and I've already spent more than 6 hours trying to troubleshoot this issue. Most of the google searches that I've found have to do with cheap 3rd party chargers, but I'm using the OEM Samsung charger.
I thought it might be the charger, so I went out and purchased 4 different chargers today, but none of them fix the issue.
I also ordered another Epic for my wife at the same time, and her Epic has the same problem, which suggests that it's not a defective phone (unless they both came from the same batch).
To confuse things even more, I've been able to isolate 2-3 outlets in the house where this problem doesn't happen. The problem also doesn't happen when I charge at work, through a car charger, or via USB from the laptop.
I'm inclined to think it has something to do with the outlets in the house. However, I've never heard of any issue like that and the house is relatively new (built in '98).

As far as I understand, Android and the Galaxy touch screen is not meant to be calibrated; at least, there does not seem to be a user interface for doing so (this is also true of the tilt and compass sensors, and yet various apps include their own calibration methods.)
The trouble is that I frequently --perhaps 40% of the time-- hit the key to the right of the one I meant to type. That is, I get an "M" instead of an "N", a "Z" when I intended to shift into uppercase, and so on. One might argue that I just need to get used to this teensy keyboard, but I might argue that a good user interface should get used to me. Is there anything that can be done?

I dropped my phone and the screen won't turn on and doesn't respond to touch. The insurance company is picking it up tomorrow (*hence the urgency) and would like to get some stuff off it. Most stuff is on my exsd, so I'm not too worried if I have to wipe it, but would prefer only to wipe it once everything is off. I'm rooted and have a custom stock based rom and cwm installed.
Is there any way of doing this? I have the lock pattern enabled so when I plug it in nothing shows up.
If not, then how would I wipe it?

I bought a new droid for $20 haha lucky i think until i notice that the touch screen only works for the middle of the screen to the left so if yu cut the screen into thirds only the middle and left work assuming that yu cut it from top to bottom with the lights at the bottom for the home button etc. I opened it up cleaned all the flex cable with alcohol and waited for it to dry and it still does the same thing so my question is = do i need a new digitizer or is it a software problem or something that i dont even know?

This is a HUGE problem!
During a call, when I put the phone by my left ear, my ear and/or my cheek touch the screen, and though one would expect the buttons on the touch screen to be disabled during a call, when held against the ear and the face, I keep accidentally hanging up calls or in some other occasions, muting, having frustrated monologues to myself, thinking that the other person is ignoring me...
I mentioned using the left ear, because, it seems to have always happened when I held the phone by my left ear and not when I held it by my right ear.
I'm trying to find a more elegant solution, as dropping numerous calls is not an option. (today I dropped more than 15 calls). Any suggestions?

Anyone know of a widget to simply lock the screen or put into sleep mode by pressing something on the screen rather than pressing the power button on the top of the phone. Tried looking around and unless I'm missing something (I am particularly good at missing the obvious!) there doesn't seem to be anything that does just that. Anyone know/come across anything that will do this? Does anyone know if this might be included in 2.2?

I'm actually usually lurking on the HTC Incredible forums, and had originally found a greatly informative article about the new touch screen tech the EVO 4g and Inc will be using.
Does anyone have a site book marked talking about how it's different, how it works, and how it compares to other screens? I know there was an article, and a video of a woman using the technology on a big screen, it looked great. I wanted to show it off...it really is some amazing technology.

My wife and I are looking at the Evo. It will be the first touch screen either one of us has owned. My wife has long finger nails. Will she get by with touching the screen with her nail or will she need to actually use her finger? This could be a deal breaker for her.

my Evo's screen will lock up...by that I mean the phone continues to function if I get a call or text, but I can't press any buttons or anything else on the screen (I'm still on v2.1). I can press the Power button and it brings up the power options dialog, but I'm unable to select any option or dismiss it. Usually if I wait a few minutes the screen will eventuall unfreeze and allow normal operation, but on a couple of occasions I had to pull the battery. Coming from the Palm Pre I'm used to this kind of crap, but I was hoping I left it behind me. Is there a way to reboot the phone just using the hard keys (i.e., some combination of Power + volume)? This would be an acceptable workaround...in fact, I would pay for an app that would turn the Power button into a "power off" button with a long press (hold the key down for 10 seconds and it turns off the phone). Otherwise, this is just annoying, but so far I'm living with it.

I have a Qware TB-9718D tablet (rebrand of ployer-momo11-speed) with RK3066 CPU and Android 4.04.
I've installed the CWM-ROM-Ployer_Momo11_3-0-8_M1_software_chinese-version_4-2-2_20130425-4-2& CWM ROM (Android 4.2.2) on the tablet and it boots just fine.
However, the touch screen does not seem to work anymore with this ROM. I have tried two touch screen fixes (which were suggested on another site): one of which was the 907c_compatibility_1.2.0.zip
How to fix the touch screen with this ROM? Could I for example extract the touch screen driver from the original ROM's lib folder and use it in this new ROM?

If there is an app or menu option to turn the touch screen on & off. Sometimes when I'm watching videos while holding the phone in my hand, if I get distracted for a second (say someone comes up and talks to me) and I move the phone, the slightest brush of my hands near the screen plays havoc with the video I'm watching. I'd like a way to temporarily toggle the touch screen on/off, say with volume/base button combination or something.
