Samsung I7500 : Calibration Of Touch Screen / Not User Interface
Sep 9, 2009
As far as I understand, Android and the Galaxy touch screen is not meant to be calibrated; at least, there does not seem to be a user interface for doing so (this is also true of the tilt and compass sensors, and yet various apps include their own calibration methods.)
The trouble is that I frequently --perhaps 40% of the time-- hit the key to the right of the one I meant to type. That is, I get an "M" instead of an "N", a "Z" when I intended to shift into uppercase, and so on. One might argue that I just need to get used to this teensy keyboard, but I might argue that a good user interface should get used to me. Is there anything that can be done?

Is there such a thing for the HTC desire? also, is there a app that lets you see how many multi touch points the htc desire has? i saw some youtube vids where that have this app and they put as many fingers as they can on the screen and scribble around.

My phone should be delivered shortly, and I'm trying to decide what user interface I want to use. I'm new to Android and this is also my first smart phone. Can someone tell me what the advantages and disadvantages of these two user interfaces are?

Just a quick question about the Captivate. I just got myself an HTC Aria and I love how easy it is to use the touch screen on it. Its extremely responsive. Now my sister has the SamSung Instinct on Sprint and the touch screen is horrible compared to HTCs touch on the Aria. Im thinking about taking the HTC back to AT&T and getting the Samsung Captivate. I am just worried about the touch screen on it and if it will be like the Instincts? If the touch is as good as HTCs Ill get it. If its not, then Ill stick with the Aria because despite its size, its an extremely fun and responsive phone. Any thoughts?

After using 2.0 from mustymod for few times/days, I have thinking that update to 2.0 maybe not best idea for me.
2.0 from mustymod has better responsive for user's operation, less lag felling. better google apps and later android apps. adyno show around 130ms. But smooth felling may changed after full function come out, since it means more service will running background.
Galaxo that i used till now is little lag while user input. outdated google apps. adyno show around 220ms.
But it can be improved if Drakaz keep updating it with new idea(maybe from xda). and it did have full functions. My daily used apps & data is on it now, and some of them can not running under 2.0. udpate galaxo will keep my data going, no needs to wipe/reset.
My conclusion is, while Drakaz trying to modding 2.0, I wish he can find out why 2.0 is running better on Galaxy and porting it back to Galaxo. My wish is keep Galaxo going till 2.0/2.1 stable & more market apps support it.

I am looking for some answers from some of the experts here. I have a project in mind that I want to start. It is about using HTC's Touch HD phone as a device in a museum with rich media/video about the art and the artists on it. Besides the videos and animation, I also want to show some content from a web browser. Now my biggestest issue. I do not want that the museum guest who pick up the phone for the tour get to see the standard Android user interface. Is there a way to develop a new user interface that would start up directly once the phone is turned on? It should then automatically start the app with the museum infos. Later I may want to add some GPS functions and even sms and photo taking, etc....
What do you think, how flexible is Android to allow that?

In Android, how can I replace the user interface of an emulator by my own interface? I would like to start my own interface immediately as the emulator gets started and that the user can't use the original interface but the original interface is on the background.
Update:
Now my code looks like this...
As I run the program, Eclipse displays
ActivityManager: Warning: Activity not started, its current task has been brought to the front. Does anyone knows why?

we are looking for the BEST or the industry standard tool for designing visualization for mobile! We have a very complex social network site that we want to design for mobile and in the past created our visualizations/user interface for PC in photoshop and dreamweaver than presented to our coders to build. We struggled to repeat this successful approach for mobile and are now looking for the most effective methods or tools.

Is there a place where I could find open source examples of User Interfaces for android apps. Like a project containing custom buttons, isons, sound effect, a nice layout with multiple blank activities that serves as a skin for your app. Strangely I didn't find anything like this whereas there are plenty of themes.

I need that my user interface haves 3 sections
NORTH SECTION: four textviews with info about a user MIDDLE SECTION: a googlemap view with the position of the user SOUTH SECTION: a textview with time of last position, and a button to actualice the position (retrieving it from a database)
is this possible? i can't find any information about that on google or android developers guide...

We are developing a software suite that heavily involves user interaction. We'd like to have a nice touch-based user interface, very similar to that of Android. Are there any libraries or other ways to easily build and use such user interfaces for own applications. We mainly develop in C++, but things in Python or Java or even something web-based..

I bricked my phone 1 year ago. I tried today to reflash it,and guess what? it worked, but there is a huge problem:
As you see in the pictures, the screen is almost destroyed,I think the ratio and/or the resolution is wrong.
The rom is the stock one,but with recovery installed. The touch is also screwed.
1: How can I restore the original ratio?
2: Tried to reflash it,no success: the vcom connected, then after 1 second disconnected. What is the problem?I was working about 30 minutes ago(before the first reflash)

Preferably being able to load color profiles like sRGB or Adobe RGB directly. I'm not reffering to simple RGB settings or Gamma tweaking.
The reason I'm asking is that I work in 16 bit float mostly and got a perfectly calibrated IPS NEC nicely working with a 12bit LUT and also 2 calibrated TN panel screens.
The final image goes to 8bit PNGs and JPGs with sRGB embedded. Now the difference between the final outcome on the IPS screen and the TN ones and the one displayed on 4 different android mobile phones I got available for testing is extremely big. So big, that just everything is off. I thought that embedding color profiles might cause this but using other common profiles or none at all still were extremely off.
I'd like to point out that the image is not necessarily bad, it's just wrong knowing how the end result looks on perfectly calibrated monitors at home or at work.
I'm just surprised that there is close to no information available on how to properly view imagery with embedded profiles considering that the internet is full of fancy mobile phone screen tests and benchmarks nitpicking every single micro millimeter on a screen light years away from normal use conditions. (At least they don't take into account that probably 60-80% of the images average users view on their mobiles are crappily compressed Facebook .jpgs and the rest photographs shot on mobile cameras..but that's not what the thread is about.)
Is there really no way to counter factory presets? It's like with TVs on factory or even worse shop presets with shiny oversaturated colors and crushed contrasts, but on TVs you got the chance to turn the crap off at last.

Has anyone else noticed how poorly aligned the camera shots are when using Google Goggles? When I click that button to take a picture it's NEVER lined up like it was before. It's even more obvious if I use the crop feature.I can point at a logo and crop it perfectly and hold the phone absolutely still and press the button. When it shows the processing screen it looks like the camera shot is a couple inches below where it showed on the previous camera screen.

Ok time for the next issue with this phone. Has anyone noticed a general lag between touch screen presses and actions/sounds?
The best examples are:
1) I type fast, and keep the click sound when I type. I can literally hear about a 1/4 second to 1/2 second lag between when I press the buttons and when the sound clicks.
2) Download any free piano or drum up and try to keep a steady beat. There's a nasty lag between when you tap the screen and when the sound comes out.
For comparison, the keyboard and piano app on my old iphone (3G no less), work perfectly. And my iPad is wonderfully smooth.
Is this a software issue, or a problem with my phone?
Musical Lite is a good sample program for free if anyone wants to try this out.

Went into test mode to check out the battery. And through my curiosity went into the 'touch-fw update', and now I can't use my phone. I have the touchscreen lock so can't unlock it, otherwise maybe I could use the keyboard or the optical joystick to use the phone. Is there any way to fix this? I might attempt a hard reset, but saw on another forum, that it's unfixable. I bought it at Best Buy and they aren't even open tomorrow, would another Best Buy or Sprint store exchange it if I can't fix it?

First of all I searched and couldn't find anything on this. Is anyone else having an issue with the screen not being very accurate? The on screen keyboard seems fine for me, but choosing something such as a link in the web browser is a little off on my phone.
An example would be opening www.wsmv.com (my local news), then trying to click on news on the left hand side...instead of news, it will choose what is below it (in this case weather). I thought it was my fat fingers, but others who have tried my phone experience the same issue. I was just wondering if it was just me? Any way to calibrate the screen?

For example, I can scroll a page but when I stop and hold my finger on the screen, it moves about very jittery even though my finger is not even moving. It can be annoying at times when I want the screen to be steady.
Has anyone else had this problem? BTW, I do have a clear screen protector on my screen, could that be part of the problem?
