I'm really struggling between the EVO and the iphone 4.My HTC Touch Pro looked shiny when I bought it a year and a half ago, and now it feels obsolete. I can barely use it for more that texting/phone, far less than the device promised. In the time I've had it, there was one update which mostly just fixed bugs. And in my other pocket I have a first generation ipod touch that feels superior in every way, except the phone part.I have no confidence in HTC's ability to support it's products and improve them over time, Apple does do this, my ipod touch is better than when I bought it four years ago. But the EVO runs android and it looks like that is something that is going to develop over time. Will the device be able to rely on android in that way? I'm already seeing people suggest that HTC will lag behind android updates because they'll fail to update their android skins in a timely manner. Can the EVO run on just android if that UI experience turns out to be better than what HTC can offer?
My other primary concern is itunes syncing. I have dozens of 'smart playlists' that I've pretty carefully designed to change and improve with my listening habits, and all of my podcasts sync through itunes. Also, I've been using 'itunes U' to listen to full courses and my itunes is set up so that every time I sync my finished lectures are replaced with the next in the series.... So, I'm sure many of you have seen the EVO "tutorial" showing you how to load music onto the device, literally just dumping files onto the devices hard drive, that is effing laughable. Is there a reasonable way to sync and listen to music on the EVO?

I know this gets asked from time to time, just thought I would ask to see if anything has changed. Is there a current or an announced future of hardware similar in size and price to the Ipod Touch that supports Android 2.X?My guess is that the answer is no. Apple can sell it at low margin because of the Itunes store lock in, which is not applicable to sellers of Android hardware.

I am currently using a dumb phone and an iPod Touch for my mobile needs. I was hoping Apple would come out with a Verizon model, but that may or may not ever happen. I have been reading about the new Droid X and have been impressed with what I've read. However, I have a number of apps on my iPod that I use on a regular basis and am wondering how happy I would be with what's available for the Droid.I am using Gmail, so that's not a problem. I use Apple's address book and have not been satisfied with the way Google handles that, so I would need to be able to sync my contacts to Apple. I have tons of music and audio books in iTunes, I have a number of books from Audible.com, and I use Fluent News for the iPod for my newspaper fix (along with an AP app, the NY Times, and USA Today). I have a diet program that keeps my meals on the iPod, not on the web, and allows me to quickly enter without any fuss the foods I eat and gives me a balance of how many calories I have left (and allows me to customize the food bank without having to scan through hundreds of foods I don't eat). I have a few e-books from Project Gutenberg that I read on Stanza, though any e-book program that would allow me to access them would work fine. I also keep my ToDo list on Toodledo and use their iPod app to access it on the move.
Have any of you made the move from an iPod or iPhone to a Droid? How happy are you with the apps. Would the Droid have apps that would give me what I have above (not the same developers, of course, but something comparable)? I've done some reading and my son-in-law let me play with an older model Droid, but before I invest, I would like to know more. I can return the Droid X to Verizon within 30 days with a re-stocking fee, so a switch that didn't work wouldn't be devastating, but I hate to invest the time if I don't have a good chance of being satisfied.

Just a quick question about the Captivate. I just got myself an HTC Aria and I love how easy it is to use the touch screen on it. Its extremely responsive. Now my sister has the SamSung Instinct on Sprint and the touch screen is horrible compared to HTCs touch on the Aria. Im thinking about taking the HTC back to AT&T and getting the Samsung Captivate. I am just worried about the touch screen on it and if it will be like the Instincts? If the touch is as good as HTCs Ill get it. If its not, then Ill stick with the Aria because despite its size, its an extremely fun and responsive phone. Any thoughts?

I am used to doing my music and playlists through Itunes. Now that I have my EVO, I would like to use my EVO as my music player instead of carrying my phone and iPOD everywhere. Please help me and suggest the proper apps to use to allow me to create and save playlists as well as a good music player.

I'm a soon to be Android owner and will probably start using this forum often, but I currently have an iPod Touch. I'm upgrading from my Blackberry Storm (for obvious reasons) to the HTC Incredible. So I'm having a tough time deciding if I should sell my iPod Touch when I get the Incredible. Is the music player as user friendly and high quality as the iPod's? How is the browser speed over WiFi?

I see a previous question about the fact that the Blue tooth technology on an iphone will only allow it to pair with the Nike shoe thing and some kind of head set, and will not allow it to pair to the Droid for transferring files or even to access internet. So, is there a way to use the wireless capabilities of the Droid to share its internet connection since the ipod touch can also use wi-fi? I don't have an ipod touch or I'd try it but I'd like to buy one (for the wife) and if we're in the car, she can use my droid's Verizon signal to get on the internet with the ipod torch's wi-fi capabilities.

I've been wondering, after I upgrade from the Moment to another Android phone in the future, and no longer have Sprint service on the Moment, can the Moment be used on wifi to browse Internet, check email, play games, etc?
In other words, like how the iPod Touch can be used without service, or a jailbroken iPhone.

I bought the droid, love it (using it as a wifi enabled media player with tons of apps), and can still return it penalty free, but am not impressed with the call quality. I am thinking about either getting the ipod touch, dropping the verizon service and using the droid, or getting the archos 5. I dont need GPS, phone, or the camera. I have a few questions.
1 Is this a stupid idea? I can get a 64gb ipod touch for $399. The 16gb droid will be $375 after early termination penalty.
2 How will it function without verizon? I will only be using data downloads where WIFI is enabled, everywhere else it will just be a stand alone media player.
3 I would like to use skype over WIFI. The skype lite app for droid does not allow that. Does the ipod touch require you to use an accessory with a microphone?
4 Battery power. I read on these forums that turning off the droid does not stop the battery from draining. If i turn the droid off and dont use it for a week, will it be dead?
5 How about Archos?

I've got no wireless network at work, but sometimes want to connect my ipod touch to the itunes store to get new tunes. I've heard it's possible to use the 3G on my hero to route my ipod touch and get online - is this true? And if so, anyone know how it's done?

I'm thinking about my situation right now. I have an iPod touch 3rd gen 32 gigs. I have it jailbroken with Installous, so I am constantly downloading apps trying them out, then removing them.I recently purchased the Magellan iPhone dock to make the iPod a GPS unit. Since the Incredible has free Nav, I don't see the need to have to use the Touch.I only have about 10 gigs worth of music, so I could get a 16 gig card and fit all my music and Howard Stern on it. I would think with the left over that comes on the phone I can install the apps I want (wifi tether, google maps, the weather channel, maybe some sort of document reader if not loaded already).I don't want to use my phone for games, so maybe that is a reason for me to keep it. I don't really play games too much, but I do from time to time. I don't know if it is worth keeping another device to do it though.I want everyone's advice. I really hate carrying my phone and my ipod in regular clothing, so I would hate to carry the Incredible and the iPod touch.

I have an unlocked, unbranded Hero (bought without a SIM, currently being used with a 3 UK SIM) and am waiting (patiently) for notification when an update is available. Nothing has arrived on my phone and I can't see anything relevant on the HTC Support website. Meanwhile I understand that many Hero users have already been able to upgrade and so have presumably experienced the pros and cons of the upgrade. Googling for information I find a number of reports of "issues", especially with the Sprint version of the Hero. Do people generally find that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Have somewhat limited exposure but what I do have on Android Apps is not positive. The Apple Apps store is far superior to what you get with AppBrain and Market. The Android Apps always give a very vague and sketchy description, next to impossible to get details of what it does.I bought Bettercut and Cashbook - Expense Tracker, both sucked in a big way.Already uninstalled both. The open architecture of Android is a great concept and I love my DroidX.I hope the apps come along soon to make the whole thing complete.

Ok, my question here is about the speed in which the Androids operate. I have a HTC Hero, I have it rooted and running the Fresh 1.1 ROM and the more I play with it, the more I don't like it. I work at a Verizon franchise and get to play with the Moto Droid all day and it is amazing at how much quicker it is. So, what I am asking is, is there antother DROID powered device besides the Nexus One that puts out similar speeds? And is there one for Sprint that is coming out soon or rumored to be atleast?

My website uses jQuery and the it's main feature uses a loop. On the desktop, all 3 browsers (GC, FF, IE11) executes the loop approx. 1,100 times a minute. On Windows Phone, it does 1,000 times a minute, a bit slower. But on Android in particular, it only gets about 500, and the UI updating is slow. I don't know about iPhone.why my jQuery is running much slower on Android then the rest of the platforms I've tested?

Out of curiosity, I'd like to know how good Mono for Android is compared to writing apps for the DVM.
Mono for Android allows you to use C# and the .NET Base Class Library (BCL) to write native Android applications. This is accomplished by executing applications in an instance of the Mono runtime VM, which co-exists on devices along with Google's Dalvik VM.

I have update our game to be able to handle devices with rotated screens (http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/09/one-screen- turn-deserves-another.html#links). I used a Motorola Flipout as a reference device and that one works great. The problem is that when the update with that fix came out I started to get reports that our game had stopped working for Dell Streak.
Do anyone know if there are special problems with screen rotation related to accelerometer output on Dell Streak?
And do anyone know what Dell Streak returns on the android.view.Display.getRotation() function call?

So the milestone and droid run a 550mhz processor, correct me if i am wrong, and that can be overclocked to run faster.
But with the new phones like the Supersonic, and the Scorpian from HTC running at the 1.5ghz does that mean those phones will stomp out the speed compared to the droid. Does that make them better phones?
Since the Nexus One runs a 1ghz as well, does that make it faster than the droid?
