I did a search in the captivate forums and couldn't find this one. I'm trying to set the tone for text notifications.If I go to Settings>Sound>Notification Ringtone it only gives me the pre-loaded sounds.If i go to the sound file in my phone and click "set as" it only gives me options for voice call ringtone, caller ringtone, and alarm tone.

can you set custom texting tones while texting? say i press the letter "A" can i make it play a sound as i press that letter?
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust picked this up yesterday and I'm very impressed. This is my first droid phone and it blows away the other phones I've owned in the past. Not really a fan of the iPhone and have been on AT&T forever..it's time for a change. My last phone was a Nokia E72 which is a great phone, but wanted more! Gonna put that on E-bay soon hah.
The only complaints I have so far are the notification sounds are quiet even at the max volume setting. The Nokia E72 is a lot louder both in ringtone and sms tones. Also, the four buttons on the bottom sometimes don't respond. I find I have to occasionally hit the same button a couple times to get it to work. Very minor tho imo. It's not too frequent.
Now that we're a month in to the official 2.1. Is there a way to have individual alert tones for different SMS contacts, just like you can have different ringtones for voice contacts?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded and installed Ring droid. I have converted one or two songs to ring tones. Ring droid will allow you to assign that ring tone to a contact at the time you make the ring tone. What I can't figure out is how do you change ring tones for any other individuals? I thought you would go into contacts and there would be an option there, but not. So, I went back to Ring droid and the only way I can find to add a custom ring tone there is to convert the same song again. So now I have three copies of the same ring tone. There has got to be a better way. I know I am knew to the Captivate, but this seems like something that would be a no briner (which I have been accused of being).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the Android Software and just purchased the Samsung Captive. I was needing to know, can you have full songs as rings tones when receiving incoming calls. I was able to with my bb bold and it was easy.. But Im having trouble trying to figure it out. just when I think I got it my songs are listed in settings -sounds & display- under notification ring tone and not under my voice call ring tone in sounds & display settings. if anyone can direct me on the "how to process" I'd really appreciate it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got my Captivate about a week ago and some far I am liking it a lot. However, I thought I was having some battery issues, as my phone is draining faster than my brother's iPhone.
Using one of the battery status widgets, I've noticed that my batter drops about 1 percent for every text that send and receive (send one text+receive one text = 1% drain) meaning that I'd only be able to send about 100 texts in a day on a full charge. Most days I don't reach that but there are some days which are pretty text heavy. Is this a normal rate at which the battery should be draining for doing something like that? I am using Juicedefender and Advanced Task Killer to monitor what is going on, and the only widget I have running is Fancy Widget.
I can text anyone outside my area code, but when I try it with anyone in my area code I get a message that says to use the proper 10 digit phone number. I understand what that means, and have the 10 digit numbers programed for all my contacts, but when I hit on a contact and hit the text button only the 7 digit number comes up. That works fine with voice calls, but not with texting. I've been through my phone 20 times trying to find a way to make it use a 10 digit number for texting, can't find it.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a fascinate today and it's pretty solid, however I noticed that when I try to set a custom picture for the background, it won't let me select the whole picture and it zooms in ridiculously too much. Now, I've tried almost everything, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me?Oh, if you have the fascinate, download handscent for messaging. I had a blackberry before the fascinate and it's similar to the crunch sms for blackberry. It's convenient because it allows you to customize the length of the vibrations and led lights, but the fascinate doesn't seem to have led light capability. It also allows you to customize the bubbles a well as the colors per contact and all that. Definitely something to look into.

When I navigate to the MP3 that I want as my ringtone, I tap the menu button to find the "Set as" option, but that option seems to have been removed altogether! Am I missing something here, or have AT&T and/or Samsung decided that we're not allowed to set our personal MP3's as ringtones and therefore are forced to either do without, or buy them from wherever? Has anyone figured out a workaround and/or fix to this problem?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy work email works great on my Captivate for incoming, but because of some weird settings at work, I cannot use the outgoing server. As a workaround, I want to set up my incoming as my work address, and then make my outgoing account on that email as a totally separate gmail account. This does not seem to work, so I created a separate account for my outgoing and that worked, but the problem with that is, when I try to "reply" to my incoming mail it does not work because the outgoing is set up on a separate email account rather than on the same one. Is there a way I can make my outgoing a completely separate SMTP than my incoming on the same account?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a search on this and found some posts on it but the wording was a bit different and there didn't seem to be any solutions.On my Captivate, I have all my contacts synced from my pc's google account. So when I click on Phone, Contacts, all my contacts have the google logo next to the phone number. When I click on Groups, it shows Family, Friends, Google, etc. It has zero contacts in all groups except for 30 contacts in my Google groups. (which is all the contacts I have in my phone.)On my friends Captivate, he doesn't have his contacts synced from Google. He goes into his Contacts, Groups and can click on Family or Friends and can add people from his contacts to the Family or Friends group. I can't do this cause all my contacts are synced from Google.Is there a work around for this? Hope I made sense to someone.

On my BB I could start typing any info associated with a contact ie. company, first name, last name, phone number and it would automatically start showing any contacts that matched as I typed. On my Captivate I can only search phone number and name. My problem is that I have so many business contacts that I often forget the people's names associated with the business' I work with. Is there a setting that I can change that would allow me to search any info I have in a contact, or is this just how the Captivate searches.

It's only doing a one-way sync - events from my Google calendar are syncing to my phone but events created on my phone are not syncing to my calendar.
Is there a setting that I'm missing somewhere?
