Aug 28, 2010Purchased my Samsung Captivate about 2 weeks ago. I was told that you can speak to text, I did the setting for text to speech. No were do they have a microphone to speak to text.

Aug 2, 2010Love the feature to invoke Speech-to-text on the android keyboard by pushing the microphone icon and saying your text message instead of writing it. However, I prefer the Samsung keyboard and swype over android keyboard for actual typing. is there a way to invoke speech-to-text on the other keyboards as well? Long-pressing the search Captivate button only invokes Google voice search.

I'm trying to set the tone for text notifications.If I go to Settings>Sound>Notification Ringtone it only gives me the pre-loaded sounds.If i go to the sound file in my phone and click "set as" it only gives me options for voice call ringtone, caller ringtone, and alarm tone.

Aug 7, 2010I got my Captivate about a week ago and some far I am liking it a lot. However, I thought I was having some battery issues, as my phone is draining faster than my brother's iPhone.
Using one of the battery status widgets, I've noticed that my batter drops about 1 percent for every text that send and receive (send one text+receive one text = 1% drain) meaning that I'd only be able to send about 100 texts in a day on a full charge. Most days I don't reach that but there are some days which are pretty text heavy. Is this a normal rate at which the battery should be draining for doing something like that? I am using Juicedefender and Advanced Task Killer to monitor what is going on, and the only widget I have running is Fancy Widget.
Samsung Captivate :: Texting - Message Says - Use The Proper 10 Digit Phone Number
Nov 1, 2010I can text anyone outside my area code, but when I try it with anyone in my area code I get a message that says to use the proper 10 digit phone number. I understand what that means, and have the 10 digit numbers programed for all my contacts, but when I hit on a contact and hit the text button only the 7 digit number comes up. That works fine with voice calls, but not with texting. I've been through my phone 20 times trying to find a way to make it use a 10 digit number for texting, can't find it.

Will give a hint to the recognizer that you might say those words. However, it appears to do absolutely nothing. It also conflicts with the google documentation which says:
"An ArrayList of the potential results when performing ACTION_RECOGNIZE_SPEECH. Only present when RESULT_OK is returned." This hints that the array is a return value NOT an input.
To test this out try adding: ArrayList< String > potentialResults = new ArrayList< String >(); potentialResults.add("cumin"); and try to get the speech recognizer to recognize it. You will find it very difficult.

Or when I unelected a photo, "Tick box, unticked." Another example of this is when I go onto the Internet on the phone, and I go to a webpage, the phone goes "Page, refreshed." Apr 1, 2010anyone else's phone recently get ridiculously slow while texting? it seems my phone's perfomance has gone to crap. my orientation from horizontal to vertical pauses, and I can't send text after text. it seems like my phone has to stop and think. it used to be really fast, but recently has gotten really bad.
I only have quick settings and ATK for apps, so I don't think it's an app causing problems. could it be the whole data exhange drops? Changing from 1X to EVDO and back and forth?

Sep 12, 2010I have the contacts set up in my starred groups already but can't figure out how to text the contacts in a specific group (e.g. Family, CoWorkers, Friends) from my stock messenger. I can do it using the handcent app and although I have the notification setting off on the stock messenger the message still makes its way to the stock messenger and handcent which I believe would take up twice as much memory on my phone causing it to lagg. if I am wrong in assuming this and what I can do to fix this whether it be the correct way in sending a message to a group or deleting the stock messaging app, etc...

Dropped calls mainly, sometimes 4-6 times during one conversation.My main irritation right now is that if I'm in the text screen or any messaging screen for that matter and I get a call my phone screen goes black and I can't answer it.
