I used the unleash the beast update file and all is well but it put wifi tethering on and it won't work. I want to delete if off the phone but it doesn't show up in apps to delete. I found and installed barnacle wifi and it works great.

Seemed pretty straightforward, but isn't working because I have no update.zip created by ROM Manager. When I did the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" step no update.zip file was created in the internal SD root. Buried in the clockwork mod folder is recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-captivate.zip, do I move this and rename it?
I rooted my captivate and now need to return the phone back to AT&T for a hardware defect - how can i remove root?

Root the Samsung Captivate
First things first. You'll need to root your device to continue with many of the modifications listed below. For our How to Root the Samsung Captivate¯ guide, click here. Its very very easy. Download Update.zip
Plug in your Captivate to your computer. When the phone notifies you that the USB has been plugged in, scroll down your notifications bar and click on USB connected: Select to copy files to/from your computer.¯
Click Mount¯
Now, you'll probably see a popup telling you a new USB drive has been inserted, open it up on your computer. In Windows, click Open folder to view files.¯
Drag Update.zip into the Captivate USB drive (on the top level do not navigate into folders)
Turn off the Captivate (Power Off)
Hold down the Volume Up/Down rocker and the power button until you see some action. Your phone is now booting into recovery.
Use the volume down button to scroll down to Reinstall package
Click the power button to select that option
Enable App Sideloading, AT&T has some weird reservations against app sideloading. That means, AT&T Android users can not use any apps not downloaded on the Android Market. Have no fear! Is there a way where you can remove all your contacts at once? I have them all on Google and want to go ahead and remove all the contacts from my sim card and phone. Then sync my phone with google so they are all current.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf your download fully cancels in the middle, do not resume the download. When you try to resume - the phone will think you want to resume installation [it thinks the download is complete] and will update the phone with the partial firmware download. For those phones that were bricked, that is what was said happened to them - myself included. Now, why would the update not realize the firmware isn't complete and just abort the update is beyond me. Many of us ended up with paperweights from that. Had to go to AT&T to replace the phone last night.
View 28 Replies View RelatedSo my primary computer crashed and I had to reinstall all my programs and restore files from a backup. I had been syncing my Outlook calendar with my Gmail account using Google Calendar Sync which would then sync with my Captivate. When I reinstalled Outlook and synced with Gmail, it created duplicates of all my appointments. The only way to fix this was to delete all my appointments in Gmail and resync. Unfortunately, it didn't remove the duplicates from my phone. In fact, I have triplicates of many appointments. I thought I could just remove the Gmail account from my phone and add it back. Nope, my phone says that it's required by some programs and can only be removed through a factory reset. I thought that maybe I had to have a Gmail account on the phone for it to work so I added another one. I then attempted to delete the original. Nope, still wouldn't let me. Since that wasn't the problem I tried to delete the newly added account. Nope, no can do. So am I understanding correctly that there is no way to remove an account once it's been added without doing a factory reset?

I was told that the reason that I keep seeing the "No update file exists" message when I check "update firmware" is because I have the latest version.
At some point my phone was updated without giving me a message. I did notice the red and blue arrows yesterday. But there was no message. My SD card mounted and dismounted on its own and gave an error message, and then all references to the error and SD card disappeared.
If your phone is/has exhibited this sort of behavior, you may already have the update.
When I bought my Captivate at the AT&T store, they tossed in a free case, which they put on the phone before I could even hold it . This transparent Plastic thing is evil, by which I mean I can't get it off. I'm afraid to take a screwdriver to it because I don't want to risk scratching the phone (that was why I got the case in the first place). Does anyone have experience with "incipio" plastic case? Do you know how to get it off safely? Can I take it in the store and have them do it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to delete this and just have the samsung logo on startup? i already deleted all the preinstalled ATT crap that comes with the phone with titanium backup (i just deleted them did not even backup will never use them anyway. after i did that phone seems to be better for me. also i did delete that annoying swish sound at startup but it also took away the samsung startup sound and i like that one. why is it that everyphone for att has there logo or some other att crap on it but the damn iPhone is the only phone clean without any att crap on it -_- i switched over from iPhone 4 could not be more happy. also is there a way to remove the att logo on the top of the phone im talking about the logo next to the speaker.

View 7 Replies View RelatedUp until today I've had my phone syncing with Google (Contacts and Calendar). Through a bit of searching and work, I've now finally got Kies installed and I want to have my Captivate sync only with Outlook. The problem I see at this point is that if I sync now, I'm basically going to have everything duplicated in my phone. I simply want to remove the Gmail account and all my existing contacts, calendar entries, etc.
When I go into Accounts & Sync, if I attempt to remove gmail, it states that some programs are using this and I'll have to do a factory restore to remove it. This would apparently remove all my downloaded software which I definitely don't want to do. The phone is rooted and enabled for side loading along with all of AT&T's bloatware blown out. Is there another option that I might be missing to remove this? I really want to use Kies and stop using gmail to sync.

Last night, I was performing at a night club and I wanted to send the videos to friends and what not so they can hear our singing. However, the video clips are anywhere from 8-20 seconds long and they are not in HD quality but 3gp. Yet it tells me the message can't be attached because it's too large.
Today I had a show, and my brother recorded me and I wanted to send the video out and it still says the same thing. Is there anything I can do? I love At & T but I am wondering does this have anything to do with their Data cap because when I had my Droid X and Incredible on Verizon. I was able to send videos up to 30 seconds long to phones via MMS but I can't send videos on my Captivate. I couldn't send videos either on the Xperia X10, I had, the aria I had, and now the backflip. (I am just using it because I love motoblur for the social networking, not the phone).
I attempted to import my contacts from my old HTC Touch Pro phone by using an application to export them to a .csv file, then importing them into a gmail account. That part all worked fine. However, when I linked the gmail account and synced up the contact information, there are a couple of problems. First and most important, its not bringing over all of the information. It brought over the contact name, but when you tap on the name, it only shows a gmail link and none of the other information. Second, gmail is using only the first name for the full contact. example: the contact it titled 'George' instead of the person's full name like "Butler, George'. How can I fix these two issues?

Everything seemed ok at first until i went to my homescreen, total blackness. I'm used to good headphones- having owned upper level Sonys and Ultimate Ears. The set that comes with Captivate is fairly mid grade- not awful, but not great either. I've been looking at aftermarket headsets with microphone and there are very few models advertised as compatible with Android phones, but tons of choices for iPhone.I see that many posters here own(ed) iPhones.Do the iPhone headset with microphone work with Captivate as expected? Are there possibly mic sensitivity issues, or some other things I should look out for? Looking to get a set in the $70-$120 range so that I can enjoy my mostly lossless music library.
