I just got my Captivate on Sunday, got it rooted, removed bloatware etc and am a new member of this forum. I searched the forum to make sure it is not a re-post, but I could not find anything. Since I bought Beautiful Widgets to display time and weather I wanted to remove the time from the notification bar. Does anyone know how to do this?

I am running a custom ROM currently that I love and really just want to know if there's a way to dump the clock from the notification bar without flashing a different ROM that offers the capability of doing this. Is there some custom theme apk I can install that will let me fiddle with the stuff in the notification bar? Or is anyone else here running the same ROM I am currently (DocRomV8.ADJP5 w/SetiroN kernel) who knows how to edit/mod the notification bar?

After viewing other peoples screens I've decided to put more thought into how my phone looks, and having the time displayed twice is starting to annoy me, is it possible to remove the time from the notification bar?

I am new to Android and have the following problem: When I get a sms I get a notification in the upper bar. I scroll down the bar and access the sms by clicking on it. Now I can read the incoming sms in the bubble but the notification does not go away. I have to click on the bubble to get the complete sms (even if its only a short text) so the notification goes away.
I think this is really stupid that I have to actually click on the bubble (even if I already can read the whole text) so the notification goes away.
In other words: I want it to act the same way as the iPhone. Is there any way?
Recently I installed BHMAN's 1.6 ROM without TW, and I'm having a problem where sometimes my clock widgets stop refreshing the time.
Now i've searched for this problem and usually the best solution to this is to delete any task managers installed, which I cannot because the task manager is embedded into Home++, so I'm thinking the only way to get rid of the task manager is to delete the whole Home++, correct? I'm using ADW launcher at the moment.

Root the Samsung Captivate
First things first. You'll need to root your device to continue with many of the modifications listed below. For our How to Root the Samsung Captivate¯ guide, click here. Its very very easy. Download Update.zip
Plug in your Captivate to your computer. When the phone notifies you that the USB has been plugged in, scroll down your notifications bar and click on USB connected: Select to copy files to/from your computer.¯
Click Mount¯
Now, you'll probably see a popup telling you a new USB drive has been inserted, open it up on your computer. In Windows, click Open folder to view files.¯
Drag Update.zip into the Captivate USB drive (on the top level do not navigate into folders)
Turn off the Captivate (Power Off)
Hold down the Volume Up/Down rocker and the power button until you see some action. Your phone is now booting into recovery.
Use the volume down button to scroll down to Reinstall package
Click the power button to select that option
Enable App Sideloading, AT&T has some weird reservations against app sideloading. That means, AT&T Android users can not use any apps not downloaded on the Android Market. Have no fear! Is there a way where you can remove all your contacts at once? I have them all on Google and want to go ahead and remove all the contacts from my sim card and phone. Then sync my phone with google so they are all current.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo my primary computer crashed and I had to reinstall all my programs and restore files from a backup. I had been syncing my Outlook calendar with my Gmail account using Google Calendar Sync which would then sync with my Captivate. When I reinstalled Outlook and synced with Gmail, it created duplicates of all my appointments. The only way to fix this was to delete all my appointments in Gmail and resync. Unfortunately, it didn't remove the duplicates from my phone. In fact, I have triplicates of many appointments. I thought I could just remove the Gmail account from my phone and add it back. Nope, my phone says that it's required by some programs and can only be removed through a factory reset. I thought that maybe I had to have a Gmail account on the phone for it to work so I added another one. I then attempted to delete the original. Nope, still wouldn't let me. Since that wasn't the problem I tried to delete the newly added account. Nope, no can do. So am I understanding correctly that there is no way to remove an account once it's been added without doing a factory reset?

I have the adv app killer on there, i turn off bluetooth when not in use, brightness is as low as it will go, no hectic feedback, gps off and yet i still know that by the time i get home unless i charge it in the car, i won't be able to use my phone after work. so, i'd like your guys thoughts on whether it would be worth it to take back to the at&t store and swap it out for a new one?

This transparent Plastic thing is evil, by which I mean I can't get it off. I'm afraid to take a screwdriver to it because I don't want to risk scratching the phone (that was why I got the case in the first place). Does anyone have experience with "incipio" plastic case? Do you know how to get it off safely? Can I take it in the store and have them do it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedGot my captivate today, loving it so far, first experience with Android. I was on the phone with my GF today, talking on my bluetooth headset and I was trying to browse the web while we were talking. My connection (WiFi) was being very flaky, extremely slow, or just plain unable to load anything. Turned wifi off and when I tried to turn it back on, it refused to connect to my network.
When I got off the phone with her, I tried to connect to WiFi again and it worked perfectly fine, full speed. Made a phone call to test it out, same result, WiFi extremely slow or not working at all. At that point I thought there was something wrong with the phone being unable to make a phone call and use WiFi at the same time. Then I decided to try disconnecting my BT headset and it worked perfectly. Right now I'm streaming a video off youtube with a phone call connected, but the second I turn my BT headset on the connection dies.
I go to the trash icon on the email app and go to delete the emails from 2 weeks. It takes FOREVER to delete them all. And I still havent deleted all of them. I go to delete like 4 of them and it takes at least 10 seconds just to delete 4 of them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, while I'm at home, on wifi, everytime I wake my phone up (not sure if it's doing it while it sleeps or not, but battery has gotten worse, so probably) the 3g comes on for about 15 seconds. I see the grey sync arrows come on in the top left. When I pull down the window shade, it pops up a little notification saying something like "phone book contacts are up to date..." or something like that. But it always activates 3g even when I'm on wifi. I even disabled background data and auto-sync and it still did it after I woke it up. Didn't receive my gmail while those were disabled but still tried to sync my phone book with something. Sometimes I can watch it sync the phone book 5 or 6 times in a couple of minute time frame and sometimes I can watch for 10 minutes and it won't sync once...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI will be purchasing the Samsung Captivate tmrw from the AT&T store after work. Planning to pay $379 for the no commitment since I'm not eligible for an upgrade right now. This will be my very FIRST Android phone. I have no experience what so ever. With that being said, I'm a big Blackberry user, and will be coming from the Blackberry Bold 9000. Is anyone here also an ex-blackberry user? How will the transition be? anything I'll be missing from the bb that wont be on the captivate? I love my blackberry, its a great phone, it does what I need with emails in a heart beat. It's just lacking a lot in multimedia and web browsing, and I'm sure I'm probably missing out on a lot of other cool stuff too especially since I'm paying $30 a month for data plan. Emails & Calendars are very important for me. How will the push email be on the Captivate / Android? I handle 4 email accounts with a mix of Gmail and non gmail. As far as calendars go, I have really bad memory so all my dates and important daily task needs to be in my phone. My brother has an iphone 4, it seems great and all, but not to offend anyone, the OS seems kinda "dumbed down" for kids. It seems to lack a lot of options and customization compared to all the options and choices I had on my blackberry. I've read a lot about how the android lets you customize a lot, so hopefully I'll be going in the right path.
View 20 Replies View RelatedMy phone shut off randomly for the first time this morning luckily it didn't shut off early in the morning as I use my captivate as an alarm clock for my 8 am class. Anyway, I was just wondering if I should be worried? I've only had it for two weeks so I can still get a replacement phone but up until today I had no severe problems. Gps worked fine, battery life was good. I do experience some lag at times. For example, I'll click on messages and I'll have a black screen for ten seconds until my messages come up. Just wondering if I should be worried since it shut down for the first time if I end up having to get a replacement phone I feel like I'll only have the same problems since this is a common problem. I don't want to have to get an iphone, to be honest, I played around with it at the apple store the other day and I wasn't impressed. The captivate has so much more features and the home screen on the iphone just bores me. But the iphone works straight out of the box.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOK, after being on the phone with AT&T for 2 hours and being conferenced call with Samsung this is the result:
Samsung claims that *3282# is the Samsung code to lower the notification volume.
Samsung claims that they are now aware that *3282# is the AT&T code to check our data usage.
Because of this conflict, they claim they will send an OTA fix; but will not state when that will be.
AT&T has been receiving many complaints regarding this problem. Samsung claims they have never heard of this before. Apparently they forgot to log in my call last week?
Is there anyway to delete this and just have the samsung logo on startup? i already deleted all the preinstalled ATT crap that comes with the phone with titanium backup (i just deleted them did not even backup will never use them anyway. after i did that phone seems to be better for me. also i did delete that annoying swish sound at startup but it also took away the samsung startup sound and i like that one. why is it that everyphone for att has there logo or some other att crap on it but the damn iPhone is the only phone clean without any att crap on it -_- i switched over from iPhone 4 could not be more happy. also is there a way to remove the att logo on the top of the phone im talking about the logo next to the speaker.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have my phone set to display only numbers on the SIM (or only on the phone.. doesn't really matter) so that in the contacts app and the contacts section of the phone app I don't have duplicates of everything. However, even when this is working correctly, in the contacts section of the text messaging app, it still shows two of everything.
