Samsung Captivate : How To Remove Clock From Notification Bar?
Nov 24, 2010
I am running a custom ROM currently that I love and really just want to know if there's a way to dump the clock from the notification bar without flashing a different ROM that offers the capability of doing this. Is there some custom theme apk I can install that will let me fiddle with the stuff in the notification bar? Or is anyone else here running the same ROM I am currently (DocRomV8.ADJP5 w/SetiroN kernel) who knows how to edit/mod the notification bar?

I just got my captivate about a week ago and have been having issues with my alarm clock. I set my alarm to wake me up every morning. Some mornings I am up before the alarm goes off so I turn it off, or atleast I think I turn it off. When the alarm is on I see the clock in the notification bar. So when I wake up I click the clock icon and turn off the alarm. I no longer see the icon on the notification bar but the alarm seems to go off anyway. The repeat for the alarm is set at "once". I just go in every night and turn it on. It just seems to go off anyway even when it is turned off earlier in the morning.ks

I just got my Captivate on Sunday, got it rooted, removed bloatware etc and am a new member of this forum. I searched the forum to make sure it is not a re-post, but I could not find anything. Since I bought Beautiful Widgets to display time and weather I wanted to remove the time from the notification bar. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have searched in this forum, the XDA-developers forum, and Google at large and cannot find an answer to my question. I would like to know if there is a way to remove the clock from the notification bar. I am rooted (EE 2.0). I have found some devs who were able to remove it from their custom Droid ROMs, and would like to know if it's possible for the Eris. If so, how would I go about doing it?

Looking for ideas. Since this is fairly new to me, I like to have several styles to play around with and didn't want to purchase Beautiful widgets or something similar just yet.

Recently I installed BHMAN's 1.6 ROM without TW, and I'm having a problem where sometimes my clock widgets stop refreshing the time.
Now i've searched for this problem and usually the best solution to this is to delete any task managers installed, which I cannot because the task manager is embedded into Home++, so I'm thinking the only way to get rid of the task manager is to delete the whole Home++, correct? I'm using ADW launcher at the moment.

Anyway to remove it without getting rid of the notification bar entirely? When I started to type this thread a "Here are similar thread we found:" deal came up. (I think that is amazing btw) Only thing is all of those thread were regarding phones that aren't a Samsung Captivate. Also I am running Cognition 2.2 beta 2 if that makes a difference.

I just got my captivate, but have been lurking these forums for a while. After going through the screenshots thread I really like the HTC like clock widgets, but most of the ones posted I cannot find, or my captivate wont let me install them since they are not from the market. Are there any good ones in the market? and if not, what's an easy way to sideload? (I'm currently using retro clock in the meantime)

Has anyone noticed any issues with Snooze on the alarm clock? I had one alarm set to 6:25 with a snooze at 10 min set to go off 5 times. I also set another alarm for 6:45 to snooze every 5 min set to go off 3 times. (I know Im paranoid, but sometimes I accidently turn off my first alarm) Anyways, when I do this, the first alarm set at 6:25 goes off, but when i push snooze, it won't go off in ten minutes like it's supposed to. I've gotten up late for work for 2 days in a row trying to get this thing working by tweaking the settings. I even tried turning off the 6:45 alarm cause I thought they might conflict.
In the end I found that the 6:45 alarm set for 3 total snoozes at 5 min apart seemed to do its proper job. Maybe the extra choices are in the phone, but aren't functioning properly? i.e. snooze gaps >5 min and snooze alarms >3? This is kind of frustrating.
This phone hasn't been giving me a smooth transition from my former iphone 3g... with the lagginess (i'd rather not install apps like Launcher Pro to make my phone home screen transitions smoother), GPS issues (which i seemed to finally fix), bouncing reception bars and lower WIFI detection, and now this alarm clock. Don't even get me started on the dismal choices and quality of the apps I have found in the App store. I hate to say it but I'm pretty close to returning this phone. The screen quality and notifications seem to be the only thing preventing me from going back. Heeeeelp I really don't want to! I need convincing that this phone will leave me satisfied! I really wanted to like Android, but I don't think AT&T wants me to.

Anyone else running into this issue? The alarm goes off on time but pressing snooze or trying to shut it off is ineffective. Even frantically mashing the side buttons and hot keys doesn't stop it. Honestly, I don't even know how I eventually get it to shut off, but I do.
This is not a pleasant way to wake up.

I am new to Android and have the following problem: When I get a sms I get a notification in the upper bar. I scroll down the bar and access the sms by clicking on it. Now I can read the incoming sms in the bubble but the notification does not go away. I have to click on the bubble to get the complete sms (even if its only a short text) so the notification goes away.
I think this is really stupid that I have to actually click on the bubble (even if I already can read the whole text) so the notification goes away.
In other words: I want it to act the same way as the iPhone. Is there any way?

Here you go! Ripped straight from my article: How To: Remove AT&T From Captivate.

Root the Samsung Captivate
First things first. You'll need to root your device to continue with many of the modifications listed below. For our How to Root the Samsung Captivate¯ guide, click here. Its very very easy. Even a total noobie can do it! If you have questions, post a comment and well get back to you A.S.A.P. Look below if you get the idea, check out our How to Root the Samsung Captivate¯ guide if you donte.
Download Update.zip
Plug in your Captivate to your computer. When the phone notifies you that the USB has been plugged in, scroll down your notifications bar and click on USB connected: Select to copy files to/from your computer.¯
Click Mount¯
Now, you'll probably see a popup telling you a new USB drive has been inserted, open it up on your computer. In Windows, click Open folder to view files.¯
Drag Update.zip into the Captivate USB drive (on the top level do not navigate into folders)
Turn off the Captivate (Power Off)
Hold down the Volume Up/Down rocker and the power button until you see some action. Your phone is now booting into recovery.
Use the volume down button to scroll down to Reinstall package
Click the power button to select that option
Enable App Sideloading, AT&T has some weird reservations against app sideloading. That means, AT&T Android users can not use any apps not downloaded on the Android Market. Have no fear! You can remove this restriction easily. Check below for the basic instructions, or click to go to our Enable Captivate App Sideloading¯ guide. Code...

So my primary computer crashed and I had to reinstall all my programs and restore files from a backup. I had been syncing my Outlook calendar with my Gmail account using Google Calendar Sync which would then sync with my Captivate. When I reinstalled Outlook and synced with Gmail, it created duplicates of all my appointments. The only way to fix this was to delete all my appointments in Gmail and resync. Unfortunately, it didn't remove the duplicates from my phone. In fact, I have triplicates of many appointments. I thought I could just remove the Gmail account from my phone and add it back. Nope, my phone says that it's required by some programs and can only be removed through a factory reset. I thought that maybe I had to have a Gmail account on the phone for it to work so I added another one. I then attempted to delete the original. Nope, still wouldn't let me. Since that wasn't the problem I tried to delete the newly added account. Nope, no can do. So am I understanding correctly that there is no way to remove an account once it's been added without doing a factory reset?

I am brand new to the Android world (replaced my lost iPhone4 with the sexy looking Captivate), and was wondering how to remove items from the default dock on the home screen. I use Gmail instead of the Mail app, so I would like to remove the Mail app and put Gmail there instead. I just rooted my phone using the walkthrough on this forum - what else do I need to install in order to gain this functionality?

When I bought my Captivate at the AT&T store, they tossed in a free case, which they put on the phone before I could even hold it . This transparent Plastic thing is evil, by which I mean I can't get it off. I'm afraid to take a screwdriver to it because I don't want to risk scratching the phone (that was why I got the case in the first place). Does anyone have experience with "incipio" plastic case? Do you know how to get it off safely? Can I take it in the store and have them do it?

Long story short, I ended up removing all user data (including apps) from my phone. I went to the "Downloaded" category in my Market account, and downloaded some of them, but the rest I don't want. How do I get rid of those (all labeled "installed") without having to download and uninstall them manually?
