Samsung Captivate :: Change The Default Email Client
Jul 29, 2010I would like the Gmail client to open when I tap the Email icon on the bar on the bottom the screen (the app the is preinstalled on the Captivate and located in the application list). Currently, the stock application is launched, and since this application is short to worthless, I want the Gmail client to open instead of it so that I don't need to add a short cut to it and at the same time end up with a static button that I will never use.

Oct 9, 2010Okay so here is another strange thing I noticed with the update.2 of the 3 phones that got the update now have a little home icon on the bottom of one of the touchwiz screens when you are in the edit mode. This page with the home icon can now be moved to whereever you want it in the positioning of the 1-7 screens you have and when you click on the "home" key at the very bottom it will go to that screen. Previously there was no home key and your home screen was either the middle or far left screen depending on the number of screens you had.

Sep 4, 2010I just synced with app brain and immediately afterwords received about 7 messages saying my credit card was billed. i was able to stop 3 of them. (by the way this was app that i didn't buy, have on my phone, or ever even heard of for that matter) now verizon is telling me that the only way to change the default account is to do a hard reset, which we all know, but then also said that unless i put the original account back on the phone, i wont be able to get the apps that I DID pay for, without buying them again....THAT is bullshit! the apps should be associated with the phone number, not a freaking email account. does anyone know if there is anyways around this?

I'd have to do a reset. That's a pretty dramatic step. Loose all personal data. Is there NO other way Google?

From looking on forums it appears it's because I mistakenly deleted the GTalk (Google Talk app). However, I couldn't receive any messages he sent me (which was unfortunate since I set up a really cool Beach Boys ringtone to go off for gchat notifications...). Nov 24, 2010I got AT&T Samsung Captivate i897 (2.1 Eclair). I unlocked and rooted my phone. I was using simple free phone earlier which doesn't require data plan but after two weeks I bought samsung captivate, AT&T added $25 data plan. I got my phone from AT&T store where my friend works so he took my data plan out of the plan for now but he said they will find out and add into your plan again. Also, He said that they recognize by your IMEI number. My question is: Is there anyway I can change my IMEI number? I was thinking to use my simple free Nokia phone's IMEI number and use it for Samsung Captivate so AT&T thinks that I am using Nokia phone.

Sep 25, 2010So my primary computer crashed and I had to reinstall all my programs and restore files from a backup. I had been syncing my Outlook calendar with my Gmail account using Google Calendar Sync which would then sync with my Captivate. When I reinstalled Outlook and synced with Gmail, it created duplicates of all my appointments. The only way to fix this was to delete all my appointments in Gmail and resync. Unfortunately, it didn't remove the duplicates from my phone. In fact, I have triplicates of many appointments. I thought I could just remove the Gmail account from my phone and add it back. Nope, my phone says that it's required by some programs and can only be removed through a factory reset. I thought that maybe I had to have a Gmail account on the phone for it to work so I added another one. I then attempted to delete the original. Nope, still wouldn't let me. Since that wasn't the problem I tried to delete the newly added account. Nope, no can do. So am I understanding correctly that there is no way to remove an account once it's been added without doing a factory reset?

Aug 16, 2010I've had my Captivate since the 19th of July and have been pretty happy with it but today my email accounts disappeared from my phone.I've been using the email app that came with the phone without issues but today my personal gmail and my work exchange accounts vanished. I noticed I hadn't received a new email notification in several hours so I went to check my email it prompted me to setup an email account. Anyone else have this happen? I only have 2 days to return my Captivate, it's been a good phone so far but I cant afford to lose my email accounts for no apparent reason again. I haven't installed any new apps or made any changes to the phone.Coming from the Blackberry world I took it for granted that email just worked flawlessly.

Google Talk failed to login. If this is a Google Apps account, confirm that chat is enabled for this account. I have logged into my domain Dashboard and Chat is on for my domain, Chat works in Gmail just fine. Everything else on my phone seems to be working, just not Google Talk. I just got the phone, I'm in Tucson with T-Mobile service and I've tried both over WIFI and over Edge/3G.

One thing I can't figure out is how to disable the default email viewer? I am getting 2 notifications every time a email comes in. I get one in my gmail launcher and another in the notification bar. The one in the notification bar takes me to the email viewer that is blue and black and is the one I want to turn off.

Jul 28, 2010I have a huge issue with email. I successfully added my Google Apps email account using POP. The client does indeed download the emails, though very slowly, but the main issue I have is that as soon as I manually check for new emails or the Captivate automatically does it (I set it to 15 minutes intervals), all the emails in the inbox on the phone disappears. After much investigating, it turns out that all emails that was already downloaded prior to a reload, were sent to Trash in Gmail. So when I log in online, every message that was originally downloaded to the phone, was now found in Trash. The only workaround I have found in order to keep the emails on the phone, is to delete them instantly. That way they remain in the Deleted Messages until I manually remove them.
So my question is: does the default email client work like it should at all or should I replace it with something. And if so, with what? It's a shame that a new phone such like this have issues with such a basic task.

Sep 7, 2010I'm afraid to root my phone and I understand that's the only way to get rid of the default music app on my captivate. If I can't get rid of it, is there a way to make it a lame duck and set another player as my default player.
Here's why:
I recently installed Playerpro which has all the features I need in a music player but when I press the headset buttons (which I need for my daily walks) it automatically starts my default music player, which I never use. Granted this may be in an issue with the app as Mixzing and others don't have this issue but is there anyway to set defaults on my droid.

Jul 21, 2010I have a Samsung Moment, that is running the stock Android 2.1 system released by Sprint. I signed up for a Gmail account when I got the phone. I also run my own domain, and have just migrated my domain's email and calendar to Google Apps. I would like to set my phone up to sync everything from my Google Apps account rather than the random Gmail account I signed up for when I got the phone. Is there any way to achieve this without doing a Factory Data Reset? I am willing to do the Factory Data Reset if I have to, but if I need to go through that process, are there any procedures I should follow to backup important data before hand? Also, will the reset take me back to 1.5?
