Samsung Captivate :: Connecting Android - Wireless Enterprise Network
Jul 22, 2010
My university, VT uses two wireless connection, one is manual login and other is auto login Enterprise Network. This is what my university describe about it
"An automatic wireless authentication method using the IEEE 802.1x standard is available. Once configured, there will be no need to manually authenticate with each access to the Virginia Tech wireless network."
This network requires a certificate to be installed on machine. As of now they have support for Windows PCs, MACs and iPhones. Is there any way I can access this wireless network through my Android based phone?

At my college we have this annoying web based login and my android phone doesn't like it. It connects easily but when I go to either browser or opera mobile it doesn't load the login page the browser still thinks it has no connection. Is there anyway to approach this in a better way or bypass the login or at least save it to automatically do it each time.I need a wifi connection! every building has it. annoying this is once you move to a different building the settings are changed(probably because of the routers) and I have to redo it. of course it never works

I need to connect to an institutional wireless network whose only security is achieved thanks to a login webpage. Once I'm connected to the wireless network, the first thing that I can do is to go to the login webpage. The problem is that most applications do not support this kind of login procedure, and therefore find no internet access (`connection problem' is written on my screen when I want to use the wireless network for surfing). Is there a workaround to this.

I recently bought a HTC Magic. At work, we have a secured wireless network. When connecting to this network, we are asked a username/password for the domain. Now, my question is; With my HTC Magic, how can I connect to the domain network? On my previous HTC (S710 or 720, with WinMob) , it was possible.

Here's my issue- At home, I am having trouble connecting to my secured wireless network (wpa, wap2, tkip) on my EVO. The EVO will show my network, but it won't seem to connect. I've tried restarting my Belkin wireless router, rescanning for networks on my EVO, and making sure I'm entering the correct pasword. Nothing seems to work. But, when I go to my girlfriend's house, I can connect to her unsecured wireless network. I'm thinking it may be the my router's security settings. Even though I have a strong 4G signal in my house, I still like to have the option to use my WiFi network from time to time.
Any thoughts?
Just to give it another try, I disabled my router security and even uninstalled WiFi finder...all of which did not work in establishing a connection. I'm starting to think it's my Belkin router. The only thing though, is that it played well with my Blackberry 8900.

is there a way to log on a WPA2 Enterprise Network? My school uses this, and I can't connect.I bought my Galaxy without a data plan because I thought I could be able to connect at school and at home, but it doesn't work with WPA2 Enterprise.I heard of an app, Wifi Helper I believe, but you need to have your phone rooted, something which I don't really want to do for various reasons.

I am trying to connect to my corporate network (which I setup and run). It required a CA cert and user cert which I have installed successfully onto my phone. It lets me select the certificates and tried to connect, when it connects however, my radius server is seeing a username of a whole bunch of numbers instead of the username it should be pulling from my certificate...
I downloaded WiFi Advanced Configuration Editor which lets me change this identity but it doesn't seem to work... It still tries with this number...

I just got my epic last week and had it rooted within hours. I have to say, I do love this phone. But I have noticed a slight inconvenience. I have installed the wireless tether app, and it works like a charm. No problem connecting other gadgets to it. But once I'm done tethering, and switch back to using wifi, the phone doesn't seem to want to connect to my home's wifi. I've tried reseting the phone, manually killing the tether app, and force closing the app under the applications tab in settings. But still no connection. Eventually, after 30mins or so, th phone will be able to connect once again. Has anyone else had this issue? It just seems somewhat of an unexpected problem, and a minor inconvenience. Any information on this or a possible fix would be greatly appreciated.

I have a problem with a brand new Galaxy i9000 and the wifi. I have managed to add one wifi network to it that I use at home. I have a second wifi network that I want to add, called cat, but when I try to add it from the Add wifi network place, it gives the error: Unable to save the network. i have tried a power on and off. Is there a maximum number of wireless networks one can save, or is there a problem with my actual 'phone? The phone is very laggy as well, and almost impossible to use when 3G is active. (Load averages are as high as 30 sometimes).

Is there anyway to allow data transfer over a wireless networ between the galaxy and a computer? I currently can't find my transfer cable and when I email myself songs and download them onto my phone, they are stored as a .mpx which play fine untill the phone is turned off or otherwise refreshes. After this, when trying to play the .mpx files an error message saying"No applications can perform this action" despite the songs playing fine only minutes before. However it would be damn useful just to connect my phone to the network, but while it connects, it doesn't appear in the devices connected to the network.

Does anyone have experience connecting to a AT&T Samsung Captivate Galaxy (Samsung SGH 1897). It runs Android 2.1. I have "USB debugging connected" and "USB connected" on the phone but I cannot get the desktop computer to recognize the sdcard via Windows Explorer or get the devices recognized with "adb devices".
I have successfully connected to my Motorola Droid. I was in the same situation with it yesterday but, thanks to this very helpful list, I am now in control of that device. (and my app runs on it!)

I installed the drivers listed in the topic at the top, I clicked mass storage as my option when i connected the phone, i mounted it by bringing down the drop down menu at the top of the phone (and hitting mount).... but when i connect it to my computer, I get nothing. I used to get an error message saying "There has been a malfunction with your USB device" in the lower right hand corner. I'm running Windows 7 32bit. I also tried on a Windows XP 32bit computer.

I have had kies on my computer for about two months. My phone connected fine and I could save messages and contacts. But now after this kies update I just sits there and says "Connecting the device... Please wait" This is rather annoying. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting, persists to do the same thing. I tried clicking some buttons. It says something about you can't do blah blahh when there is a firmware update. I didn't hit the firmware update button so it shouldn't be downloading and update.

For some reason, my WIFI is no longer auto-connecting to networks. I have to go into WIFI settings and manually connect to a network. This happens if, for example, I'm on WIFI at work and then come home, it does not auto-connect to my wireless network without manually connecting it.

I was wondering if there was an app that could wirelessly broadcast to any site without having to go to setup on a regular computer. Like I just use my phone and my phone only to broadcast to the site.

I rooted my phone with the one click app, side loaded the wireless tether app in and it works fine for tethering. The problem is when I choose to stop tethering the app says it's in an unknown state and to restart my phone.
Tethering still works fine but when I click stop tethering I can still see the beacon name on my client device. Also when I try and force stop it, I can't, it's still running. The only way to really kill it is to reboot the phone.
If I am not giving enough info I apologize and will give more if needed.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered but I searched and could not find a reply. I am new to Android OS and I noticed today that when I start my wireless connection on my EVO the 3G connection closes. When I disconnect wireless 3G starts. Is this normal or have I tripped a setting somewhere that causes this?
