HTC EVO 4G :: Connecting To Wireless Shuts Down 3g?

Jul 2, 2010

Sorry if this has been asked and answered but I searched and could not find a reply. I am new to Android OS and I noticed today that when I start my wireless connection on my EVO the 3G connection closes. When I disconnect wireless 3G starts. Is this normal or have I tripped a setting somewhere that causes this?

Samsung Epic 4G :: Connecting To Wifi After Wireless Tether

Oct 11, 2010

I just got my epic last week and had it rooted within hours. I have to say, I do love this phone. But I have noticed a slight inconvenience. I have installed the wireless tether app, and it works like a charm. No problem connecting other gadgets to it. But once I'm done tethering, and switch back to using wifi, the phone doesn't seem to want to connect to my home's wifi. I've tried reseting the phone, manually killing the tether app, and force closing the app under the applications tab in settings. But still no connection. Eventually, after 30mins or so, th phone will be able to connect once again. Has anyone else had this issue? It just seems somewhat of an unexpected problem, and a minor inconvenience. Any information on this or a possible fix would be greatly appreciated.

HTC EVO 4G : Not Connecting To Secured Wireless Network - Wpa Wap2 Tkip

Jun 6, 2010

Here's my issue- At home, I am having trouble connecting to my secured wireless network (wpa, wap2, tkip) on my EVO. The EVO will show my network, but it won't seem to connect. I've tried restarting my Belkin wireless router, rescanning for networks on my EVO, and making sure I'm entering the correct pasword. Nothing seems to work. But, when I go to my girlfriend's house, I can connect to her unsecured wireless network. I'm thinking it may be the my router's security settings. Even though I have a strong 4G signal in my house, I still like to have the option to use my WiFi network from time to time.

Any thoughts?

Just to give it another try, I disabled my router security and even uninstalled WiFi finder...all of which did not work in establishing a connection. I'm starting to think it's my Belkin router. The only thing though, is that it played well with my Blackberry 8900.

Sprint HTC Hero : Wireless Tether - How To Block Others From Connecting

Aug 18, 2010

Most of us probably use wireless tether when away from home, in a public place. Since wireless tether on the Hero doesn't support WEP, how do you prevent others from connecting to your hotspot? I was running wireless tether and somebody jumped onto the network and I didn't know how to boot him/her off.

Android :: Connecting To A Wireless Network Which Redirects To A Login Page

Jul 13, 2010

I need to connect to an institutional wireless network whose only security is achieved thanks to a login webpage. Once I'm connected to the wireless network, the first thing that I can do is to go to the login webpage. The problem is that most applications do not support this kind of login procedure, and therefore find no internet access (`connection problem' is written on my screen when I want to use the wireless network for surfing). Is there a workaround to this.

Samsung Captivate :: Connecting Android - Wireless Enterprise Network

"An automatic wireless authentication method using the IEEE 802.1x standard is available. Once configured, there will be no need to manually authenticate with each access to the Virginia Tech wireless network."

This network requires a certificate to be installed on machine. As of now they have support for Windows PCs, MACs and iPhones. Is there any way I can access this wireless network through my Android based phone?

HTC Eris :: Wireless Tether - Ad Hoc Connections For Wireless Mouse

May 27, 2010

The main reason i wanted a rooted phone was so i could connect to my laptops ad hoc network and use a program for wireless keyboard and mouse. i cant really afford the real thing at the moment and with my laptop hooked up to my flat screen its kind of necessary to have..

So ive rooted my phone and tried a few roms. currently i have this one: [ROM] [05/18/2010] Tainted Vanilla V1.4 OVERCLOCKED - xda-developers

I always run into the same problem though. wired or wireless, i cant get it to connect right. wired never works in any way but i dont really care about that. wireless however shows some signs of working. it shows some data has been sent, not received though. and my computer will detect and connect to it, but seems to lose the signal after a few moments. when i bring up a browser it doesnt even look like something might load. it just says im offline. could someone help me with this?

The other part of this problem is i really just want to connect to my computers ad hoc network and use a wireless keyboard and mouse program. none of them seem that great unfortunately.. recommendations are appreciated. but my biggest issue is that i cant seem to connect to an ad hoc network. i believe my phone detected it only once while i was on the "white widow" rom, but could never quite connect..

HTC EVO 4G :: Rooted - Phone Shuts Down Whenever Use GPS

Sep 5, 2010

I recently rooted a 2.2 stock phone, using the XDA method (clockwork). Everything seems to work fine, except for two things: BIG THING: Whenever I try to use the GPS function on my phone the phone just shuts off and restarts. (this is when I use the GPS satellites function. NOT when I use the "use wireless networks" setting under the Location sub-section of settings) When I turn on GPS and try to get "my location" in google maps. It restarts. When I use Yelp it turns off.

SMALL thing: The wifi tether is decent but it often stops working (I used the google one). I.e. The computer that's connected to the wireless network either gets disconnected, or it thinks it's disconnected but the internet just doesn't work. At this point, I just simply shut the tether on and off. But it's slightly inconvenient. Is this an issue other people are having?

HTC EVO 4G :: 4g Won't Scan - Immediately Shuts Off

Sep 28, 2010

I turn the 4g on and it immediately shuts off when it says scanning. It only rarely actually works and this has only been happening the past month or so. I just rooted it with unrevoked3 last week though. the problem has been before that. I do now have wireless tether installed but I don't have it active when I try to update. I've tried it with Wireless tether On and Off, with Mobile Connection On and Off, with Sprint Hotspot On and Off, nothing makes a difference. I've rebooted numerous times. The past few days I've been using Advanced Task Killer to kill apps every 30 minutes in aggressive which gives me crazy good battery life even with syncing and fairly bright light and normal usage. Like three days with only two spots of 30 minute charging. It also charges much faster though.

I don't know why it works sometimes. I can't find anything linking the working moments. I'm in a fairly good 4G area when it works, I get around 1.3 megabytes coming down at the peak. Is there anything I can do? Is anyone else experiencing this? I would think that if it actually scanned, it would take longer than an eighth of a second to do so.

HTC EVO 4G :: Screen Shuts Off After Morning Alarm

Jun 15, 2010

I use my phone as my alarm clock. Every night I put it on the charger and leave the night desk clock on. It stays on and doesnt shut off. In the morning the alarm goes off but Tue screen is blank. Pushing any button on the device puts the alarm in snooze mode. The only way I can make the alarm stop is to have the screen on and waiting for the alarm to sound so I can press the dismiss button. I'm pretty sure this started after I installed Brightness Profiles from the marketplace. I have since uninstalled that program but the problem persists. I have "Never sleep while charging" checked in the options but it makes no difference. There was a new development this morning. I was using the web browser this morning while plugged into the charger and the screen just shut off. I turned it back on with the power button and had to slide to unlock. The screen never shuts off in the car while charging. I have the timeout set to "Never".

I thought it might be the iheart radio app so I tried it with the stock music player and the same thing. Nav. voice speaks, music pauses, nav. voice ends, music doesn't resume. What's up with that? General :: Screen Shuts Off Only In Applications?

Feb 21, 2013

I have a sprint Samsung Galaxy S3, rooted...Int he past week or 2, whenever I am in an application (Chrome, Yahoo, GTalk, etc) The screen will sometimes randomly shut off. It just goes black, i can still touch and use whatever app I was in (I can hear the sounds of clicks, etc) and the buttons stay lit on the bottom. When I press the lock button it makes the lock noise. When I then unlock it, i get to the lock screen with no problems. If I unlock into whatever app I am running, the screen will almost immediately shut off again, or sometimes after a few seconds, or sometimes it waits until i touch the screen. BUT, if I unlock into a system app (messages, phone, homescreen, etc) the problem doesnt happen. I have tried adjusting all the display settings for screen timeout, rebooting, battery out, killing services, etc and nothing seems to work.

General :: HTC Desire HD Shuts Off When It Boots

Jul 14, 2013

From last one day, I am suffering from this problem, my HTC Desire HD rooted and installed with ViperDHD keeps restarting as it soon as it boots. The phone bootscreen shows, finishes, even the android home screen appears but just for one second and then goes blank and restarts. This all started happening, when I had connected my phone with my computer and a restart occurred, instantaneously.

I have tried everything, Factory reset, full wipe, keeping battery out for 10 minutes, removing SIM and SD card, formatting SD card, even re-installling 2 different ROMs with Full wipe but the problem still persists.

While I do realize it might be a hardware issue but it is impossible go give it up to any service center because it is an imported piece without any warranty. I won't give up that easily. Here are some of the stuff I tried, and some observations I made Device shuts off at bootscreen if there is no SD card, (I doubt that SD card is an essential thing).

I can only boot into recovery where adb logcat or adb bugreport don't work. I tried adb shell find -f | log. None of the log files seemed useful. Is there something I can find here?

What kind of hardware issue might it be? Is it possible to debug it? and what causes shut down? and since I am have some knowledge of computers at lower level, C and linux, is it possible to hack into the kernel and perhaps correct what might be wrong?
