Nexus :: Need Power Adapter / That Doesn't Do Any Voltage Changes
Feb 11, 2010
I live in the UK and have ordered my Nexus One from the US, without a UK adapter. My question is what voltage the standard AC adapter uses, as the UK runs 240V typically. I can get hold of a cheap US-UK power adapter that doesn't do any voltage changes, so I was wondering whether that would be sufficient. Does anyone have any experience with this?

As usual, these are update.zip format. Rename to update.zip, place on root of sdcard, and install (don't forget to 'allow').
My advice to you, in selecting a kernel, is to #1 try the lowV varieties first. Then select the slowest kernel that exceeds what you expect to run on a day to day basis. So if you plan on running 800-1000, run the 1.0lv kernel.
If for some reason you get stuck on the 'M' while booting, first try switching to the mediumV kernel. If that does not work, back the speed down, say from 1.25 to 1.2, or 1.2, to 1.1, etc.
5-slot Low Voltage
1.0Ghz (125/250/550/800/1000)
1.1Ghz (125/250/550/800/1100)
1.2Ghz (125/250/550/800/1200)
1.25Ghz (125/250/550/800/1250)
5-slot Medium Voltage
1.0Ghz (125/250/550/800/1000)
1.1Ghz (125/250/550/800/1100)
1.2Ghz (125/250/550/800/1200)
1.25Ghz (125/250/550/800/1250)
7-slot Low Voltage
1.0Ghz (125/250/550/700/800/900/1000)
1.1Ghz (125/250/550/800/900/1000/1100)
1.2Ghz (125/250/550/800/1000/1100/1200)

I am hooking up my Samsung s4 to my tv to mirror the image on my phone. I read that a lot of people are having problems finding adapters that can charge the phone while using the hdmi adapter. I was wondering if I took the cable going from the adapter to the phone and if I spliced into it and added another source of power that was 5 volts would that make up for the lack of power coming out of the hdmi adapter or would that damage my phone. I attached a picture for reference.

I have my G1 connected to a FM transmitter in my car with my bluetooth headset connected. Music has no problem going out the G1. A call comes in and I connect it. After I disconnect the call, the sound does not go out the adapter on the G1, but out the phone's speaker. Is there any setting to make sure the sound goes out the bottom adapter and not the phone's speaker?

Whenever I reboot my phone and try to turn it back on it sometimes takes several tries with the power button. Press-and-release, press-and-hold for 2 seconds, press-and-hold for 5 seconds, etc. don't work the first few times and then it randomly fires up. Anyone else experiencing this?

I recently bought a rooted N1 off of ebay. I plugged my SIM in and everything worked fine all day yesterday. I went to sleep on my bed, with the N1 in my pocket, and when I woke up the phone was indicating that there was no SIM card in the phone. I rebooted the phone, and factory reset it, yet it still indicated that there was no SIM inside the phone. I put my SIM card in my wife's iPhone and the phone worked fine.
1) Could sleeping with it in my pocket have done this?
2) Did I just buy a dud off of Ebay? And if so, how is this possible because it worked all day yesterday?

If I activate wifi via the power widget, wifi does turn on, but doesn't connect to my router. If I go to Wireless & Networks in the settings and click Wi-Fi settings, I see it shows my router there and says "not in range, remembered" initially, but as soon as that page comes up, it connects. Why is it only connecting after I go to the settings?

Last night when I plugged in my power cord, it did not begin to charge, so I unplugged it and looked and the power cord was smoking and sparking. Do you know what would cause this? I am looking for a micro USB cable to see if the phone socket is still working. If the phone socket is broken, I guess HTC support is the first place to go?

Current iPhone owner thinking about making the switch to the Verizon Nexus One. I have a concern about the usability of the power (wake) button on the top left of the Nexus One that I haven't heard anyone else mention so perhaps it isn't as big of an issue as I anticipate. Basically my concern is that the hand position and motion required to wake the device using that button is not the same position you want your hand to be in to use the phone. For example, with the iPhone I wake my device with the bottom "home" button that is on the face of the device and then I can very quickly just move my thumb up to swipe-to-unlock without having to reposition the phone. It seems like this would not be possible with the Nexus One given that there isn't a wake button on the face of the phone near the bottom.I'd really love to hear from current Nexus One owners. Is this not the usability issue that I am making it out to be? Do you just adjust and find a new way of quickly waking and then swiping to unlock the phone that is just as comfortable and efficient as with the iPhone? If so, what do you do?

I don't know what I have done, but the power button on the top, which I used to be able to press to turn off the screen, no longer works. I can use it to turn on the screen. And I can hold it on to power down, airplane mode, etc. But pressing it once does nothing when the screen is lit up. I have tried wiping all data from the boot menu. This restores the functionality, but when I restore all my data and apps (MyBackupPro) the problem returns.

The switch has been a bit finicky for a few months. Today it stopped working all together. I couldn't turn the phone on except my plugging in power. Then I couldn't shut it off. I pulled the battery to try and reboot but now I can't turn it on. I opened the back but there is a star shaped screw and another with a void sticker on it. I was thinking of taking a look at the button leads to see if there is something lodged in there of perhaps if they were just dirty, I could clean them to get a better connection....but I will be crossing a line if I do.
The big question is....who do I turn to regarding a repair? Since I bought it from google, I don't think T-mobile will help. Once I finally reach the right person at google, they will most likely say ship it to us and we will look at it when we get around to it.

I purchased a replacement digitizer for my broken Nexus 7 (first generation). Now, the *first* step of the repair process is to power-off the Nexus 7...
BUT It's BROKEN! I cannot press on 'power off' option when holding the power button for 10 seconds - that resets the unit.
How am I supposed to power it down?

the worst thing about the nexus one is that you power on the phone by simply pressing the power button, not by *holding* it. how can I just *check* if the phone is turned off? when i go to a movie, i just want to double-check it's off, so i short-press power button but then if it's already off then i would instead be turning it on and have to wait for the long boot-up process. i just can't "make sure it's off".

Do you know the menu which appears when you press the lock button(i think its called power menu), is there a way of changing what icons appear there?
Can the tiles also in quick settings panel be changed?
Finally, if you press the middle button you see the google logo to laung google search, can that be changed to show other apps?

So i broke the screen on my Galaxy Nexus.
I also broke the power button (flex ribbon) at the same time.
I am told that the technicians will wipe the hard drive when they go to fix the screen.
I am wondering if there is a way i can backup the pictures from my phone to my PC without the power on the phone turning on.
Also, is this wipe is even necessary, i have another tech who seems somewhat shady and small scale but claims he can fix it without the wipe.

I have a Nexus S running 4.0.4. I did the update manually when it was released.
The bootloader is unlocked from previous ROM experiments but this ICS is stock/unrooted.
A few weeks later, the power button now doesn't work. This is a VERY common issue, but no one knows for sure if it is Hardware or Software. I was going to lock my bootloader and send it in to get a fix or replacement device from my carrier. Alternatively, I was going to attempt to flash a ROM onto it and see if the button comes back.
The bizarre thing is that when I go into fastboot, the device freezes and I cannot use any of the buttons. Furthermore, below the device information, nothing else shows up. The device shows up to ADB when booted, but Device Manager doesn't even find an unknown device when in Fastboot.

I can't get adb to see my Nexus on XP-64.That is, when I run "adb devices" it lists only the open emulators and not the Nexus. Likewise, Eclipse does not show the Nexus as an available deployment target.Yes, I have the latest USB driver for Nexus. The driver appears to have installed correctly. The device manager shows "Android phone Composite Android Interface", as expected. And yes, USB debugging is turned on on the Nexus. My Windows 7 Netbook does not have this problem but I need to use the XP-64 system for development.

Don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but my alarm doesn't seem to go off when I have it set to a specific schedule, like monday, wednesday, friday. It went off for monday and ever since then, I just woke up late for my classes because it doesn't go off. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if there is a fix for it? I mean the right alarm time even shows up when I hit the lock screen but it doesn't actually go off

I'm trying out both the Galaxy S3 and the LG Nexus 4 on AT&T.
When I was using the S3, I just inserted my SIM card and I was good to go. I like to use the Speedtest app when I'm out and about to see what speeds I'm getting, and the app worked just fine on the S3.
Last week, I got the LG Nexus 4 and inserted the SIM card and was also up and running. However, the Speedtest app does not work out in the field. It works just fine on my WiFi network but, when I try it outside, it just gives a large ping number and then does nothing. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Speedtest app, but still nothing.
