Can you disable the phone? and just keep data on?I want to use the navigator and search web if i need to but I dont want the phone to ring at all.Is this possible? Or is their something on the Market?

As Nexus One is the only model which has already "partly" updated to Froyo,Before Froyo, if I wanna enable/disable mobile data usage, I used a passive way, changing the APN server setting, to fool the system so it couldn't connect.In Froyo, there is a new option under Setings -> Wireless & Network Settings -> Mobile Networks called Data enabled/disabled, which is a much direct approach than changing the APN.But up to today, I've yet to see a widget which targets at this option. Currently I hv made a 3G shortcut to that setting page on to my home screen. Really hope there will be a toggle widget instead!So how do u guys enable/disable data usage at the moment without a handy widget on Froyo?

It's via work, and on a business tariff that boasts unlimited data.After a couple of huge bills, it turns out that apparently 3g data is unlimited, but 2g data is charged at the usual eye-watering rates. Phone Bloke is checking with O2 whether they are serious.In the meatime, I'd like to disable 2g data connections.I can't find a way to do that.

I've tried many of the most popular software that do this, but, with dual sim phone, they are able to shut down data connection but not to startup.
I'm trying to limit my mobile data usage with out jumping through hoops.
I'm looking for a widget, that with one click of a button, it can restrict background data, disable auto-sync and enable mobile data, and when pressed again, enable WiFi, disable background restriction and enable auto-sync.
This function, no matter how trivial, would save time and effort.
Is there anything like this out there? Would something like this require root?

Any way to disable the fullscreen "USB Mass Storage" popup when connecting to USB on FROYO? Can't seem to locate any settings to turn this off and it's kinda overkill/unneeded everytime i plug in the phone.
View 2 Replies View Relatedso i have an n1 for at&t and i just got the ota update for froyo last night. today i'm trying out the default web browser to see what kinds of flash videos i can see. i already downloaded the flash player from the market. plus i went into the setting for the browser with regards to "about:debug" then changed the UAString to desktop. but for some reason when i go to a website like nbc.com to try and go watch a full episode of the office, it only loads the mobile version of the site. also when i check out the facebook page it always automatically loads the "touch" version of the site. how can i get it to default to the desktop regular full site version? can anyone tell me a way around this or a setting change other than try a different browser?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to permanently disable anti-aliasing? I find anti-aliasing a little irritating. It simply smooths out images which essentially strips out details. I've never liked it.
I find myself slowly scrolling back and forth in the browser to disable the anti-aliasing so that the images I view are more defined.
It seems most poeple complained that the anti-aliasing slowed down performance but that isn't my issues. I simply don't like how it degrades an image.
I'm using nexus 7 2013 version and use a cover from nikkin. This my cover is able to lock screen when I close the cover. But I don't like this feature and want to disable that. How can I do?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got my phone and the battery might still be stabilizing, and of course I'm fiddling with it a lot and I've installed heaps of apps, but I can't quite work out something. I unplugged my phone at midnight and this morning found my phone at 70% charge. I also got a message from my provider that I'd used up all my data. I checked and found that my phone had used up (sent+received) 30MB overnight. Google Maps was the biggest culprit - it received 700K but it sent almost 8MB. This is while the phone was sitting on my bedside table! And of course, as I'm driving to work (not using the phone at all), Google Maps was transmitting my location information back to it's servers so that the traffic flow is updated on their systems.
That's cool, but there doesn't appear to be any way to disable or turn off this in GM's configuration, or even exit the app. It seems that having My Location services enabled gives Google Maps (and I'm sure other apps like weather, gmail, Contacts, etc.) free reign to send and transmit data all the time. I don't want to have to disable My Location services completely; I want finer control over things on a per-app basis. Having Google Maps transmit 8MB overnight might not seem like a lot, but when the phone is idle, it disables wireless (to save battery) and thus all data is going through 2G/3G and I'm incurring data charges.
Wouldn't it be cool if I could tell my phone to switch wifi on and switch 3g reception off when it senses that I am at work or home based on my gps coordinates and then reverse that when I'm on the road i.e. not at those coordinates I set. Is there an app that does this?

Reason: I cracked my screen from the bottom left of the screen to just shy of the top right corner. The lower section, below the crack, is not responsive to touch... and the dots I need (I use the pattern pass) are on this side because I can't flip the tablet.
How This Happened: I turned on rotation lock with the tablet upside down to keep it there... But then my Nexus 7 decided to restart randomly and keep rotation-lock on but coming back in the default orientation, aka the wrong way that I need it to be.
I'm loving my Nexus 5, my first Android phone. I use Pattern Lock. I want to disable Pattern Lock when I'm at my home wifi. I did some research and it looks like apps can only turn off Pattern Lock when the phone is rooted. Is this true? I don't want to root my phone and I'd rather not have to enter Pattern Lock a hundred times a day.

However, the settings are just very restricted (even on the paid versions).As of right now I am trying to develop a much more customizable battery saving application. The main thing I am trying to do first be able to enable/disable the mobile data connection at will.The problem is I can't find any code snippets or articles on how to do this. The only thing I have found is the following. I don't know how accurate this is, but this was all I could piece together browsing developer.android.com.Looking at the phone info when JuiceDefender is running, I found that the GSRP network is getting turned on and off. This leaves me to believe it is possible to do it through code even though every page I find asking about this same issue says it cannot be done. The kicker is they all say to do it like APNDroid. Please someone give me some insight.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a new droid user and have tried desperately to disable all data connections.I'm without a data plan so I feel very unsafe just going on the net or using the apps I downloaded, afraid that it might accidentally use data connections.I've tried disabling the 2G network, data roaming, background data (what is it anyway) and even going to the key pad, typing *#*#4636#*#* to disable the data connection and data on boot up. I'm left with disabling the APN but don't know how to. And the thing that worries me is that I am unable to go to the Android Market because I will need to enable the background data which I'm afraid that will cause $. I want to make sure that SIM2 never, ever connects to the Internet, though I do want to use it for calls and SMSs.
Under Settings, I can't find any setting for enabling/disabling data completely per-sim. (There is an option for enabling/disabling data *roaming* per sim). There _is_ a setting under Data Usage for putting a limit for data consumption: there you can set a warning threshold and a limit. However, while the warning can be set to 0MB, the lowest value you can set for the limit is 1MB (I know, so stupid...).
Up to now, I haven't detected any data usage on sim2, but my fear is that at any moment when the data network for sim1 may become temporarily unavailable for any reason, sim2 may be used for data. Even if I have set the 1MB limit, sim2's operator will charge me a fixed amount per week if I use non-zero data.
So how do I disable data completely for sim2 while keeping data enabled for sim1 and keeping sim2 enabled for voice and sms?

I am not new to android: i have had the G1 which i did not root, the T-Mobile pulse, which i rooted and the HTC Legend and now the Nexus one.

With the legend i am am awhere of the Sence UI ? i liked how facebook contacts synced to my phone and when i rang i saw there display pictures, does the Nexus one do this?
SMS, is there a similar app to the legend, where you see threaded messages with a picture of there facebook dp?
I can't hear the phone when it rings, its so quiet, the volume is on max, is there anyway to increase this?
