View 4 RepliesI am writing an widget application for android.
I have a requirement where i need to disable the widget on some intent, i.e., I have the remove the widget from the android home screen and remove from menu options so that the user cannot add the widget further.
I have to enable the widget on some intent, so that, the framework automatically adds the widget to the home screen, by calculating the empty position available on the home screen, and the many option re-appears in order to add the widget further.
Please let me know if this can be possible..
I'm trying to limit my mobile data usage with out jumping through hoops.
I'm looking for a widget, that with one click of a button, it can restrict background data, disable auto-sync and enable mobile data, and when pressed again, enable WiFi, disable background restriction and enable auto-sync.
This function, no matter how trivial, would save time and effort.
Is there anything like this out there? Would something like this require root?
Galaxy Nexus
I want to know if any of you know how much data the weather widget along with other widgets will use. Since i am only going to get the 200mb data plan i will be strictly watching my data usage.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI just recently purchased a Galaxy Note 2 and have to say I absolutely love it! As I'm in the process of customizing it one thing I noticed is that there are no toggle widgets for independently turning on or off 3G or 4G as needed. I came from an HTC EVO 4G that had those widgets built into the Sense interface which worked great so that when I was traveling I could use 3G only if I was in that area or switch off 3G and goto 4G (WiMax), or switch off both when I was at home with an Airave.
I've looked throughout the Note 2 running android 4.1.1 and am unable to find any such widgets. I did download Power Widgets and Widgetoid but both seem inadequate by not effectively turning the radio on or off. Rather they take me to the screen to turn off the radio inside the android settings.
any good widgets that will turn the radios on/off with the simple press of the icon?
I cannot for the life of me find any settings for this. I swear I've read about people setting theres to only do it every couple of hours or so to help with battery life but I can't find anything for this. The only thing I've managed to find is an option to set it to only sync over WiFi. Forgive me if this has already been asked but I couldn't find any answers to this dilemma.Oh and also, what exactly is considered "Background Data"? There's an option for enabling/disabling it and I wondered what the term encompasses.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just got an EVO and it chews through the battery fairly quick. I downloaded JuiceDefender to manage my mobile data connection. That seems have worked out fairly well. However, the settings are just very restricted (even on the paid versions). As of right now I am trying to develop a much more customizable battery saving application. The main thing I am trying to do first be able to enable/disable the mobile data connection at will. The problem is I can't find any code snippets or articles on how to do this. The only thing I have found is the following. I don't know how accurate this is, but this was all I could piece together browsing developer.android.com.Looking at the phone info when JuiceDefender is running, I found that the GSRP network is getting turned on and off. This leaves me to believe it is possible to do it through code even though every page I find asking about this same issue says it cannot be done. The kicker is they all say to do it like APNDroid. Please someone give me some insight.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way for end users to disable 2G data services (e.g. make the phone just a phone)?Or disable the GSM function as well (say, for a device used on a hiking trip as a GPS tracker, where there is no coverage)?
Is there enough control in the SDK to pursue writing an app with a control screen like: [x] Enable Voice (GSM) Enable 2G Data / Enable 3G Data (uses more battery than 2G) [ ] Enable Data When Roaming (may result in extra charges) [x] Enable WiFi [x] Enable WiFi even if device is sleeping [x] Enable Bluetooth [x] Enable GPS [ ] Airplane mode (disable all radios)
I would like to not have to buy a data plan for my phone, so is there any way to disable all data connections besides when connected to Wifi? any help is appreciated.

I am currently an at&t customer and wish to use the cliq but i do not want to have to pay for a data plan. I was wondering if there was a way disable network data and only rely on wifi or if the carrier will disable data usage for my number. thanks a bunch
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a new droid user and have tried desperately to disable all data connections.I'm without a data plan so I feel very unsafe just going on the net or using the apps I downloaded, afraid that it might accidentally use data connections.I've tried disabling the 2G network, data roaming, background data (what is it anyway) and even going to the key pad, typing *#*#4636#*#* to disable the data connection and data on boot up. I'm left with disabling the APN but don't know how to. And the thing that worries me is that I am unable to go to the Android Market because I will need to enable the background data which I'm afraid that will cause $. And also, I don't know if doing all that will be effective.

But I can't find anything like that for the data network... no method for this on TelephonyManager or ConnectivityManager.Isn't it possible to programmatically enable / disable mobile data?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want, and I have for a while been willing to, disable and enable DATA (2g, 3g, whatever) with a long press of the search button. And I mean only long-pressing it, NOT opening an app with it and disable it from the app (doesn't make any sense, otherwise one would press the HOME button and disable it from a widget there).

It's via work, and on a business tariff that boasts unlimited data. After a couple of huge bills, it turns out that apparently 3g data is unlimited, but 2g data is charged at the usual eye-watering rates. View 11 Replies View RelatedAs Nexus One is the only model which has already "partly" updated to Froyo,Before Froyo, if I wanna enable/disable mobile data usage, I used a passive way, changing the APN server setting, to fool the system so it couldn't connect. In Froyo, there is a new option under Setings -> Wireless & Network Settings -> Mobile Networks called Data enabled/disabled, which is a much direct approach than changing the APN.But up to today, I've yet to see a widget which targets at this option. Currently I hv made a 3G shortcut to that setting page on to my home screen. Really hope there will be a toggle widget instead! So how do u guys enable/disable data usage at the moment without a handy widget on Froyo?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI have a Be.SOCIAL SC020 with Android 4.1.2, which has two SIM slots.
I want to make sure that SIM2 never, ever connects to the Internet, though I do want to use it for calls and SMSs.
Under Settings, I can't find any setting for enabling/disabling data completely per-sim. (There is an option for enabling/disabling data *roaming* per sim). There _is_ a setting under Data Usage for putting a limit for data consumption: there you can set a warning threshold and a limit. However, while the warning can be set to 0MB, the lowest value you can set for the limit is 1MB (I know, so stupid...).
Up to now, I haven't detected any data usage on sim2, but my fear is that at any moment when the data network for sim1 may become temporarily unavailable for any reason, sim2 may be used for data. Even if I have set the 1MB limit, sim2's operator will charge me a fixed amount per week if I use non-zero data.
So how do I disable data completely for sim2 while keeping data enabled for sim1 and keeping sim2 enabled for voice and sms?
I have a galaxy s2 running 4.1.2. Is there a way to disable or reset the data usage tracking?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Motorola Milestone running Android 2.1.Is there a widget which turns "background data" ("Settings -> account & sync -> background data") on/off? I know there are several widgets which turn auto sync on off (e.g. the power control widget) and disable data connections altogether (apndroid, quick settings, etc), but that's not what I need. I searched the market, google and this forum but couldn't find anything. The only workaround I found was to create a shortcut to "account & sync" using "any cut". Not a widget, but close enough. Is there a widget, or a better way to do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe service providers in my country are charging for the MBs I downloaded in my GPRS/EDGE connection. So, whenever I want to disable the GPRS, I just change my default APN to something wrong and then correct it when I want to enable it again. I couldn't find another way to enable/disable. I think,Android team assumed that only 3G users with a good data plan only would use this phone. Anyway, I just want to develop an application which can do that automatically for me. However; I couldn't find how to change the APN settings in the docs. but I couldn't find how to use it. Could you please help me? Any alternative ways and/or suggestions are welcome.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to develop an application that disable the Background Data (new feature in Android 1.5) and Auto Sync and then enable GPRS/EDGE connection and vice versa.
I figured out how to enable/disable GPRS/EDGE by changing the APN settings. (weird solution. However; Android developers couldn't think a user may want to disable GPRS/EDGE) But, I couldn't find a way to enable/disable Auto Sync and Background data.
I investigated the Android code and as I understood, the Sync operation is an intend. So, I wanted to reach with putExtra to the intend and trigger the enabling/disabling. But; I couldn't find the correct keyword.
is there any app that can disable the background apps, like fb, sync, widgets, that would use internet once i enable the data connection on my android? i don't have an unlimited data package, which is why im concerned about the data charges.
is there any such app that would disable background apps while allowing me to use the app i need to use via data connection?
At the first loading of flashed rom checkbox "Data Allowed" in the Mobile Network Settings ENABLED by default.
I do not use unlimited Internet therefore.
I need some flashable patch update.zip which I can flash after the rom for switching this option to DISABLE.
It is Really? Where android save this setting?
I'm looking for an app (free or paid) that will disable mobile data while my screen is turned off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedPrincipally to save battery charge, i need to find an application or a method that automatically shut down data connection when i lock the screen and resume it when i unlock the screen.
I've tried many of the most popular software that do this, but, with dual sim phone, they are able to shut down data connection but not to startup.
Radio Shack had this phone on sale for $14 cash this weekend, I picked up a couple of them to setup to use for WiFi text/music/YouTube phones for my kids.
I have rooted them and now just want to get rid of the Virgin Mobile automatic profile update that attempts to happen when I power on the phone. If possible, I would like to permanently disable the cellular data/voice modem as well leaving WiFi enabled. What app I should disable/ remove through titanium backup to do this?
I have absolutely no intention of ever activating these phones for traditional cell service. They will strictly be used as WiFi android devices. Basically a cheapo alternative to an iPod.
I have set the phone for airplane mode and then enabled WiFi to prevent them from making calls, this is a reasonable solution but they could turn on the cell radio and start trying to activate, although they wouldn't get far as they don't have a way to provide payment anyway.
Problem is their mother isn't the brightest and when they are away at mom's, I would like to be able to text them and not be on the phone with her troubleshooting them constantly.
Change log states "Toggle widgets can be skinned".where is the option? I'm sure it's obvious, but I sure can't find it.
