I just followed the manual instructions to force update to 2.2 and it went smoothly; now I cannot open Handcent SMS or the droid Messaging app they both freeze and force close.

Hello everyone. I recently got the MyTouch 3G so I'm a new Android user and I'm very happy to be one. Anywho, I was wondering about the Handcent application. My friend suggested it to me and I like its setup over the default Messaging app, so I wanted to delete it. But would deleting the default Messaging app also delete all the texts in general? Or would they carry over to the Handcent app and stay there even after deleting the Messaging app. I don't want to lose some of the texts that I already had.

However the 2.2 messaging app. I can't stand it and I loved the 2.1 messaging app (enough to just go back to 2.1 if I can't get it) so I was wondering if anyone could give me the .apk file so I could manually install it on my droid. Please and thanks . I'd do this myself, but I don't know how.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI don't know if I'm the only one who doesn't like the new stock Froyo messaging app (I doubt I am) but is there any way to switch out the new one with the old one. Personally I loved the old stock messaging app and I would LOVE to have it back. I know there's the whole issue of it not being compatible but if anyone has gotten it to work I would love to know. I don't want to have to go back to Handcent.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe reason why I am asking this is because I want to set myself up for the vanilla rom. From what I have read, the blur messaging us taken out. (Obviously) but despite its ugliness, I just love the fact that I can send video and if its too big, it redirects me to edit length. I am currently running handcent and handcent does not redirect me to video edit lite. So my question is what messaging ap will allow me to send videos the same way the stock app does? Another thing is that I can't even view videos sent to me from handcent, and almost every mms is sent as a slideshow (on both messaging apps). Is there any way around that?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed the updated GalaX theme and it brought in a new messaging app that is similar to the cyanogen sms app. However it corrects the time stamp but I get 2 messages for every received sms one at the correct time and one and the 4 or 5 hour off time. Can I remove the motorola sms application or rename it? Anyone know what that is?

In the 2.1 app it simply showed my name and the other persons name; no pic of us next to every text. Is there anyway to disable showing the pics in the 2.2 app? Really don't see the need to have a pic next to each text.

Problem:
Steps to Create force close everytime in Messaging:
1. Compose new message
2. Type in "D"
3. Type in "A"
4. *Messaging (process com.android.mms) has stopped (no wait button to choose)
Once A is typed it always force closes (40 times in a row).
I have a rooted DroidX and made the mistake of removing a few system apps, including Messaging.apk. Now I open the text message application and it closes right away. I tried copying package dumps (from another thread somewhere) to /system/apps/ and installing them, but I get a "Application not Installed" message. How can I get the phone to reinstall these applications?

Also noticed on some but not all of the text messages I get, the CB# appears on each one. Now I saw the setting in messaging that you can disable that, but I think that is for my text messaging going out to the other person correct? Is there any way to stop this from appearing in each text I receive? The weird thing is, it does not happen for all users in my contact list, just a few.

But reliability is Job 1, so I kept chompSMS for a few weeks.Then I heard that Handcent received a major update a few days ago, so I replaced chompSMS with Handcent. So far so good. I got all the features back, and I haven't had one single issue in days of texting. So if you're like me and you left Handcent for chompSMS, you may want to give the new version a spin.

I feel like I am completely missing something because I don't see an option to turn the stock messaging system off or to make Handcent my primary messaging service. As a result, every time I get a text I get two notifications and the message pops up in both applications.

By this I mean that when I send a message or receive a message, there is a delay before the message being sent or received pops up on my screen. I don't know why that is. Sometimes it is delayed for 15 seconds before showing on the screen. I have not done anything to cause this change. Otherwise the handcent has been working perfectly.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI used Handcent for a while and I really liked it, however you can't send MMS using it for whatever reason which is a big deal breaker for me.I uninstalled it and went back to the original messaging application, but now it just closes randomly.Like I'll open it and it will close instantly. Then I open it again and it works fine.Other times it will open fine, but then I'll try to open up an conversation and it closes automatically, then when I open it again everything works fine.It is very annoying. It just closes out to the home screen. I've deleted all my existing messages and I've tried resetting my phone, nothing seems to help.

I want Handcent notifications as they will also go away once you tap them to read the message, but the one from Messaging is remaining even after I click it to see the message.

Removing / barring the pre-update issues with the native messaging app on the phone, which one of these do you prefer? I am currently using the native app, seems fine to me, I like that I can link contacts to FB etc. Not necessarily looking for something that plagiarize's the iPhone messenger (cartoon bubbles), but I am always open to something new if it is better than the app preloaded on the phone. If you don't use the native app, is there a widget for Handcent or Chomp (like the native) to make viewing and responding easy?

And those look different (they have the green text bubble as the icon). Can anyone clue me in as to what that 2nd notification is below the blue Handcent icon? And can I get rid of it? I'd like to keep the text messages private is why I ask - I have Handcent and the stock Messages under App Protector. And I have Handcent's option checked to not show messages in the bar, just the notification.

When I turn the phone on, tap the messaging button, and then tap on a text message conversation that I want to see and reply to, there is a 6-8 second delay in for it to open. View 5 Replies View RelatedEver since the upgrade to Jellybean 4.3 (I've got a Samsung Galaxy S3), my messaging app doesn't auto-open to the last sender when I swipe it from the lock screen. Instead, it goes to the previous sender, which can be annoying if you're not paying attention and you reply to that sender instead of the one with the new message.
How do I change that back to the way it was?
