Android :: Handcent Messaging Delayed?
Aug 12, 2010
I use Handcent for my messaging. For the last two days I have been experiencing some slow messaging. By this I mean that when I send a message or receive a message, there is a delay before the message being sent or received pops up on my screen. I don't know why that is. Sometimes it is delayed for 15 seconds before showing on the screen. I have not done anything to cause this change. Otherwise the handcent has been working perfectly.

Since updating to 2.1, I've noticed that when I get a text message, the Handcent pop-up appears, and then maybe 5-10 seconds later, I get the notification. This is really annoying mainly because sometimes I've already read the message and replied or closed it, but now I have an annoying notification stuck there. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions on dealing with it (other than just dealing with it )?

Hello everyone. I recently got the MyTouch 3G so I'm a new Android user and I'm very happy to be one. Anywho, I was wondering about the Handcent application. My friend suggested it to me and I like its setup over the default Messaging app, so I wanted to delete it. But would deleting the default Messaging app also delete all the texts in general? Or would they carry over to the Handcent app and stay there even after deleting the Messaging app. I don't want to lose some of the texts that I already had.

I love Handcent. Not so much Messaging App. I have the notifications disabled in Messaging App, but the damn thing is still doing it! I want Handcent notifications as they will also go away once you tap them to read the message, but the one from Messaging is remaining even after I click it to see the message.

I downloaded Handcent the other night and started using it for messaging. I feel like I am completely missing something because I don't see an option to turn the stock messaging system off or to make Handcent my primary messaging service. As a result, every time I get a text I get two notifications and the message pops up in both applications.

I used Handcent for a while and I really liked it, however you can't send MMS using it for whatever reason which is a big deal breaker for me.I uninstalled it and went back to the original messaging application, but now it just closes randomly.Like I'll open it and it will close instantly. Then I open it again and it works fine.Other times it will open fine, but then I'll try to open up an conversation and it closes automatically, then when I open it again everything works fine.It is very annoying. It just closes out to the home screen. I've deleted all my existing messages and I've tried resetting my phone, nothing seems to help.

Curious about people's thoughts about these different messaging options. Removing / barring the pre-update issues with the native messaging app on the phone, which one of these do you prefer? I am currently using the native app, seems fine to me, I like that I can link contacts to FB etc. Not necessarily looking for something that plagiarize's the iPhone messenger (cartoon bubbles), but I am always open to something new if it is better than the app preloaded on the phone. If you don't use the native app, is there a widget for Handcent or Chomp (like the native) to make viewing and responding easy?

I'm sure I'm missing something stupid. I've turned off notifications in the stock Messaging app (I'm pretty sure). And those look different (they have the green text bubble as the icon). Can anyone clue me in as to what that 2nd notification is below the blue Handcent icon? And can I get rid of it? I'd like to keep the text messages private is why I ask - I have Handcent and the stock Messages under App Protector. And I have Handcent's option checked to not show messages in the bar, just the notification.

is there any way to change the "Messaging" button to launch Handcent SMS instead of the Defualt app? I love handcent and wanna use this button to launch that instead of the app I won't be using.

I saw a thread for an app that allows you to send delayed text messages, deliver in x number of hours, but can't recall the name. I've tried searching but haven't had any luck.

It's common knowledge among people who are afflicted with stuttering that it helps if you're hearing yourself with a little delay while your speak. This is called Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF) and makes it easier to speak in a slow and deliberate manner. There are even hardware devices sold for this purpose: http://www.casafuturatech.com/ I've tried one of these devices for a few weeks now. It helps, but it's just one more thing to remember in the morning, one more thing to carry around, and it's pretty large. It's also inconvenient when speaking on the phone. I'd love to develop an Android app for DAF, but I'm not sure if it's possible. A DAF has sound input and output, just like a phone. But instead of hearing another person, the sound input is sent to the output, with an amount of delay (somewhere between 0-200 ms). Is that effect possible to achieve with Android? How would you create the delay? Also, would it be possible to create this effect also when using the phone, so that I hear the other person AND myself with delay?

According to a statement by Adobe, they are not delaying the release of Flash for Android, Blackberry, and webOS. I am guessing that means public beta will come out in May, and the release will be a nice 4th of July present. The app I am working on is having this strange behavior - It works correctly for a while, but after some series of actions (that I'm not sure how to replicate) it does this - Does anybody recognize this scenario? Any ideas what might be wrong?

My Problem is that I need to send messages with a delay of 1 second. The handler then initiates some action, you're getting the picture. There are nevertheless some conditions in which the already sent message should be deleted ( before the second elapsed ) to prevent the handler from doing anything. I couldn't figure out how to do this ( or if it's even possible ), so If anyone of you has a clue, please let me know.

My clock always gets delayed. I always have to connect to the network or wifi to get a time update, it gets delayed 2 or 3 times a day. some times even after a time update it pushes back the time for 5 minutes more or less. I'm thinking if I don't update 2 or more time a day, in a week my clock would be delayed by an hour or so.

Whats the scoop behind which one is really better? The stock messaging app or aftermarket apps (handcent and chomp). I use Handcent, and lately I have been finding it to be quite laggy and slow, even with cache cleared and all threads deleted. Is the only difference between stock and aftermarket, the fact that you can customize? I would much rather have a plain looking stock app that performs well, then a customizable aftermarket app that is slow. I am just looking for some opinions.

when the stock Messaging app wasn't cutting it, I installed Handcent. But it started flaking out on me, so I dumped it and went to the more-reliable chompSMS.I liked it a lot.But to be completely honest, I missed some of the features of Handcent. But reliability is Job 1, so I kept chompSMS for a few weeks. Then I heard that Handcent received a major update a few days ago, so I replaced chompSMS with Handcent. So far so good. I got all the features back, and I haven't had one single issue in days of texting. So if you're like me and you left Handcent for chompSMS, you may want to give the new version a spin.

Just got my htc hero a few days ago, really like it so far (although looking forward to firmware update to sort out the slight bit of lag Anyway I was wondering, do ringtones start really delayed for anyone else? When I get a phonecall the trackball lights up but the ringtone doesn't start for about 10 seconds? I'm finding it a bit annoying! Am I missing a really obvious setting or something?

I know how to use google and search, but I still like personal feedback incase I missed something.Rooted with Unrevoked. Overclock Widget battery life tweak and the google talk/flickr/other battery tweaks. I'm going on 16 hours today with normal usage and the tweaks - Anyhow, yesterday and prior to that gmail and gvoice push was instant, but today and last night it's been slow and often never even comes unless I go to the app and update it manually. I do have ATK installed, but turned the auto kill to off and only use it when the bloat-sprint apps get running. So don't flame about that. Also, I changed the notification sound on each account and now I hear the set sound (quagmire app) and the android default after - when a push actually comes through.I can't find any settings that I unchecked that would make it not update as fast or at all (been back though all of them), but perhaps something else is screwy - I do have gmail and gvoice tabs open on 1 to 2 computers all day, if that would do it.And I guess I can't use data (unless it's wifi or 4G) while I'm in a phone call? Which really sucks because I like to do data related stuff while I'm talking to family and people who just blaber on and on. Miss that about my iPhone but other than that, I'm sold on android - 9 people I know got the evo already.

For the last couple of months there has been a 5-10 minute delay when I'm receiving a text. It tends to happen when the phone has been asleep for a while and the message would come in at 9:50 but it would be time stamped for 9:44. Any fix to this?!!! I had no such problems with my BB on the same network and location

If you're to believe Hands on Sprint Samsung Moment Android phone - Android and Me, we won't be getting Donut anytime soon. Skipping to 6:10 - "they" told him about Donut in 2010 for "Moment", I guess Galaxy won't be getting it prior to Moment, if ever. We really need Samsung to tell us officially about Donut because if the delay is true, it is a major blow to early adopters of their Android phones.

I just posted a new status on facebook, and stayed on there for 10 minutes. My phone is set up to receive the comment updates. On facebook someone left me a comment 2 minutes after i put it there and my phone got it 7 minutes later. Come to think about it, I barely get any text from facebook. Does the hero have some sorta delay? or could it just be sprint? I have wifi and mobile on so idk how this would work at all?

Just got a Droid X... coming from 3 years of horrible T-Mobile, so I'm excited to be on verizon finally! One problem though, and big because I text a lot - I notice my text messages are being delayed. They often come maybe 5 minutes later in groups of 3 or however many on in queue. It looks as if my phone is only checking periodically... how can I troubleshoot this? Perhaps it's a signal issue but I can still send texts and also receive calls.

Orange haven't had any since 26th August and won't have any until the 8th!?! What the hell is that all about lol my mate is going mad. He's called 'em up to upgrade, got a mint deal but now has to wait to receive a text to tell him that they are in stock (Like that is ever going to arrive He's been told that they receive them on an add hoc basis, sometimes 10, sometimes 700. Sounds a bit slack if you ask me. Does anyone think that there is a connection between a delayed Froyo release and low stock? Don't forget that they were blaming stock shortages on the success of the Galaxy S because it slowed down the production of the HTC as Samsung apparently manufacture the screens for both. wish I could treat my customers like this
