Motorola Droid X :: Whats A Good Keyboard Improvement App?
Sep 21, 2010
for the Droid X? Although I'm better on the larger screen I still mistype some and was wondering if there is good app that improves proximity and sensitivity issues. Preferably a free one but I'd listen if there was a good paid one.

First of all chaps a big hello to the forum. I have been following the Droid/Milestone since it was but a twinkle in it's Motomothers eye, and for the most part was absolutely more than impressed with it's specs. Lots and lots of pros. very few cons other than the camera and the keyboard. The keyboard, ahh yes, often such a subjective topic. I see it mentioned in threads here and there, a couple of opinions but nothing hugely specific. So I thought I would make a thread DEDICATED to opinions and discussion about the thing and try and figure out once and for all, short of playing with it (hasn't come to my country yet), if it is any use for one such as me.*So, if you can, please answer the following:
*Do you like the hardware keyboard?
*Do you find tactile response and accuracy sufficient?
*Do you find it comfortable with your size hands?
*Do you use it more than the software QWERTY?
*Likes and dislikes about it?
*What other device would you compare it to positively and negatively?
Hopefully we can get enough people answering to build up an idea of common opinion on the thing. I'm looking forward to the Milestone hitting here with it's multi-touch. Hopefully it won't take too long before Sense UI is ported over and then it really will be the ultimate device.

Maybe I'm delusional from the 101 degree weather here in Charlotte, or maybe I actually did see a decrease in the amount of lag in the "Slide to Unlock" home screen.I disabled the Screen Lock and enabled the Security Lock under "Location & Security Settings" under "Settings". After deciding I wasn't as happy with this feature as I thought I might be, I went back to the original settings and it appears that the lag is not as evident in the "Screen Lock" now.

I tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.

So what's the point of blacklisting numbers with handcent if you can still freely read them in the stock messaging?? Like if I didn't notice it first... holy crap... so is there anyway to fix this? Cause not everyone is dumb and won't think about looking under the app called messaging.

I received the latest update a couple of days ago. I am like many on the forum that was having issues and growing very tired of this phone.
Issues I was having:
1- Blank display during a call. I have been having the issue of the phone display going blank during a call. The way it's designed to work is that when you place the phone next to your ear the display turns off to 1- save battery and 2- reduce heat. Mine was staying off which made it impossible to traverse a voice response system.
2- Lag during dialing.
3- Time without a signal. ** Retracted - This issue still exists. After rebooting multiple times the issue is back.
Fix - Reset to factory defaults. So far so good. Best the phone has been since updating from 1.5.
Never rooted- Stock versions
fw - 2.1
baseband - 2.42.01.04.27
kernel - 2.6.29-8a03cb9a, htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
build- 2.37.605.4 CL 185970 release-keys
software- 2.37.605.4
browser- WebKit 3.1
PRI - 2.11_002

Dont get me wrong, the QWERTY keyboard is sick, and I love it. But after typing on the keyboard for while, I wanted to switch it up, so I tried the on screen key pad. And to my surprise, the on screen keyboard appears to be much quicker than using the QWERTY!

The stock Android keyboard is pretty inaccurate for me.If it wasn't for word prediction and correction it would be a real nightmare to use. Samsung keyboard is okay but the space bar is way too small, I end up typing.words.like.this.I'm really diggin' SWYPE.It seems real fast and pretty accurate. Was just wondering if there was a better alternative to the stock Android keyboard that comes in the form of a downloadable app or such?I have seen the Droid X keyboard available somewhere.

I'm curious how good, or bad, the "certified like new" phones are. Long story, but I had one, when my first DX crashed only a few days after having it. The "like new" phone had sporadic issues as well as the having loose plug-ins. I demanded (and got) a NEW replacement, which worked flawlessly until 2.2, and now I am having significant problems again. VZW said they would ship a new replacement phone since my NEW phone was only 3 weeks old when 2.2 hit. I found out yesterday it is yet another "certified like new" ("CLN") phone. I did not have good luck with the prior one. So, if you have experience with a CLN phone, what is your experience? Good? Bad? ANY glitches with it? I'm also wondering if I should wait on the fix that Motorola "says" is coming but who knows when that will be?

im privileged to be one of the few people in my circle of friends that own a droid and i blow them away in many feature comparisons as they all have iphones or blackberries but i noticed through the apple app store there were many cool apps where you can just shake the phone for certain features like wake-ups notifications and even being used in popular games just wondering what Android has that has that kinda cool "shake" feature i think it would be sweet.

I have a '99 Saturn SC2 that I modify. I've added an overhead console from a Suburban, and have a large space that I've always known I'd like to use for something cool. Looks like I'll be getting a Droid soon, and am eyeballing the spot for a Droid mount. So, I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive mount that I can modify to fit this space in front of the map lights.
I have a filler plate that fills that hole, which I can modify with the mount to give a cleaner look.
I'm still getting my head around what all I can do with the droid, so it's hard to say what all I plan to use it for in the car. I have not yet upgraded the stereo headunit, so the droid won't be interfacing with it for quite a while (on the plus side that means when I do upgrade the headunit, I can pick whatever's going to work out best). Might be nice to find a dock that activates the car mode or whatnot, but I'm not looking to spend big bucks on something that I'm going to likely have to chop up to make it fit.
Also, as this will be my phone and a business tool, the Droid needs to be easily removable.

Does anybody know any good wired headset with mic? I had the Motorola EH25 Stereo Earset And i liked it before it broke in 2 months. And i want to get an new one. But i want something that will last me longer then that. Even though i didn't lose any money on those because i bought it from overstock with warranty and they ended gaving me the full refund with the price of product and the warranty price back . I am not big fan of blue tooth headsets because first you have to turn on the bluetooth on your phone and then pair it and also then u have to charge your bluetooth end of the day. In the end its too much of an hassle. Besides the quality of the sound through wired headsets are much better then the bluetooth from what i have experienced. Any advice for good wired headsets(w mic). I will be using it for mostly phone calls and not that much music.
