First post here. First Android phone as well. Picked up the X yesterday and am enjoying it. One quick question though, can I not turn the phone to the right (bottom keys to the left) to change the orientation? Things only turn when I turn the phone left or straight up, not right or upside down.

So I know this has been a recurring problem, the quick keys at the bottom of the screen being purple.But no one has ever figured out what to do about it?Is there a way to cover them up or something so they aren't visable at all?It may be my OCD acting up, but i feel disgusted at the prospect of having to look at a phone whose 4 buttons are different colors for the next two years.
View 16 Replies View RelatedSo despite my gut feeling I took off the film behind the screen as the other thread indicated.Now my phone slides smoother but when it is closed and using it in portrait view, the bottom and top left of the phone makes a tapping noise everytime I press there. It's really annoying specially when I'm typing something or going back and I keep hearing tap tap silent silent silent tap tap tap.As I took a closer look, it seems like the legs on the left side on the back of the screen don't quite reach the keyboard base, therefore creating a gap and tapping the keyboard base whenever i press there.Has this happened to yours too? If so, do you have the film in the back or have you taken it off?
View 2 Replies View RelatedA backlight used to turn on for the bottom hard press keys on my dx but ever since I downloaded and installed the live wallpaper panoplied, they don't turn on anymore. I don't know how or even why a live wallpaper would turn off backlight settings for the keys but its becoming a major inconvenience. I checked the settings but couldn't find where to tweak backlight settings. I also rebooted the phone and did a soft reset but that didn't work. Can anyone out there help a brother out?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter successfully rooting my phone, after my reboot i noticed that the bottom row of touch sensitive keys and the physical keyboard do not light up when touch or slid open. to fix this i have to go to the brightness setting and uncheck and check automatic brightness again?

I found a video on youtube where u can have the dpad in the bottom left corner when your holding your evo horizontal. Can I move the dpad from the top left to the bottom left? if so how?

Is there a way to disable the bottom keys (Menu, Home, Back, Search, etc etc) from vibrating when touch? Even when I dial a number the keys are vibrating (haptic feedback) I've read the manual. Just havent found a way to stop it

View 2 Replies View RelatedI get a text, pull my phone out of the belt holster.....and read it in normal orientation. With the phone unlocked, I read the text(s) and decide to respond. About 75% of the time, it either takes 5-10 seconds to change orientation when I go to horizontal mode......or it won't even switch at all. It gets so frustrating I feel like throwing the phone.
Fwiw, a quick slide to expose the hardware keyboard will quickly change to horizontal orientation, but sliding it closed brings it back to default orientation, and doesn't seem to affect the speed of orienting back to horizontal.
I'm sure this has been asked and answered - but the PHONE and CONTACT buttons at the bottom.can you change them to other uses? I never click CONTACTS so it's completely wasted space.

On my phone, it will only change when I pull out the physical keyboard, which is not really what I'm looking to do most of the time.It changes just fine in all other applications, but the home screen doesn't. View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there any app/hack/widget to keep the backlights on the bottom buttons on just as long as the screen is backlit? So annoying how quickly they go off. Equally as annoying is how quickly the screen goes to sleep after you get a text. It literally stays on for 2 seconds, so I have to press the power button then slide/unlock to get to my text. Needs to be an option to keep it on for longer (10 seconds).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have created an activity for my game which handles all orientation changes by itself and has a fixed "portrait" layout. Actually it uses the accelerometer and is rendered using 2D canvas methods. If the level has been completed I show up a highscore dialog in which the user can enter his name. The dialog is floating above the underlying level screen which gets blurred out nicely. This generally works.
Problem is that the dialog does not get rotated if the orientation of the phone changes. So even if the keyboard is exposed the dialog is shown in portrait mode instead of landscape. I have tried to use an activity with dialog theme instead but the behavior didn't change. After several tries it seems that I have found the reason for this: Once there's an activity with fixed orientation in the activity stack then all subsequent activities keep this orientation, too. They will not react on orientation changes anymore (e.g. if the keyboard gets exposed).
After upgrading to 1.5 SDK the described behavior changed a little bit. Now at subactivities indead react on orientation changes like expected. However, the need to have an opaque background! That means that neither dialogs nor activities with dialog theme will work. Those will stick with the orientation of the underlaying activity. So my workaround is to first start a sub-activity with an opaque black background. This activity then shows my highscore dialog on top. It looks quite okay but I wonder if there's a better solution? Is it possible to show a dialog above a fixed portrait or landscape activity which automatically adapts to orientation changes?

Before I make the decision to go forth, I have done some research and found out there are some complaints regarding the limits of the memory allocated by the Dalvik VM, which seem to be limiting to applications that require manipulation and processing of images. Which limits should i have in mind if i would have to process for example 3 photos taken with the camera, in my process, applying filters, transforms and other types of mathematical operations?I would like to know if it is possible to change the default value of
memory allocated by the Dalvik VM for each application (this default is of 16 MB), in any way, using the Android 1.6 OS. Has anybody looked into this that can help me out please? I have also read in the Android 2.1 compatibility definition document

From the home screen, if I press 'phone' and then the keypad icon in the bottom left some of the numbers have a chevron on either side of them. I thought that possibly it indicated that the person had more than one number but that is not the case.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know how the hell this happened. There was absolutely no chance that this could have happened, but it did. The scratch is on the screen towards the bottom left and is deep enough that if you scratch your nail over it, you hear the concavity.
I don't believe this. I'm not able to call customer service at the moment, but I think I can get them to replace the phone. Honestly, I was so careful with it! I don't know what happened! I needed to vent. Scratches can still happen everyone.
Purchased an inexpensive Android tablet (GDIPPO M7) recently. Worked pretty well, and am happy. Except today, when I turned it on and the word "DEMO" in bright red appeared in the corner. Have explored every conceivable setting to turn it off, and also did a factory reset, all to no avail.

The device trackball/dpad will still change with orientation (right becomes up on landscape, etc..), right?

View 9 Replies View RelatedBattery Left was the first thing I installed on my phone when I got it. My battery life has been terrible so I've been trying to track down the problem. I woke up today, unplugged my phone and didn't touch it for an hour. Battery Left says I have 70 percent left but the battery meter in the status bar showed full. I uninstalled battery left and installed Battstatt and it shows 90 percent (2 hours later). Anyone else have problems with battery left? I hope this fixes my battery problem.

Its a picture of a simcard with a small cog wheel in the bottom left of it.
I cant get rid of it and cant find anywhere a list of notification icons and what they mean?
I cant clear it, i can select the icon in the dropdown notification listing but it does nothing.
Anyone got an idea or a list of default notification icons and their explanations????
This is a HTC Magic with 1.5 on it.
