Android :: Pass ArrayList Parameters Between Two Activities

Apr 19, 2010

Today I met a problem, I need to pass a ArrayList<MyClass> from an activity to another. I dont know what the Intent exactly do when I use putExtra to pass in an ArrayList<MyClass> object. I guess MyClass need to implement Parcelable interface, so I just did it. But still, it does not work. Maybe I need to create a Bundle and then use Bundle's putParcelableArrayList method to put my ArrayList<MyClass> object in, and then pass this bundle as parameter of putExtra to the intent. So crazy! I am lazy, I just want to pass an ArrayList<MyClass> object simply, is there a simple way??

Android :: Pass Parameters To The Marketplace Installer For An App?

Feb 10, 2010

When providing a user on a mobile, a link to an android application via a web page, it is possible for params from the url to be passed to the app being installed.

I'm guessing the answer is no - but it doesn't help to ask.

The reasoning being that it would be handy for some situations to have a generic app that pulls config information from the referrer.

Android :: How To Pass Parameters To AsyncTask's OnPreExecute()

Jun 19, 2010

I use an AsyncTask for loading operations that I implemented as an inner class. In onPreExecute() I show a loading dialog which I then hide again in onPostExecute(). But for some of the loading operations I know in advance that they will finish very quickly so I don't want to display the loading dialog. I wanted to indicate this by a boolean parameter that I could pass to onPreExecute() but apparently for some reason onPreExecute() doesn't take any parameters.

The obvious workaround would probably be to create a member field in my AsyncTask or in the outer class which I would have to set before every loading operation but that does not seem very elegant.

Android :: Can Pass Different Types Of Parameters To An AsyncTask

Oct 13, 2010

I want to implement a generic, thread save class which takes the RessourceId of an ImageView and the Url (http) where the desired image file is stored. It'll download the image and fills the src of the ImageView in the UiThread.

I thought AsyncTask would be the best thing for me. However I noticed that I only can pass one type of parameters to the doInBackground() Method. Like an Array of Urls. Is that true? What would u suggest me?

Motorola Droid :: Phone Tapping On Bottom And Top Left?

Nov 19, 2009

So despite my gut feeling I took off the film behind the screen as the other thread indicated.Now my phone slides smoother but when it is closed and using it in portrait view, the bottom and top left of the phone makes a tapping noise everytime I press there. It's really annoying specially when I'm typing something or going back and I keep hearing tap tap silent silent silent tap tap tap.As I took a closer look, it seems like the legs on the left side on the back of the screen don't quite reach the keyboard base, therefore creating a gap and tapping the keyboard base whenever i press there.Has this happened to yours too? If so, do you have the film in the back or have you taken it off?

HTC Incredible :: Deep Scratch On Bottom Left Of Screen

Apr 30, 2010

I don't know how the hell this happened. There was absolutely no chance that this could have happened, but it did. The scratch is on the screen towards the bottom left and is deep enough that if you scratch your nail over it, you hear the concavity.

I don't believe this. I'm not able to call customer service at the moment, but I think I can get them to replace the phone. Honestly, I was so careful with it! I don't know what happened! I needed to vent. Scratches can still happen everyone.

Android : Apple Store Bars Loses Signal When Cover Bottom Left Corner Of Phone

Aug 8, 2010

It was earlier this evening in fact. I went with my friends to check out the iphone 4 for the first time. So i decided to try and see the reception problem for myself. I took out my nexus one and did a side by side comparison. However to my surprise the iphone 4 was already at 2 bars the moment i picked it up, no idea why as my nexus one (Which was on the SAME carrier btw) had more bars on it at the same time. I carried on with the test anyway. You guys can guess the result.

The bars didn't drop completely as the coverage in Singapore is much better. But that doesn't mean it had better reception than my nexus one.

But the interesting thing was the lady beside me noticed us and asked "what are you trying to prove?". So while her daughter plays with the ipad, I kindly explained to her the whole issue with the iphone 4's revolutionary antenna having a ******ed flaw by which it loses signal when you cover the bottom left corner of the phone, unlike my phone which did not suffer as much as a drop. She then proceeded to saying "But they fixed the problem if you use the bumpers right?". Thats when i explained that you should not rely on a silly bumper case to improve reception when the actual problem lies with the antenna's design itself. But again she said "but the problem is fixed with the case right?". With one of the store sales person watching us the entire time, i still carried on and said "no it doesn't solve the problem, it only prevents it from happening". So we continued playing with the phone and she asked "you all are not fans of apple are you?". Trying not to be so direct, i just said "I actually used to have an iphone, but i didn't like it so i got this instead *shows nexus one*".

Ive never done this kind of thing before, so it was kinda thrilling. Especially when you know the staff is looking at you pseudo-promoting a rival phone. After looking at the iphone 4, i really think it does look beautiful, but it will still be crippled by the limitations of the OS regardless of how you jailbreak it. When i left the store i kinda hoped i shed some light into that lady's decision on whether or not to buy an iphone 4 or any other phone (Android or non-android).

Android :: Launching Google Maps With More Parameters

Aug 20, 2010

I have read a lot of stuff about launching Google Maps in Android. That's pretty easy:
Uri uri = Uri.parse("geo:38.899533,-77.036476");
Intent it = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, uri);
startActivity(it);

The problem is that the map is shown at a high zoom level and there is no marker on the map. So, if the user move a little bit or something happen, the point is lost. Is that possible to add a marker like this:

http://img.skitch.com/20100820-da3n4r7h5xbsu6bsx4p4ujjghc.jpg
or like this:
http://img.skitch.com/20100820-qg7k2m5wtwm3j5phphrgc8tb53.jpg

So I can be sure that even if the user move the map, he will be able to find this place again.
